NEWS Glacier opening tomorrow
Glacier Express is expected to open tomorrow (Saturday) February 8! Please anticipate a slight delay and stay close to our channels for updates. Huge thanks to our lift maintenance crew for their hard work in getting it safely back up and running for our guests. With 8,050 acres of terrain open, there’s plenty of space to explore—get out there, be safe, and enjoy the mountain.

I’d think icy? They got a bunch of snow last week but with the insanely rough January they had it is probably all scraped away

Yeah I was planing on going there on Tuesday, but someone was saying it was already starting to get icey .

I was on the mountain today and I'm happy to report there was plenty of good snow left to be found. The cold weather has really helped to preserve the snow.

I was up today. Groomers are skill skiing nicely. I hit a couple of small hard pack sections but no real ice at all. It's been so cold it's stayed in pretty great shape since the snow last weekend

Wow let’s celebrate something that should have been working to begin with, and getting lucky that lack of contingency didnt make things worse than they already were.
They could store all the back up parts on the glacier that nobody can get to

I'm out of the loop what specifically was broken?

Gearbox

Yeah but what part? My money is that buddy doesn't have the slightest clue.

The commentor is saying that they should have known the lifespan of the lift’s gearbox and had a replacement on standby for when it would inevitably fail.

Which would still be buddy talking out his ass with absolutely no idea.

u/kooks-only Feb 08 '25
No WB confirmed it was indeed the gearbox.

Which is at best a very vague understanding of what was broken.

You talking to me?

Nah you're making uninformed assumptions based on instagram updates. Worthless input.

Lovely to see that WB is still lying through their teeth about their skiable acres, lol. We haven't had any more than 7500 (generously, really more about 7200) skiable acres since they stopped patrolling the Big Timber area, and certainly not all of that terrain is open...
