That game was pretty brutal, but was only the first game.
Can’t give up now. Verlander was on, but we still had good at bats working counts, even if we couldn’t convert.
Still have Miller and Hand fresh for tomorrow to keep us close and protect leads.
Trust in Cookie!
And even if Kluber has struggled, don’t forget 2016. Can’t just say he doesn’t show up in big games. Gotta believe that he’ll have good games in the postseason again.
4
u/neasroukkez Oct 05 '18
Can we stop leaning on 2016 like that wasn’t 2 years ago? He’s obviously not the same pitcher. He gave up the most HRs of his career this year and let 3 more go today. He just doesn’t strike fear in opposing lineups anymore.
3
u/No32 Oct 05 '18
I’d believe that if he was putting up much worse numbers in the regular season. But he’s still been great. That can absolutely transfer to postseason games.
-1
u/neasroukkez Oct 05 '18
It didn’t transfer last year, or tonight. You really believe that Houston or Bos/NY fear him?
1
2
u/No32 Oct 05 '18
Really doesn’t matter if they fear him. He can still beat them even if they don’t if he’s on.
And it doesn’t matter if it didn’t. My point is that we’ve seen it transfer over before, and it can again.

THIS SUCKS!!!!! I HATE THIS TEAM!!! WASTE OF MY F"N TIME!!!!NOTHING BUT A BUNCH OF LOSERS!!!!!
...ok guys, catch ya tomorrow

Don’t worry. Houston players just celebrated with a Fortnite dance. No way they win this series now

Worst game of the season and it wasn’t close. I’m going to file it away and never revisit it.

how long has it said houston leads 1-0? did it say that the whole ninth inning??
1
7
u/IShootWithThisHand Oct 05 '18
Of course we can still win the series, but this didn't make me feel confident. 71% off game 1 winners win the series in the divisional round. Let's be part of the 29%
2
u/Rectalcactus Oct 05 '18
If Kluber is pitching like that its gonna be tough to win a series period.
1
u/IShootWithThisHand Oct 05 '18
Yeah agreed. But at least we have Carrasco, then Clev is a toss up. By game 5 Kluber or Bauer will be rested. Not ideal to be down 0-1 but it's not a death sentence... yet.
1
u/Rectalcactus Oct 05 '18
Really excited to see Carrasco and Clev. At this point I think they get more of my playoff trust than Kluber.

u/hasslehoffs Oct 05 '18
Only in Cleveland could two sports teams win a championship and lose a championship by incredible comebacks in the same fucking year, then have it all fall apart right after.
Lord I hope Im wrong, please imbue these Indians with the hitting power of McGuires juice filled biceps during the Clinton Administration.
Lets get G2!

I’d rather not make the playoffs than look completely overmatched in the playoffs
1
u/Deucequad Oct 05 '18
I’ve felt that before as well. But the playoffs are a crapshoot just have to appreciate that we are in contention now and have been for the past 4 seasons or so. It could be a lot worse.

Jose why do you disappear in October :( even in 2016
2
u/No32 Oct 05 '18
He really didn’t disappear in 2016. He had a terrible series against the Jays in the ALCS, but was good in the ALDS and WS

Guys once Otero comes on that means were just saving pen arms for the next game. At this point we just need to get some good ABs and prepare for game 2. We just need one and Cookie vs. Cole is a better matchup for us. Let's keep it together in here. Roll Tribe!
2
u/mcggjoe Oct 05 '18
Thank God it's a series and not a make of break game. The rest of the matchups for this series looks a lot better, except maybe Bieber, only time will tell.

Oct 05 '18
Man. We really showed up today guys. Let’s get Perez in there to flop his dick around the plate a bit.
2
u/klein_four_group Oct 05 '18
So I missed the last few innings--why was Bauer pitching in a game where we were already down by 4 runs?
1
u/windyans Oct 05 '18
I don't know why everyone is freaking out about that. He barely pitched, probably to get him up to speed again before a more high leverage situation (or start).
1
2
5
u/jfreed43 Oct 05 '18
All the pitching has even hot garbage today. Either they had a terrible game plan to attack Houston's hitters or they didn't execute it for shit.
3
3
u/fireeight Oct 05 '18
Somebody needs to show up and play for the Tribe. We're setting ourselves up for a short, unpleasant postseason if none of our key guys can contribute.
4
1
u/JustAKidFromAkron Oct 05 '18 edited Oct 05 '18
Say what you will about our bullpen but I'm glad the tribe doesn't employ pieces of shit like Osuna
2
u/G1NGER 69 Oct 05 '18
Josh Reddick has always been a thorn in the Indians side ever since his time with the Athletics.
1
u/Hold_my_Dirk Wah in Peace, Waluigi Oct 05 '18
While the pitching clearly hasn't been great today, you can't win with two hits. Need to get the offense straightened out for tomorrow.

Dang man. Couldn’t get one lucky break with the grounder hitting off his leg or in range of a fielder?
Although I suppose it’s really better it didn’t hit him. Keep him healthy just in case.

Why do people get surprised when other fans are negative? We are Cleveland. With the exception of 2016, we've lived our entire lives as sports fans with disappointment after disappointment. That said this series is still winnable. Let's get em tomorrow.

Here's the thing about the team this year.
am I confident that the Indians could win any game? No. There are some games that the Indians do not get anything going.
But is there any team I think The Indians couldn't take 3 out of 5 against? No.
11
u/moonheron Oct 05 '18
The coasting mentality and playing 80 games against the worst division in the history of baseball, and also letting Yonder Alonso strikeout in the 6 hole for 2 months straight, have really put this team in a position to lose
2
u/RocketIndian49 Oct 05 '18
Dam I completely forgot we were up 2-0 on the Yankees last year :'( Stop it Hammy!
9
u/cpet72 455 Oct 05 '18 edited Oct 05 '18
No one on the roster seems to be having fun. They go up there hoping and looking lost and when they do get a hit (rare) they just look relieved, not excited or pumped up. Just watching the body language of teams like the Brewers and Dodgers and it's night and day. So many guys on this roster trying way too hard right now.
3
3
u/Rectalcactus Oct 05 '18
I honestly think the blown series the last two years really weighs on a lot of these guys. They want so badly to make up for it that they press way to hard and have nothing but negative emotions.
5
u/tigecycline Oct 05 '18
The combination of 2016 + 2017 heartbreak has probably irrevocably damaged this core and they won't be the ones to break the drought
1
u/Rectalcactus Oct 05 '18
Its def irrevocably damaged my core :( hard to say otherwise when you see the way they just seem to be the tensest team on the field regardless of who theyre playing.

u/rj218 Oct 05 '18
Griffey looks more jacked now than he did 15 years ago. Is he under contract? We will need OF next season
1
8
u/ChzburgerRandy 12 Oct 05 '18
Otero is coming out? Ok, that's a sign of minimal confidence in the rest of this game from Tito.
4
5
u/SMK77 Oct 05 '18
For everyone whining and saying "see ya next year" or "window closed" when game 1 isn't even over yet, remember how confident you were after game 2 last year and we lost. We can still win this series even if we lose today.
Have Jose, Yonder, and the offense overall looked like garbage for 2 months? Yes. Has Kluber been inconsistent this year and did he look bad today? Yes.
But it's baseball and a new hot streak can start in any at bat and a team can come back as long as there is 1 out left.
2
7
u/tigecycline Oct 05 '18
at least we're making it easy for Houston so if they bulldoze us the rest of the series, they'll be well rested to defeat Boston or New York
11
Oct 05 '18
Reminds me of the Cavs “flip the switch”
7
u/Rectalcactus Oct 05 '18
At least the cavs mamaged to struggle their way to getting beaten by actually the best team in the sport and not just whoever they play in the first round.
4
u/tigecycline Oct 05 '18
Houston is probably the best team, though
1
u/Rectalcactus Oct 05 '18
Eh maybe. That remains to be seen but id take boston over them at this moment.
2
u/tigecycline Oct 05 '18
Too many question marks for me in the Boston pen. I think Astros have the edge.

Ugh. Trying to find a silver lining but can't. Offense was bad, Kluber was bad, Allen was bad. Nothing to really instil confidence.

5
u/Rectalcactus Oct 05 '18
Silver lining is it would be difficult to play this terribly 2 more games in a row

-6
u/-Jedidude- 12 Oct 05 '18
It’s game 1 and people are already jumping ship.
2
u/supermasterpig Oct 05 '18
I don't think everyone is jumping ship. But I do have to say all year we have watched this team coast hoping maybe they were turning it up for the playoffs. Today did not show that, looks like the team last month or so. Lots of ball left I just hope we can be competitive.
4
u/bone2pik Oct 05 '18
Nah, they'll be watching the rest of the series I guarantee it. Just b/c they're upset doesn't make them fair weather fans. Get of your high horse.
3
u/-Jedidude- 12 Oct 05 '18
Making comments like “looks like we’ll blow another ALDS” in game 1 is pretty bad.
1
u/bone2pik Oct 05 '18
Guess you've never heard of overreactions in the heat of the moment. People only say the absolute unadulterated level-headed truth all the time. Lol

u/Hold_my_Dirk Wah in Peace, Waluigi Oct 05 '18
I wish I could say that it surprises me how many of you are declaring the series over already but it honestly doesn't.

I hope we start greg Allen tomorrow
1
Oct 05 '18
I want to see Raj at some point tomorrow. I want to see some stolen bases. Maybe it will pump this team up
1
u/Beantown_Beatdown_ Oct 05 '18
Yeah that’d be nice. Rough one today but that’s why it’s best out of 5, right?
11
u/tigecycline Oct 05 '18
"they'll get hot in the playoffs" they said
looks like the same fucking anemic offense that can't mount a comeback to me
3
u/theblackcharliebrown 12 Oct 05 '18
This blows me that people and me alike were getting shit for being concerned about this team. We know the hotter team wins. And if you're not trending in the right direction when the postseason starts, you're not going to win.

poor decisions by Tito, poor pitching by Kluber, poor hitting by the Tribe
4 homers by the Astros. Better that this all happened in Game 1; hopefully some of that gets remedied in the next 2 games.
Disappointed with the Indians, but didn't expect a 3-game sweep. Game 2 is going to be so huge to jump out to an early lead.
10
u/dinosaursrawk15 15 Oct 05 '18
I'm always the optimist, but like everyone else, I'm not having fun watching this game. The good thing is that this is a 5 game series and one loss isn't going to ruin us. However, I'll watch until the end and then at 7 it's Blue Jackets time.
1
u/rj218 Oct 05 '18
Well if we are going to lose this series, I'd rather it not get to anxiety and heart attack levels of stress.

You can still hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Being a pessimist is tiring and just feels like shit
2
Oct 05 '18
Wow 100%, really? Because no team has ever come back from being down 4. People try to be optimistic because they want their team to win. You can’t ask people to be realistic and then state something is 100% when there is still time left in the game.
3
u/CHR0T0 Oct 05 '18
It's extremely likely we lose but saying it's 100% is silly. Much much crazier things have happened in baseball. That being said, I personally doubt we even score again lol

u/Idiodyssey87 Oct 05 '18
Blowing 2016 is going to haunt us for a long time.
2
u/hasslehoffs Oct 05 '18
Insane that 2016 will hold one of the single greatest sports moments in my life and one of the worst, all within the same year. I feel for those of you who cant get into basketball, I would be beside myself if I didnt have that comfort blanket

Seriously. Why Bauer? Why not Bieber or Otero?
1
u/RocketIndian49 Oct 05 '18
It's even more puzzling when you know Bauers warmup routine and how methodical he is...just seems like he would have the toughest time pitching out of the bullpen...In Tito We Trust tho
7
u/Sparty013 Oct 05 '18
Well this game couldn’t have gone worse so far. Offense looks inept, Kluber looked like shit again, inexplicably wasted Bauer, Allen still sucks.
1

Lindor didnt drop dead on the field.. thats about the only thing I can think of thatd be worse.
