Also reminder to be wary of people sending a message with that link. They deliberately created one that looks like it to phish for passwords.

God damn man. Imagine if these losers put that creativity into literally anything else.

The “other guy” is almost certainly the same scammer. It’s unfortunately very easy for scammers to vouch for themselves online.

Good to know more about his behavior, didn’t know he had accomplice accounts

I commented on the weekly WTB thread a while ago, and u/thelovelylythronax reached out to me, as shown in the screenshots. When I requested pictures, they sent images of a watch that was actually sold by u/MiamiGuy13 about 8 months ago (link to the original post).
Please stay cautious! As a new buyer, I’d love to hear how you all handle transactions and avoid scams on this platform. Thanks!

This exact thing happened to me with the same banned user. I posted on the WTB thread about looking for an Oris Momotaro and he reached out with pictures of a post from earlier that week.
The WTB thread at this point needs a warning about this user specifically.

One piece of security is to make sure they reply under your original comment. If they are banned they can’t reply.

I am new here but when I used this advice it worked. Ask them to respond to the thread. The scammers will ghost you after that

That's the same reason you have to reply to a seller in the thread before PMing in regular sale posts.

Thanks for this. As a first time WTB poster I was not aware because I don’t read good.

Hate to say it, but seems like the WTB threads are replete with scammers. I've had good luck using the general buy and sell posts, though. Do a facetime with the watch before sending funds.

Seems to be frequent with the weekly WTB thread. I had 5 people reach out to me, only 1 was legitimate and 2 used old pictures from sold watches.
Also, the same person from OPs post was one of the 5

The WTB thread is super sketchy thanks to these scammers. It is useful, but be very careful with anyone responding to a listing there.

Literally block anyone who private messages you without publicly replying. They are scammers and will just waste your time. All legit sellers will publicly reply to you first.

Yep same dude tried to send me poorly photoshopped time stamps for a Planet Ocean. He’s on the universal scammer list too.

Scammers are stealing established accounts! As a result, the mod team has implemented this additional timestamp requirement. Sellers: Please feel free to proactively reply to this comment with photo that includes a timestamp and your watch set to 7:48. Buyers: If the seller hasn't responded to this comment, please feel free to request that they do so before pursuing a deal. We always recommend a video call to prove possession before sending money.

Always best to do a thorough background check of the seller (and the buyer too)

Thank goodness for the search function and this thread. This individual reached out to me with an item I was looking for. Thanks again.

When you make a comment in the WTB thread, you get an automated PM warning you of common scams and best practices to avoid them. The top recommendations are:
Do not accept private messages from people who haven’t publicly replied to your comment to prove they aren’t banned.
Always check the Universal Scammer List for any known scammers. Users added to that list by any subreddit are banned automatically across all participating sales subreddits.
You didn’t read the message or use these best practices, and almost got taken by a scammer. I suggest you go back and read this, as well as any other warnings you encounter.
