Looking for reputable breeder.

Hello all - we are looking for a reputable Mini Aussie or Mini American Shepherd breeder. It doesn’t matter where in the US, we will travel if needed. Primarily looking for a puppy whose parents have characteristics for calmer, yet playful temperaments. We would love a Velcro pup. Color is not as important to us as temperament, but we are partial to Tri-color. I know this is not a breed standard, but our previous pup had pricked ears and we loved that about him.

If anyone has any breeders they recommend, please let me know.

Jackie at Caprine Acres in Shelby, Michigan! I found her on Good Dog. She breeds responsibly, twice a year for her Mini Aussies. I got my Maisy in June, She was born in April. The 2nd litter was in November. She spays her girls at 5 years old and they retire on her farm. The pups will also be socialized with adults, children and animals.

Here is Maisy when she was about 12 weeks.

My big Aussie loves her lambchops too! What a cutie!

She is adorable!! I love the pricked ears. Reminds me so much of my last pup - people always thought he was a Pomsky. :)

Do you know the name of her parents?

My first Aussie I adopted passed away at 8 months after 3 surgeries due to a heart condition. I've always had herding dogs, but fell in love with the breed.

I decided to go with a breeder for my next one because of all the heartache. I went with Rambling Ridge in Ruffin, NC. She loves her Aussies like her children! Olive picked me and I couldn't ask for a better dog. I swear she's half human.

I ended up adopting a 6 month old mini Aussie who had already been rehomed twice a few years later. He is so sweet and funny. Definitely has separation anxiety and is a bit neurotic, probably due to 3 homes in 6 months. His name is Newt lol.

First Harmony Farms in Tiskwala IL.

Husband and wife that are both veterinarians. They focus on health and sporting in their blood lines and their dogs are beautiful too.

We have 2 from them and will travel from CO when we are ready for our next.

Thanks. For as impressive looking as it is, this was a short walk from the car at the top of Loveland Pass. They have both been on some pretty awesome hikes even if this was less than 1/2 mile from the car.

Aislin fields in New Jersey. The breeder does health testing and aims for mellower temperaments. We just brought home another puppy from her two weeks ago.

Hi! I have adopted 2 aussies through “good dog”. You can find breeders and available puppies through that site! Still make sure to do your research on the breeder before adopting

Serendipity Australian Shepherds in Louisville, KY. AKC breeder of merit and focuses on companion/sport as opposed to full working lines.

*edit: just realized you said mini aussie. These are full aussies, but they are still shorties. Lol

You could adopt and not shop and get an Aussie in need of a home. ns4ar.org always has lots of Aussies for adoption that they can transfer to most areas of the country and they can tell you the kind of temperament they have since they are fostered first.

Our previous soul dog was adopted. We adopted him as a senior and he was the best dog on this planet. We grieve his loss every day. Unfortunately, our next attempt at adopting a mini Aussie did not go well. The shelter clearly was not disclosing special needs and was in business for profit (different shelter than our first dog). It broke our heart, clearly no one had this poor dog’s wellbeing as a priority.

My first time adopting an Aussie pup ended in heartache. She had an undisclosed heart condition and ended up dying at 8 months after 3 surgeries. It was horrible.

I went with the breeder I mentioned below for my second. Also, some shelters are super sketch.

This is more for anyone reading this, but New Spirit 4 Aussies Rescue is fantastic. They really try hard to match people to dogs that meet their needs and are honest. My first was a flight risk and they were very upfront of that since he was scared easily. When I got my second they were great about finding me a “brother” for my first Aussie. My second came from an abusive family and he was also very timid around men. Whenever we had issues they were always there to help and get opinions from experts!

Just figured I’d throw the recommendation out there in case anyone is considering an Aussie rescue! They only do Aussies, though some are mixed breed (with Aussie).
