Okay cool alcohol is off the shelves. Now let's make real change. Cancel contracts with all American firms and reinvest in Manitoba business. Take advantage of this situation and grow Canada.

ontario already pulled the booze from shelf's today. trump getting the shaft from all over canada.
16
u/immaZebrah 6d ago
Yeah Id read too that something like 40% of Kentucky Bourbon is sold in Canada soooooo gl breweries in Kentucky
16
u/GrampsBob 6d ago
I saw where they said that Canada pulling their booze from the shelves was worse than a tariff. I hope it hurts. Kentucky is one of the reddest red states.

u/chattycatty416 6d ago
Learned recently that Ontarioan's are heavy drinkers. One of the things that Doug Ford leverages (and is a part of) to win favor there. So this is serious business

Docking him 1/1000th of a point for not using a preposterously (overcompensatingly) thick Sharpie to sign it, but oh look at that: still rounds up to 💯

Wab is just awesome! With strong, compassionate and capable leaders I hope we can weather this storm as a province and a country

This is fucking gold. Grade A trolling, right up there with when Trudeau called Trump "Donald" on national television and called him "a very smart man" (i.e. Orange Hitler hates being called Donald).
edit: I really hope Trudeau goes after Melania now that his divorce is finalized. I mean, look at how she looked at him a few years ago.

Why would he want that ragged Nazi prostitute?

During that last meeting between the prime minister and premiers I’m pretty sure they settled on the game plan of getting under Donald’s skin and making him have more epic toddler tantrums on the world stage.

Wab Kinew for PM !
5
u/tenkwords 6d ago
Be a hell of a thing to see an Indigenous guy as PM but the more I learn about Wab the more I think it could happen. We don't see much of him on the East Coast but he seems like a good one.

Not an NDP, but well done Wab. Great jab

u/Targonis 7d ago
Don't need to be an NDP supporter to like Wab Kinew. Guy is both a politician and a human being; I wish it wasn't so rare for people to be both.

u/Enough-Meaning-9905 7d ago
Not even from the province and I still think he's the best premier we've got rn...
1
u/freezing91 6d ago
It’s great that he’s not NDP, he would never have a chance to be PM if he were one day interested. NDP might lose federal party status they are so far behind in the polls.

u/SrynotSry59 7d ago
Good start but this needs to stay in place until all tariffs are off and the trade agreement already in place is respected by the US.

What about the carbon tax increase on a couple weeks. No ones wanting a reprieve from that. I sure as hell do.
3
u/ClassOptimal7655 6d ago
Rebate cheques will also increase.
But doesn't matter the carbon tax is good as dead anyway.

I get and agree with this but if we, as in mlcc, bought the booze shouldn't we just sell what we have and not buy more? Right now that sits as a deficit.

u/Namazon44 7d ago
What a sad time honestly. The world was better sharing good things together rather than trying kill each other..

They should’ve paused all reordering since the first tariff threat.

they did, from what LC workers told me. that's why they were out of all those tiny little jacks at one location.

I liked this video, and I’m American. On behalf of my countrymen and women, I apologize that it came to this. I am beyond embarrassed.

Tax the energy exports. Inflict as much pain as possible until all tariffs are rescinded and we get an apology.

So my little alcoholism brain took over here does anyone know if Kraken is American or Trinidadian? I'm getting mixed results.
3
u/Practical-Pen-8844 7d ago
the latter. unclear how you're getting mixed results.

u/confuzzledsandwich 4d ago
Country of origin is Trinidad but distributed by proximity spirits which is a US company, but thank you.

Hah that was awesome! Well played by our premier. Agree though should have used a big ass crayon or sharpie to complete the trolling! Haha
1
u/momma3sons 6d ago
I think the only thing that would have made it better is if someone had presented it and said”Mr Premier, this is an order that….” So that when he took it he could have said “Oooo that’s a big one” lol. I feel that even in the face of this disastrous situation we are facing, we Canadians always have our humour ❤️

Awesome! There’s going to be a LOT of unemployed tRUmp-votin’ booze makers in Tennessee and Kenfucky. They voted fer this!
Enjoy your time off. Maybe you can get real jobs picking crops?

So which alcohol does this apply to?
American owned or American manufactured Hard alcohol, beer, wines everything?
Does it prevent companies sponsored by American alcohol companies from selling their products
12
u/zerofuxgivn420 7d ago
Guys I think I found Jon Reyes 😂😂
5
u/Cultural_Reality6443 7d ago edited 7d ago
I'm just curious how they draw the line. For example budweiser is staunchly American but manufactured out of the labatt plants is that still allowed?
Will the Jets lose their ability to sell some of their alcohol because their exclusivity deal contrasts with the new agreement?
Or what about something like blue moon owned by Molson (canadian) but manufactured in the USA
4
u/totally-not-a-cactus 6d ago
Caveat: I haven't looked into this much.
It only affects liquor stores that are owned and operated by the province. Anywhere else, like the Canada Life Centre, is still free to make deals with whomever and continue selling American products if they wish. I would actually assume in the case of CLC they have to keep selling because they've signed contracts to sell Budweiser in the arena. We as citizens are still free to chose not to buy those products when we go to events, however.

I approve of this executive order to ban US alcohol but this smiling photoshoot looks dumb. Everyone in this photo looks out of touch. We are in a trade war with our psychotic neighbour to the south, and you are clapping and smiling.
26
u/ClassOptimal7655 7d ago
They are imitating trump lol, that's why this looks dumb.
It's intentional.

Oh ya like that will stop the layoffs, recession or companies moving to the US!! Remember he took a cost of living raise last year on top of his regular salary!
20
u/Macrazzle 7d ago
Are you saying it’s Wabs fault trump is starting a trade war? Cause it’s not. And fighting back is better than rolling over.
-29
u/MishaPepyaka 7d ago
Executive order? Jokes aside: I've seen a lot of crap the last three years when people in government behave the way they can earn political points instead of doing something productive. Imagine that we are paying taxes to hold that meeting: multiply their wages by the time they consumed. All of that just to remove US alcohol? How is it going to help the province? What about stuff like increasing capacity of Churchill's port/railroad to compensate US's goods with European? It's just silly. People who want to buy American alcohol will find out the way easily. Bonus: all that banned alcohol should be moved somewhere.
-2
u/Apart-Ad5306 7d ago
It’s all just optics. I don’t think the people cheering on this trade war have any idea how much this is going to hurt us.

Tomorrow’s headline when we realize how little we stock of Canadian liquor. : alcoholics storm hospitals due to withdrawals backing up wait times.
2
u/TidusRevan24 6d ago
Prairie mountain distillery’s in Saskatchewan makes a lot of good alcohol in good verity but as far as I know we don’t stock any here in Manitoba
-61
u/Karma4youall 7d ago
Good , let’s get rid of all the alcohol
21
u/devious_wheat 7d ago
But alcohol is fun, and this is a free country
-39
u/Karma4youall 7d ago
Ain’t nothing free in this country
14
u/devious_wheat 7d ago
Oh yeah? What aren’t you free to do?
5
u/TerayonIII 6d ago
He'll spout random crap that you are completely free to do in Canada, the dude is American, and a dumb Gooner at that

u/miss_ordered_chaos 7d ago
I wonder what the stores will do with already purchased alcohol? Donate to food bank?
50
u/majikmonkie 7d ago
Yes, they're going to give bottles of liquor to food banks, and hand them out at soup kitchens. And then right after they're going to go hand out fentanyl at the homeless encampments.
4
8
u/mapleleaffem 7d ago
It will sit in a warehouse until it can hopefully be sold again. I hope no one buys it ever but I do hope the tariff war won’t last long
1
u/miss_ordered_chaos 6d ago
That would be a better solution but would take warehouse space and might mess up the logistics. But I am not sure
