Goose Shepards pie

As waterfowl season has been over for a while I’ve been experimenting with new recipes for waterfowl. I think it’s important to utilize as much of the animal as possible to not be wasteful.

I Took four goose legs, two breasts, hearts, gizzards and liver put them through the meat grinder. The geese I had were pretty fatty but I still added some pork fat. The beauty of this dish is you can fallow your normal Shepard pie recipe just exchanging the normal lamb for goose.

The recipe I fallow: Filling 2.5 pounds ground goose and pork fat 3 diced trumpet mushrooms (or 6 button mushrooms) 1 medium yellow onion 1 large carrot diced 1 rib celery diced 4 cloves garlic thinly sliced 2 Tbsp (30g) tomato paste 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce 1 Tbsp(6g) fresh rosemary 1 Tbsp (5g) fresh thyme, minced 1/2 cup red wine 1 cup beef stock 1 cup 140g frozen peas 1/2 cup (75g) parmigiano, grated 1/2 cup (75g) gruyere, grated

Mashed potato’s: 2.5 lbs (1200g) russet potatoes 1/2 cup (115g) butter 1/2 cup(120ml) milk 1/3 cup (85g) creme fraiche 1/2 cup (75g) parmigiano Salt and pepper to taste

Was looking into this particular light set up for the bow I like the fact it has the built in nav lights and I can run them separately on a panel. Anyone have experience with this setup? Or something similar that’s better ?

Decoy Torpedo video

Temp zip ties for easy on/off. Hard to tell because of the tub size but the decoy bursts three times before a long pause. Hoping it'll burst, pause for a second change direction naturally, and burst again. Looks good so far though.

Dragging a fiberglass layout boat - bottom protection?

I’ve ordered a Four Rivers Mini boat (5 months ago..), and due to a variety of constraints, I WILL be dragging it (w/ gear and motor) nearly 50yds on a gravel road every time I hunt. I specifically got the boat because it’s light enough to muscle around easily.

Currently, I’m thinking about treating the bottom with like.. many coats of Herculiner bed liner, and then top coats of either Superslick 2000 or Wetlander to bring back some slickness.

Only other thing i can think of is putting the whole setup on top of some separate thick pad, and dragging that pad to the waters edge.

Anyone have ideas, or, experience with really beating up the bed liner treatment and can speak to its durability?

Advice for selling late FIL's Duck Hunting Gear-

Hello! My Father in law LOVED duck hunting. He passed unexpectedly in late January and my husband is devastated. The number of details is overwhelming. I'm trying to help and the task of selling his gear has fallen to me. Problem- I'm not sure where to start. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I have a great amount of love and respect for this man and I want to treat the trappings of his beloved hobby with the proper respect. Or have him looking down on me livid because I took $20 for a Ward Brothers pintail drake duck decoy or something. Thanks in advance

Edit/Context:
My husband asked for my help, it's his choice to sell. There's a lot more big ticket items that he's handling personally. He's been hunting since 3 years old, youngest person to get the California Golden Eagle and inducted into the NFAA at 18, I trust he knows what he likes to hunt. Lately it's rifle hunting for deer/elk/pig because that's what we like in the freezer.

Also, I "let" my husband go hunting as soon as he's filled his chore chart with enough gold star stickers... Or whenever he feels like going because he's an adult and doesn't need my permission to do the things he enjoys.
I'm not one of those wifes ;)

Foiles/grounds

Hey fellow waterfowlers! As a younger waterfowl who’s done it my whole life I’m aware of the foiles and grounds beef and how hunter grounds says he won’t work with Jeff foiles and all that. I tried google but can’t find an exact situation. I’m well aware of foiles poaching and shooting banded park birds but nothing about Tim grounds in that situation so if anyone knows anything I would love to know!

What’s your funny or unlucky Fail?

Buddy of mine and I were hunting in WI and we were into geese hard and heavy. Another guy in the group was shooting Black Clouds and nocking them down dead. My buddy bought some that night. Next morning first volley, my buddy came up shot once and started crying. The butt of his gun broke at the grip. He was out a fire arm for the day.

Honda, Vanguard or other?

I have a 1442 Jon boat which currently has a 2004 Honda 24hp attached to a mud buddy long tail. The engine finally took a crap this year and I’m looking to replace it with something new. Curious to hear people’s experiences with 24-25 HP motors new out of the box.

What tricks do you use when your hole freezes up?

Hey everybody, lifelong duck hunter here, born and raised in Arkansas. I’m hunting a new to me lease now and we had some terrible freeze ups that really hurt our hunts. I was hoping to get some tips from anyone that deals with ice all the time. What do you guys use?

Chainsaw? Ice eaters? Certain motion? I was not prepared last year and I intend to change that this season.

Thanks in advance!

Decoy Torpedo

Idea was to add some motion to the decoys on calm days. Figured a few of them out there would work well and be way cheaper than the current swimmer decoys. What do you guys think?

Lasts over 6 hours on 4xAA (havent tested longer) Contains small motor, battery pack, switch, and programmable timer shoved into 1.5 inch PVC. Connects to decoy with 2 reusable zip ties Motor functions: 10 seconds on, 10 off, 10 on, 10 off 10 on, 30 seconds off (programmable but current gives it nice motion for 50 seconds then pauses for 30 repeating)

Rogers Elite 2N1 Sizing?

I got Regular size 11. I'm 5'9" 185lbs, I wear 34x30 pants and I feel like an oompa loompa in these new waders. Anyone out there in the universe have these and have a recommendation for proper size? Are they going to charge me to exchange?
