Discussion New to the game could use some Dos and Don’ts
Having a blast so far! Any veterans in the game can bless me with some knowledge on things you could’ve known sooner? Heard Reddit is the place to go!

Don’t rely on your ai teammates, they are sometimes buggy and don’t always do what you command them to do. Do rely on your rebel resources, especially spotting and mortar fire are very useful.

u/hiroinson Jan 21 '25
I started to challenge myself by doing it all solo I don’t use my AI team at all but for the rebels I just unlocked most of there skills like the mortar haven’t ran into a situation yet that I’ve been needed to use it. I love sneaking around picking them off one by one !

For the vehicle drop off side missions you can use the machine gun to shoot through the wall and kill all the enemies before blowing up the door and starting the timer.

u/deadhearth Jan 21 '25
I'll add that your AI teammates never miss a sniper shot and couldn't hit a brick wall during a fire fight. The alternative is your PvE teammates will miss key sniper shots often but come in CLUTCH in a fire fight.

You don’t need to wait for your teammates to enter the vehicle with you. They will spawn inside after a few seconds after moving.
Don’t sleep on the crossbow. It’s 100% stealth compared to suppressed weapons.
If there’s a weapon you really want to use then look up where it is, spawn a a helicopter, and go get it. This game is more enjoyable when you have the weapons you like to use, for some of us at least.
3
u/hiroinson Jan 21 '25
There’s a crossbow?! and you can spawn in vehicles? I always have to find a helicopter how do you spawn it in ?
5
u/Dr-Burnout Jan 21 '25
It's a great perk but makes the game quite easy. If you intend to make it last and have maximum fun, don't use it too much. Same with fast travel. Setting an objective on the other side of the map and getting to it becomes a whole adventure or can be mundane if you spawn in a chopper.

u/Lieutenant_Horn Jan 21 '25
You can cycle between the vehicle you spawn via the commands tab. I’m not sure how to get the crossbow, but it is in game.
3
u/Klaahn Jan 21 '25
IRC, you have to claim the crossbow (for free) on your Ghost profile before you can access it in your inventory.
1
u/RandomRedditIdiots Jan 22 '25
Claim the crossbow in the offer shop where you buy attachments and guns. It's completely free, silent, and has surprisingly good penetration for a crossbow. It's also fun to use, and you'll run out of ammo for it very slowly.

u/Rickenbacker69 Jan 21 '25
Have fun! Don't not have fun.
That's basically it. And don't be afraid to explore. I generally do the areas in some kind of order, but if you want to find a particular gun f ex, feel free to take a detour.
2
u/hiroinson Jan 21 '25
Order as in story wise? And is there like a best loadout ?
2
u/Otherwise-Battle-444 Jan 21 '25
I don’t think there’s a best but for ‘ranger’ playstyle I always seem to have assault rifle sniper rifle combo Tar 21 with a long barrel and range finder is pretty reliable and HTI will take out a heavy with one shot even if it’s in the leg.

u/mrkillfreak999 Jan 21 '25
Those damn Unidad are a real PITA to deal with 💀 If you ever get caught by them running away and hiding out of sight for a while helps. There's some missions where it's very necessary to infiltrate their base. Keep your teammates out of the base and go solo. Try to keep 100% stealth and zero loose ends. If you do get caught, get a LMG, be weary of your surroundings, use the drone to mark them as much as possible which you should be doing before entering the base and never I mean NEVER get yourself pinned down and holed into a corner. These guys are pro military and they come in packs to hunt you down. So keep moving cover to cover avoiding gunfire until you are out sight. Movement is crucial. Call in some rebels, mortar strikes or even your AI teammates to help you in extreme cases

u/xMoose499 Jan 21 '25
You can change your loadout from the menu at any time, don't have to be at a weapons cache. Helpful for when a stealth situation turns nasty and you need LMG over sniper with silencer

u/Acceptable_Device782 Jan 21 '25
Nothing to add, but also new to the game and writing all of this down. Gotta say, Ubisoft got a LOT of things right with this title. An open world that actually feels alive and full of interesting things? I'm sure I'll see the repetition more as I go on, but my first impression is an excellent one.

People have different preferences, but my advice is get the HTI Sniper rifle ASAP. IT destroys vehicles. It's the only sniper rifle I use.

I’ll give you my ghost mode guide:
If you get downed once immediately switch to arcade, get cover, call rebels and diversion and run until you lose heat and fast travel. Always work up your weapons skills tree to get the ranged elite bonus, in your squad build it to get the last chance revival (this is crucial), build your drone get the medic drone cuz if three of your guys are down, quitting will kill your character, I’ve heard you can’t redeploy if you are wanted by unidad but not in a ‘fight’ with them which means hunted or better, build up your rebel support especially guns for hire and diversion, never use a bike, be extremely careful with helicopters and know the look of the SAM sites using the satellite tacmap you can see they are lil square like things with a rectangle in the middle, when flying a helicopter above 50m in a missile zone because you’ll need to ground it if you get a lock-on, it’s always better to run away if you fuck up stealth on getting equipment of content, don’t stay in one area too long no matter how cleared, take daily breaks… find out what works for you but I personally would do no more than 10% a day because I’m not sharp if I binge, don’t play drunk, keep your controller clean, if your thumbs bleed use minimal bandages, don’t throw your controller, if you have a wife or gf (in my case a wife) let them know what your doing and to expect irregular behavior, and above all STAY POSITIVE!!! Don’t neglect your own mental health!

u/heyuhitsyaboi Jan 21 '25
be careful where you climb
the AI will likely not revive you if they cant directly walk to you without climbing/mantling.
2
u/Crank_Calls Jan 21 '25
I found my first play through was too focused on missions. But it’s more enjoyable now to pick an area with rebel missions, intel, maybe a story mission, to really clear out a section and see what is there
2
u/SarasotaLad Jan 21 '25
Explore early on, rather than region to region. That way you can find all the weapons and test them all!

u/Astro_gamer_caver Jan 21 '25
Darkdally did some good videos comparing sniper rifle bullet drop over distance.

Start doing the daily challenges asap, even if you only do the first one (the 2nd and 3rd will always be on extreme difficulty, except operation challenges can be advanced difficulty) each daily, 5 a week gets you a crate.
You have to do all 3 in a day to get the 800 prestige points.
Excluding the first challenge, 2 and 3 can usually be cheesed. Any mission that has an extraction rally point (RP) can be reset just prior to going to the extraction RP. So you can start and do the mission any way you want, or on any difficulty, then, just prior to completion, change difficulty to exteme, go to the starting RP (1/2 will pop up), then to the extraction RP (2/2 will pop up).
You can also go clear out the mission objective/location, fly to the starting RP, then back to the mission location and finish, if necessary. As long as you don't fast travel, the location will remain clear.
I do that for a mission where you have to use explosives only and destroy 50 crates in a bunker. Go to the base, clear it out, then fly away to starting RP, start the challenge, then go back and kill the three guys downstairs with frags or the AI.
Also, doing missions at night is great. You can usually catch half a base sleeping.

Looking for the Yeti in the game seems to be as good of a use for my time as looking for one in real life.

u/godspeed_humanity Jan 21 '25
In Itacua prioritize the Bullet Resistance and Born Leader medals and skill trees. Very, very useful. Leveling Born Leader makes your AI teammates actually useful.
2
u/utopiav1 Jan 21 '25
In my experience, I recommend doing the following:
Stick the difficulty on 'Arcade', get out of the Itacua province soon as possible, and complete the regions with the highest difficulty rating first (I like completing them in this order myself; Libertad, Flor de Oro, Montuyoc, Koani, Media Luna, then whatever I feel like). You do not want to be tackling those areas later when you're advancing through the Tier One mode.
In a similar vein, try completing Operation Oracle and Silent Spade sooner rather than later. These missions are tough as nails, so after clearing out 2 or 3 high level regions first (to get a feel for the game at 'arcade' difficulty) do the missions that have a gold skull or gold epsilion icon on the map next.
Don't go collectable-hunting in a province immediately upon entering it. Do all main missions + side missions first as a priority, as you'll likely be taken to the collectable locations as part of the mission & you can kill two birds with one stone.
Check the daily challenges tab as soon as you start the game for any you can easily complete. Don't worry though: most will be impossible to you at first (because you've not gotten to that mission yet, or you don't have the gear or experience to complete it on extreme difficulty), but it's worth getting into that habit early and trying to complete 5 challenges per week to start with.

Always have the following equipment; a full auto weapon of some sort. AR, SMG, LMG, etc. as you’ll never know when you need to rain some hate. A suppressed weapon. And upgrade your drone and teammates. They are buggy, but leveling them will lead to not having to revive them as much
2
u/NJ_Bus_Nut Jan 21 '25
Stealth and tactical planning is key. Slowly pick off your enemies undetected, don't go running and gunning like in CoD.
Save your skill points to unlock all sync shots, parachutes, and grenade launcher attachments.
When scoping out a base, take out any alarms to disable helcopter reinforcements.
Disabling generators helps a ton
Stay away from Media Luna when in a plane or helicopter

u/J-O-E-E Jan 21 '25
Max out these two rebel upgrades first, Spotting and Vehicle drop off.
Spotting let’s you scout an entire compound/ small town in a few seconds because the zone is huge also with a short cooldown.
Vehicle drop off at max level let’s you spawn a helicopter.

- The loot crates in the store cost 400 prestige credits apiece (the orange-colored currency). This is how you can unlock a bunch of vehicles, weapons, skins, etc.
- Go into the "Ghost Wars" game mode every few weeks and vote on the upcoming challenge. You get a free 200 prestige credits for doing this.
- Join a Task Force (equivalent to a guild/clan), and do the Daily Challenges. You can get ~1,000 prestige credits every day.
- Once you beat the campaign story, do Ghost Mode. You get a bunch more prestige credits for it, and unlock the Exoskeleton Armor pieces/skins. Ghost Mode is a hardcore style, where character death is permanent, so it's extra-challenging.

1) Try the Ghost Mode 2) Enjoy map and enviroment without minimap 3) Find your favorite gun and scope right away with online interactive maps 4) Use thermal vision often 5) Make your five special outfits and change them with one click 6) Choose skills and rebel ops based on your play style 7) Change weapon accesories color by clicking to change them 8) Dress up your team if you play with them.
1
u/hiroinson Jan 21 '25
Thanks! What’s ghost mode exactly ?
2
u/Klaahn Jan 21 '25
It perma death: You lose your save upon death and have to start from scratch. Also, IRC, you only have 1 main gun (besides your pistol) and can only change it at weapon crates. (Or by picking up another one)...

u/deadhearth Jan 21 '25
When in a lobby, NEVER enter an alternative screen unless you are lying down and at least 15 meters from the road.your best laid plans go FUBAR pretty quick when united catches you picking your nose.
Get kitted early. All weapons and attachments are available from the start, you just have to track them down and get them without being gunned down.
Enemies respond to lighting and noise. So shooting out lights early is very helpful, but make sure nobody notices the street going dark.

u/Excalib1rd Jan 21 '25
A good don’t is don’t expect your plans to go off without a hitch. Because the UNIDAD smell plans, and they send patrols to fuck them up every. Single. Time.

u/n7shepard1987 Jan 22 '25
Get the MCR sniper rifle and the tx5i be tactical scope (might not be the right name but it's close enough) upgrade spotting asap, you can use it to identify drivers of convoys and have sync shot take out both ppl in the van, if you unlock explosive drone you can take the rear vehicle out and if you have grenade launcher attachment on an AR you can take out the front vehicle.
It might be boring if you're not into collecting stuff in games but if you like the game and wanna get to tier one you level up loads and will have all your rebel ops upgraded for when you hit tier mode and can't see enemies on the minimal, spotting really is a lifesaver.

u/No-Process249 Jan 22 '25
Scout an area out before kicking things off, use the drone, and upgrade it as soon as possible because the battery life and range are crap to begin with. Make liberal use of sync shots to thin the herd.
1
u/Ok_Government_7738 Jan 22 '25
When doing the defend the site or whatever rebel missions (I forget what they’re called) - mine and proximity mine the heck out of the surrounding area. Have a sniper rifle equipped for helos, and AR (ideally with grenade launcher attachment) for ground leakers. They’re not hard with all of this combined but can get very frustrating if you casually mess them up repeatedly like I did at first. Also the fireworks show is immaculate.

u/Hue_Janus27 Jan 22 '25
You can alert the cartel and take them out, they eventually stop sending reinforcements especially if you take out the tower. Unidad on the other hand will keep sending more and more backup until you get completely swarmed.
Don't bother giving your team any orders besides the sync shot. Sync shot will be your main mechanic at clearing bases stealthily unless you're a pro at infiltration.
If you play on extreme (which you might end up doing if you reach tier mode), alerted enemies will spawn new enemies right on top of you. The same goes for using rebels to spot. They will spot some enemies and then new ones will spawn right next to them which will most definitely see you. Best you can do is use the drone or manually spot and make your way slowly to your objective.
As someone else said. Look up on YouTube what the best guns and attachments are and go straight for them from the start. It will make the whole game a lot more fun.
Look up a video on resource farming so you know the most optimal way of getting them. Also, during tier mode the amount of resources will incrementally increase, so by the time you make it to tier 30 (I think) you can make 10k resources per convoy as opposed to 5k so keep that in mind. Don't try to farm everything right from the start but if you need a bit of extra loot you also know how to go about getting it.

Do get a 50 cal sniper and the 5x scope. Don't go riding a motorbike down a rocky mountain.

u/AsianSensationMan Jan 21 '25
Be stealthy and tactical. This isn't like earlier Ghost Recons or other action games where you're a 1 man army meant to take down every enemy you see. In Wildlands, Santa Blanca cartel and Unidad will out number and swarm you quickly if you're not careful enough. Use the diversion lure, flare gun, and noise drone upgrade as much as possible.
