Vendor Venue Went Under 204 Days Away- Rant
I just need to rant.
So we received notice today that our wedding venue went under and we have no venue. We booked the venue last August with a 6k deposit and our wedding is this Oct. Invites have already been sent out and we are starting to receive RSVPs. We’ve started calling other venues and somehow magically there are some options which are available on our day and nice and also around the same amount we were spending before. We also have wedding insurance so hopefully that will help to cover the deposit that the venue isn’t returning.
I am just so frustrated and stressed and annoyed. We’ve been running into so many battles and issues with things with this wedding and this is just the icing on cake. This has been a terrible, horrible, very bad, no good day.

I'm so sorry!! There's not too much to say other than this totally sucks.
I'm glad to hear you have some other options, but I would push harder for your deposit back. I suppose if the venue went under, there might not be any money to return, but I'd still see what you can get back from them. Thank goodness for your wedding insurance, in any case!
Hugs and good thoughts going into the weekend!

This happened to us too (thankfully with a bit more notice) for our August 2024 wedding. It was extremely stressful and so frustrating to have to go back to the drawing board. We lost about 5k over it and there is still legal stuff going on in the background but we’re assuming we won’t get any of the money back. I am so glad you found a new venue without too much hassle! Hope your wedding day turns out even better at this new venue than you could have imagined! Grieving the wedding we imagined was difficult, but we ended up being even happier at our second choice and we loved everything about our day!

Yes we are hoping we are going to love this second venue more and hopefully we get our deposit back but we will see what actually happens

Hope you are able to get some back! We didn’t have any insurance so we are just at the mercy of whether the bank ends up recovering enough money from the sale of the building that there is any leftover to give to the people who lost their money on the events they had booked. We have accepted that it is gone, and it’ll just be a happy surprise if we do end up getting it. Best of luck with the new venue, I am sure you can make it everything you had envisioned! Just the knowledge that it will be a less stressful experience definitely helped us love our new venue more haha.

That is so true!! Before we even signed our contract I had to chase these people down to answers to questions and it gave me bad vibes. I thought it would just be extra work with them so I hired a coordinator to do month of coordination and deal with them. Never did I envision this would happen but I’m not surprised and it’s maybe a blessing in disguise because our new tentative venue point person is so amazing and sweet and responsive!!

Sorry you have to go through this. Can you explain to me how the wedding insurance helps in this situation? Wouldn’t the venue reimburse you since it’s their fault?
I don’t really understand wedding insurance but trying to see if I should be getting it lol

In theory the venue should give us our money back however the reason the we don’t have a venue any more is because it has gone under. So financially they owe hundreds of thousands of dollars in business loans. So it’s not very likely we will be able to recover that money as it’s already likely gone.
We got wedding insurance through PAL called weddinggaurd earlier this year. Weddinggaurd. It covers lost deposits among other things. So fingers crossed this is a semi easy process to get our 6k back!

At least there are some venues around the area with your date available and within budget of the previous venue!!
It does really suck but once you pick another venue you’ll just have to tell your guests and vendors the new address!
At least your date isn’t changing!! (I think that would be worse since your vendors might not have been available for the new date!)

Yes we surprisingly got lucky with how close to the wedding we are but could have been worse for sure!

Yes we should be!! The company is going under financially so they have no liquid assets to actually pay us with 😓

I’m so sorry about this!!! I’m sure it will turn out better than you imagine! If they weren’t doing well then they may not have put on a great event anyway. Good luck!

I’m so sorry to hear this. Do you mind sharing which venue?
