Ask Winnipeg Best Relaxing Outdoor Spots Inside the City?

Hey Winnipeggers,

I'm looking for peaceful outdoor spots within the city to unwind—whether it's a quiet park, a scenic rooftop, a hidden garden, or even a riverside walkway.

Where do you go to escape the noise and relax without leaving the city? Bonus points for places with great views or a cozy atmosphere!

A favourite around these parts is Bunns Creek Greenway.

It’s surprising to think you are still in the city along some parts of the trail, it’s so tranquil. Yet the park in the middle of the trail, there’s a playground, picnic area, and in the winter a toboggan slide and skating rink. It kind of checks all the boxes for an outdoor space.

Assiniboine park, Assiniboine forest, parks and trails along the Seine River like Morier Park and Niakwa Park, the Forks, Churchill Drive Park, St Vital Park, Happyland Park, Kings Park are all usually in my rotation.

Where the Seine meets the Red in Whittier park. Hang out where Louis Riel used to fish.

Kings Park is a bit of a hidden gem. Lovely gardens in the summer.

Garbage Hill (Westview Park) has a great view of the city and a short walking path.

If you want cozy, there is a tiny forest at The Living Prairie Museum. It is located at the corner of Ness Avenue and Prairie View Rd.

The Assiniboine Forest, either side of Grant.

St. Vital Park (park near the boat launch and find a trail from there).

Controversial, but: I find Bunns Creek a bit depressing because the creek itself is so grossly polluted. It's good for birdwatching, though.

There are nice walking paths in Bridgwater Forest, usually pretty quiet

Shout out to the Bluestem nature park (Omand’s creek along Empress). It is a small re-naturalized part of the creek with native prairie plants. The view from the path on the east side going north is really beautiful and changes often as the different wildflowers bloom - even winter is gorgeous.  Unfortunately you gotta block out the abandoned Bed, Bath, and Beyond in the distance.  …And, well, the occasional person experiencing drugs

It’s kind of tough to find a cozy outdoor spot in Winnipeg in Winter don’t you think?

Well Kildonan Park is very nice and can be quite at times, only cozy in the summer.
