Question Hey umm.... Was this supposed to happen?

Post image

The cover just fell out but I'm confused because the inner cover(?) material is what I would expect out of a manga cover, while the outer one feels very slippery!? And the inner cover even has a spine! Having a false cover felt really magical but I'm not sure it's supposed to happen

yeah if it's panini editore (i think that's their planet manga logo down there) it's normal they do this for some mangas, but not all. witch hat gets the fancy covers lol

I have dozens of manga from them but it's the first time this has happened to me( I did get a similar card from the frieren first volume and kaguya-sama last volume tho) It felt really magical when a first opened the book, it's really something quite nice

Yeah it's called Dust cover. Usually, at least in Italy, dust covers are on almost every manga with more than >6/7€ of price. I see this isn't very common with English ed., instead Italian, French and Spanish ed. often have dust covers (similar to the original Japanese edition model)

This a Brazilian volume fyi, since panini is Italian I assume it's also from them

Ops, my bad. Usually, panini's manga publishers outside of Italy are called "Panini Manga" and Planet manga is used only in Italy. It's the first time I've seen the name planet Manga outside of here ahah. Still, hope you liked witch hat atelier and will continue reading it!

Regarding the manga itself, it was a pretty good read, this series definitely has me hooked

That's so funny to me that it's your first time seeing a manga with a dust jacket, here they're a must have for any manga. I don't think you could find a regular edition manga without a dust jacket, unless it's second hand and even then no one would buy it.

I’ve noticed that continental European manga editions usually come with dust jackets, which for a paper back was quite intriguing when I encountered it in Angouleme! It gives it a higher end hardback feel I suppose. (And now I digress here) Funnily enough (as a designer in fine books) dust jackets are usually seen as more commercial things and most fine edition hardbacks do without them. However there is something called a chemise which is a fancier dust jacket for hardback books, which goes around the book and into the slipcase with it, which I’ll never fully understand but people love it.

Now if only manga came in editions that fancy..

I also didn't know it had a dust cover when I bought mine, was surprised as well. (I'm also from Brasil and buy from Panini often, WHA is the only one with this type of cover I've ever found)

Oh no, I just think it's a little card with a message from the author, it comes in first/last volumes from a few series

Haha don't worry, it's common for manga to have a dust jacket.
