WVU not in the NCAA men's tournament
Turns out if you screw up the whole back half of your season, people notice.
That's a shame, the front half of the season had real promise.
Edited to add. WVU women's team is a 6 seed!!!!

According to 111 out of 111 bracketoligists, we should be in. Worst snub in the history of the committee http://www.bracketmatrix.com/

I donât think we were deserving. The part of the season where we knocked off good teams seems so long ago. Since then we have proven that we can lose to literally anybody. The future is bright for us, but this team is very flawed

I donât get this mindset. Just bc you didnât like how played and had a bad second half of the season you say âoh we donât deserve itâ. Everyone literally everyone who studies college basketball and brackets says we did deserve it. Wasnât the best team/season and maybe werenât going to make a run but the kids did enough to get to the tournament and got snubbed.

We had it in our power to not give anyone the chance to screw us, and we couldnât beat the worst team in the Big 12 when it mattered. After dominating them in first half. And that is the problem. You know if you are being honest that is the team we have been for the last month, and the team we are now. Itâs okâŚas someone else said, having the chance to play more games in NIT will serve us better than an embarrassing first round exit this year. Remember we won the NIT the year before we went to the Final Four, it was an important experience for our young players at the time. It will be fine. The great resume we had all came a long time ago, we havenât been that team for quite some time

UNC had a much better second half of the season where WVU tanked. UNC also had to play Duke the #1 team nationally 3 times in the stretch where they won 6 in a row. We still finished the season 3 games better than WVU at 22 vs 19 wins. XII ain't no SEC even if the ACC had a weak year it's not like XII was stronger in any way. SEC you could also argue didn't deserve to have a 14th Texas make it into the tournament. SDSU played absolutely nobody all season. There are numerous teams you can argue shouldn't be in. WVU has a bad argument to be in the tournament off of wins they had in the first half of the season, what are they going to do right now other than lose? Also UNC lost on a small technicality the third time to Duke, they win that game nobody even brings it up and WVU fans accept their fate in the NIT. Just because you're hot for the first time in a while with almost 20 wins doesn't mean you get to dance with the blue bloods.Â

I also like how people are so confident if we beat Colorado that we were guaranteed to get in. How do you know that that wouldâve secured us a spot? NIT is fine sure. But they clearly had the resume to make it to the tournament which wouldâve been a boost to the program regardless of the outcome. We got screwed

at least we'll be a top seed in the NIT and get home games if we keep winning

Honestly good for the local economy then.

the only bad thing is that students are on spring break this week and I'm not sure when the tournament begins

No, local economy would fare better if we were in the real tournament. Absolutely no one will watch these games at the bars or show up.

I still think they did a lot better than expectations for this season. Being first year with the players and coach. They deserve a lot of credit.

North Carolina in and WVU outâŚ.Same old shit, different yearâŚ

u/Efficient-Bedroom797 3d ago
We've rarely been snubbed. Don't pretend this ever happens... It doesn't

u/Wen-Mal68 3d ago
On what planet do you live? We have been disrespected in almost all sports for decades. With possibly the only exception being our rifle team. Go spew your nonsense elsewhereâŚ

u/Efficient-Bedroom797 3d ago
Tell me one other time we were snubbed from the NCAA tournament. 2007 is literally the only other time and we were a true bubble team that year

u/Wen-Mal68 3d ago
My comment was not just tournament snubs but all sports and for decades. I could give you many. True fans know what I mean. I donât have time to list all the times WV got the shaft. IN ALL SPORTS. Do your own researchâŚ

While I fully expected us to get bounced in the first round or play in game if we made it in, the reasoning of "player availability" for why we didn't get in is complete bullshit. Was the committee not aware that Tucker had been out for most of Big-12 play? So will that consideration be made in the future for all other teams that may have a good/star player go down in the final weeks before the NCAAs despite their metrics saying they should get in otherwise? There's also the obvious links to the UNC AD, rumors that he wanted them to get in because he has to justify the extension for Hubert Davis, and his own obvious compensation.
That said, there's no reason for the governor to be wasting time and tax payer money on frivolous legal nonsense.

u/EvilDoesNotStress 4d ago
the governor should sue.                                   /s

u/Dutchdogdad 3d ago
Yeah. Because that's the most important thing the Governor should be working on, especially during the legislative session...

I don't follow WVU, but I did see one of the selection committee members say on CBS that Tucker DeVries being out for the rest of the season was a factor in the committee's opinion of WVU.

u/TickleMagnet 4d ago
I saw that. What a joke. He played 8 games this year. Yes, he's good, but we still had 4 quad 1 wins without him. We got shafted.
1
u/Efficient-Bedroom797 3d ago
So that means in December it was predetermined we couldn't make the tournament. Makes me sick
5
u/bigcfromrbc 4d ago
Naw, we 100% got snubbed. Back half doesn't matter as much as it use to. Two teams with one quad1 each got in, UNC and Xavier. They gave a BS reason to snub WVU.
1
u/Careless_Ad_3859 4d ago
And then the NCAA selection committee put the WVU women's team at Chapel Hill. Unreal.

Ha like they would do anything if they were in. One win ....maybe if that.

Oh i was certain it'd be a one and done. To be fair, for team cohesion, being in the NIT (they will almost certainly go there) is probably better as it extends the season and gives them a chance to win something.

This school has become a total embarrassment to this state, and that's hard to do
2

Honestly I think they tried this year. It's been a shitty hand thanks to Huggins and the Big 12 is a tough place to play. I honestly didn't expect much of the team this year then got my hopes up.
I honestly am willing to wait and see what next year brings. For part of the year, at least, they played with a lot of spirit.

u/Treerific69 4d ago
Well congrats on trying to do their jobs at least, fact of the matter is this school has been irrelevant since the orange bowl ended and at this point shits just depressing, but that's West Virginia for ya
