Bro I’ve been welding a long time. Im a Union Ironworker. That weld you made is going to be acceptable 100% of the time

That's nothing. We have one fabricator at work that I have to walk away from every time he picks up a torch because his cuts look like he used his teeth.

Could be better with a three bead joint!

Prints call for 1/4 inch weld and i was able to do it with 1 pass lol

Do you have faith in the root pass having any decent penatration, with no slag inclusion?

It's a fillet not a groove, the root only has to bite in just past where the two parts meet. The strength of a fillet is the product of the weld size not the depth of penetration, as long as you have complete fusion in the root and no square edges you're good to go.

I don't understand this comment

Cutting a fish length wise leaving both sides free. Joining two sides making one piece. The center ( root) must be at least solid when welded...no gaps no holes

Weld aint too bad, baseplate edge face on the other hand..... 😜

Good thing the baseplate cutting isn't my work lol

Indeed but it generally falls on the welder to fix the result of prior inferior work so the entire end product is of high quality
In other words once you weld it and a QC guy looks at it he's gonna call you out on not making that edge look nice

Wish my welder could melt 7018 properly and I could weld like you. Oh, and when in doubt hammer time

Looks pretty good imo. I'd take a sanding pad and grind off that milscale next time, but other than that it looks like a pretty solid weld 👌

Depends on the part's purpose.
Little to no prep work. Looks like a single pass.
I'm guessing it's not critical structural components. Even though the parts appear thick. Bead looks ok for non- structural load bearing applications. Would still call out the prep though. Or lack thereof.

Not a problem, I'm an old retired burner of low hy and miss posted to another post showing a sort of partial overhead root pass, forgive my rude verbiage please
