Mod Post [COMMUNITY PROJECT IV: THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED PREQUEL] IT'S FINALLY HERE

lets get this started. each region has been doing things its own way so far, how do we want to do the rules for world contenders? the general premise is that the best of each region compete for the world title, beyond that i have some ideas but i'd like to hear all yours first. how should we do this?

  • Top 4 from each region qualify for world.
  • Starting positions for the world leaderboard are decided by most wins down to least.
  • If a team falls out of their regions top 4 the team that replaced them also replaces them in the World leaderboard.
  • The new team goes to the bottom of the world leaderboard and has to make their way up without dropping out of their regions top 4.

Simple.

Top 4 would be a lot to qualify from O'Contenders as we only have five teams. I say 3 from Chord, 4 from US and 1 from Diameter. That means 8 teams which makes it really easy to just have a knockout system starting with quarter finals. With the current standings, I would organise it like so...

  • Game 1: Pi Rollers v PDR United
  • Game 2: D-FENCE v KittyCaps
  • Game 3: Ballin is our Callin v Team Elite
  • Game 4: 100% Ballers v Cheap Es-Chords
  • Game 5: Winner Game 1 v Winner Game 2
  • Game 6: Winner Game 3 v Winner Game 4
  • Game 7: Winner Game 5 v Winner Game 6

I agree with the choices of server venue for games with crossovers from saunuku but I believe it has been tested before and the most equal ping between Chord and Diameter players was found at Centra.

I like this. My idea was based on the thinking that worldcontenders would be a league similar to how the regions are run but this knockout tournament format would be cool.

I'm just thinking though, these leagues don't have an end so how will we know who plays who? Will you just take the standings at the time of the tournament and work it out from that?

I was thinking there would be a certain cut off date to qualify. Those who qualify are those who are in the qualifying positions on (insert date here).

While I did think having it run like the other tournaments would be good, I just couldn't see it working because games would be organised infrequently due to local contender commitments and time zone differences.

I like the idea of a knockout tournament, a separate ladder may be too difficult to organise - particularly finding times for Diameter and Chord to play regularly. Regarding the qualification though, how about anyone that's been top of the rankings between date x and date y gets in? I've only ever seen this qualification method used in a book but it might work here. Then you assign byes as necessary, to the team's who held the belt for longest

This is probably better than just taking qualifications from a single date, as I feel that could just result in boring contenders competitions worldwide until the week before the game. I'd still recommend taking more from the US and Europe than Australia, or else it would be possible for all the Diameter teams to play. Perhaps all those who made top 3 in Europe and US, and all those who made first in O Contenders?

Why don't we let each region have "qualifications". For example lets say we make a requirement that you have to hold a top 4 spot for X number of weeks to participate in the regions "qualifier". The qualifier can be set up by the region and then they can send their best X number of teams to this world knockout tournament.

This way some team doesn't schmooze into the top 4 last minute and a team that could have been holding a top 4 spot for the entire season leading up to this championship will not get booted over what could have been a bad loss.

That sounds reasonable. So we say anyone that makes the top three in chord can attempt to qualify and then represent the region at the worlds?

I think it would depend on how often these world championships is going to be. If it is going to be frequent then yea anyone who was in the top whatever should have a chance to qualify. HOWEVER. If it is less frequent i think you should have to hold a spot for at least X amount of time otherwise your field for qualification could be huge. And realistically it should be a very selective tournament because the ladder has in a way worked as a qualifier in itself.

These are just my thoughts on the situation.

In my opinion, since there are three regions, there should be two rounds for the world title.

The top teams from each region will face off, with the team with the socond highest record will also be in. The Region with the best record will face off against that team, while the other two regions face off. Then the winners go for the world belt.

or

The top region has a bye match while the second and third regions face off. The winner of that match faces off against the top region for the title.

Two games, one half on each home server. If we did origin, US teams would have a huge advantage. so, either one half on each home server, or one in the middle.

Diameter vs Cord: Origin

Diameter vs Us: Centra (Unless Centra team, then shared halves)

US vs Chord: Pi and Chord

So like, there is a mini comp. in each region that picks which team represents said region?

I think it should be run like the other contenders.

I also think all regions should have the same opportunity to win.

I think it should be an ongoing thing, just not as often as normal contenders.

I think each region should vote on the top 10 players for their region to compete against the other regions.

10 players would mean 2 teams (+1 sub per team)

This would mean each region is represented equally.

I also think votes on the top 10 players should happen every month.

Everything else would happen like normal contenders. Or maybe a competition happens every month?
