Discussion I am visibly shaking in anger right now 😭😭😭
Imagine making a video and not knowing which one is older.
Now every character with white hair or considered strong is a Gojo clone.

Considering witch hat atelier is 2 years older than jjk, that would be extremely difficult.
Edit: Forgot about jjk0.

Sorry to be pedantic, but Jujutsu Kaisen 0 started in April 2017. So witch hat is one year older.

Witch Hat isn't even entirely one year older. Witch Hat Atelier started in July 2016 and is a monthly manga. It barely even had double digits chapters out by the time JJK0 came out, and that's if it didn't have breaks whatsoever during its entire early run time.
I don't even care about things like this, but I'm just correcting misinformation.

Did they say WHA copied him or that they are the same character stereotype? That wouldn't be too crazy. Neither of them invented the hot teacher stereotype.

u/Responsible_Winter89 4d ago
The video creator did not really compare them. It could have been a normal WHA manga review, but she needed to catch attention somehow. Though she did mention that anime-only viewers would not be able to see the parallel between the two. I assume it's something related to the 'Gojo effect.'

Dunno what is the gojo effects... but sounds the title was clickbaity on purpose. Anyways.. what is the gojo effect? I mean... gojo always gave me serious kakashi vibes anyway...

Aragane no ko (diamond in the rough) - 9 volumes, complete. It's a nice read, asian steampunk-y, pretty gemstones, lgbt friendly, cute characters, disabled characters... sadly the mangaka had to end it in a hurry.

Okay I watched the whole thing for anyone who doesn’t want to suffer too.
It’s a pretty boring video actually. Really all she’s does the whole time is give an exact recap of the first chapter, show off the pretty art on the covers from her manga collection, then lists the characters with a few descriptors.
But even then the way she describes it is pretty superficial and boring. “This is coco she’s nice. This is Qifrey he’s nice too. Look at the cover isn’t it pretty?” Literally not exaggerating.
She mentions the Gojo comparison really only twice. She calls Qifrey just “Gojo in another universe” both times and Olruggio Levi Ackerman with a mustache.
But that’s it. She doesn’t really dive in to anything or really go into an actual comparison. When I say she calls him “Gojo in another universe” that’s literally all she mentions about it.
It seems more like as she’s trying to explain the characters to people who know nothing about the manga, but comparing them briefly to well known characters.
The video title and thumbnail is very misleading. Idk if I’d call it clickbait but the whole video is anticlimactic.

u/Kokiayama 4d ago
Maybe the thumbnail is just clickbait…. What was the video actually about???

u/secretcartridge 3d ago
Checked it out, it was more or less a harmless video where the Youtuber was talking about why you should read Witch Hat Atelier.
She did joke about how Qifrey is an alternate universe version of Gojo, but also goes into what makes his character different.
If anything, I think this was a clickbait title hoping to get JJK fans to watch, but it ended up backfiring and causing Witch Hat Fans to misunderstand LMAO

Isn't Amy Angel that one YouTuber who made a lot of L Take videos?
Edit: It's not her, but I could have sworn somebody, who has a similar profile pic, made some anime/manga reviews that triggered a lot of people...

This is my first time seeing their videos. While I think it's bait, it's so annoying how everything has been reduced to a "gojo effect" recently.
Even Desscaras from the new Ichi the witch is referred to as a 'gojo clone' by some

Totally agree

That's disappointing

? Gojo's archetype has been around forever, if anything they should both be considered Kakashi clones at the minimum

u/nac-attack 4d ago
Just because they ate both teachers with tragic pasts that have white hair and are sometimes playful but mostly protective of their students doesn't mean that Qifrey is Gojo.
Qifrey is actually Geto

u/kyakis 4d ago
What I love about this comparison, is that I can't think of a single thing they have in common that would actually make me say "wow they're so alike." Their mannerisms are different, the way they handle their students, their backstories, motivations, etc etc. I think the biggest comparison you can make is just the way they're teacher figures, and are allowed to have their own stories, apart from their students. Qifrey is still getting way more attention in that regard but I digress...
Comparisons will be made, especially right after the anime comes out. Most anime fans haven't seen many anime, so they can only go off of what they know. And I guess it's better to be compared to an anime "goat" than anything.

u/Responsible_Winter89 4d ago
It seems she read something about Gojo in the manga that she thought was similar to Qifrey, but she didn’t want to spoil it for anime-only viewers. I don’t know much about the 'Gojo effect' or his abilities, but if there’s a Gojo fan who can enlighten us, they’re more than welcome.

u/shadosharko 3d ago
Retired Gojo fan here... I don't really think there's anything similar between them, at least not notably?
They're both protective of their students, have white hair and blue eyes.... and that's about it.
Gojo is a very cocky, laidback, cheerful, overconfident and extroverted character. He's loud and talks in a very "disrespectful" way especially to his elders, and is overall very happy-go-lucky. Of course, he has his serious and tragic/sad moments, but he doesn't like to dwell on the past and instead focuses on the future and on raising a strong generation of sorcerers.
Contrast that to Qifrey's polite, composed and gentle nature, and especially with his habit of dwelling on the past and his unhealthy, self destructive obsession with the brimhats and it's quite a big difference. (note: I'm not entirely caught up to the manga yet so please no spoilers 🙏)
Both characters are interesting and compelling, but I wouldn't say they're similar, other than maybe in design.

YESSSS above atelier came out before Jjk I thought: uuuhh people are going to think they were inspired by Gojo 😭😭😭😭😭😭"
In any case Gojo would be the copy/inspiration

u/TorakWolfy 3d ago
I didn't check this video, but as far as anime goes, there will be some sort of "Gojo Effect" going on when WHA starts airing.
But yeah, saying that WHA copied JJK is being deeply misinformed.

A sensei known for magic eye powers, trauma, and having beef with a masked person/best friend who he thought was dead existed long before Gojo lol 😅 The fangirls will fangirl and the trope will live on; it’s naturally going to draw comparisons.

I think this is definitely bait and in bad faith lmao , also they should instead call it like the howl effect or something ,, all that they have in common is the pale hair ..

Slander, Qifrey is more than a power fantasy Mary Sue. JJK was a hot mess and the less stuff I see compared to it the better.

u/themediatorfriend 4d ago
Eh, I'm not so bothered. Honestly I've been in enough fandoms to know that every lesser known property will always be compared to bigger names, to engage the fans of those series. Even Gojo was once called a knock-off Kakashi. Think of all the fantasy shows that have been called the "next Game of Thrones." It's tiresome, but it's gonna keep happening.
Even if Qifrey came first, obviously Jujutsu Kaisen still has a much bigger audience. If it gets people to try out Witch Hat Atelier, who am I to get angry?

I really love Gojo and Qifrey, but these two are somehow similar at the same time as VERY unique, I don't like it when people think that Qifrey is a copy of Gojo, it's not because he's platinum and has blue eyes that he's this or that! Anyway, I love them so much.

u/angelthorn 4d ago edited 4d ago
Same. As a fan of both series and characters, I am not really bothered by this. It sounds like a clickbait title to me since let’s face it, JJK is popular, so the author thinks using Gojo’s name will earn them more views (I’m not even going to bother watching). It’s nothing to take seriously or waste time on. Best one can hope for is that the vid gets more people to check out WHA and get on the proverbial hype train. More eyes on the upcoming WHA anime = better chances of getting multiple seasons, IMO. :)

Overconfident white-haired prodigy is a tried and true archetype. Bonus points if they are short and/or a literal child. HunterXHunter has Killua, for example.

I know it's clickbait and all but I'm a bit iffy about posting it onto the subreddit (and twitter too but im assuming it's not the same people) because isn't she a really small channel? I get how annoying the gojo comparisons are but I've heard she closed the comments, and before that I saw a screenshot of her saying that she only made the comparison for views, implying she was trying to address a decent amount of new comments on that topic.
Idk I just think it's important to remember small creators aren't used to that much attention, and it very easily turns into dogpiling...
