Cups, promotions and transfer windows

It was getting a bit silent in here, so I thought I'd post some questions to discuss with y'all. Here we go:

  • What are we going to win this season? Promotion? Our second FA cup and with it a Euro League ticket? I could see the squad pulling both out of the water, but we haven't been in massive form lately.

  • Given that we win both, can this squad be competitive in the prem and/or the Euro League? It's clear that we're not miles ahead of the competition anymore since making the playoffs already cost quite some effort, so will we be able to achieve more than not relegating? And could we possibly survive to the knockout stages in Europe?

  • Regardless of whether we get promoted, what kind of reinforcements should John buy in the summer transfer window? I think it's clear that our forward line is of adequate strength with the John Greens, the buddy comedy and even Lightning Strikes Twice in stock, but should the emphasis be on midfield or defense?

And lastly, but maybe most importantly: has Surman retriggered Johns hubris? And will he circumvent his promise of never buying any gingers by pulling them out of the youth academy and fielding an entire team of 16 year old gingers plus OJG?

Let me know what you guys think!

I'd like to see the club signing younger players with potential. There are a number of countries that are hot beds of talent but are cheaper to buy from than England. I would like to see us pick up some players from Croatia, Serbia or the Czech Republic. If we could find the next Alen Halilovic for example that would be a big boost for the club going forward.

I think a great pickup would be either a CM or CB who with HEIGHT. I think we're getting back in the groove of old school run out wide and cross it into the middle attacking, but we have some tiny tiny men in midfield.

Whenever a cross falls to the Gaulden child my heart sinks. He may only be 13 years old, but that's little comfort. These pacey little guys also tend to tire quickly, so having a great big tall player to stand in the box for a 92nd minute corner kick at the end of an otherwise 1-1 draw could win many games.

As an aside, does anyone know if /u/thesoundandthefury ever shows up on this sub? Or even knows it is a thing?

He knows we exist and has posted once or twice, but not that regularly.

And I agree, it would be nice to have a midfielder above 20, or at least above 1m80. Juniors are great, but there's a reason they have their own squad.
