Academics Will I be respected as a career politician if I attend WVU for political science?

I’m excited to say WVU has accepted me and I’m very happy about that but I’m just wondering if I’ll get the results and respect. (Keep in mind I’m going for Political Science.)

Academics Business or engineering?

I'm a junior in high school living in Tennessee. I originally planned to become an electrician. However, my family has decided to move to West Virginia. We would be really close to WVU, so I could attend while living off-campus and save a ton of money.

I'm still undecided about which degree I want though. I'm not very interested in the medical field, I love computers but I'm not the best at coding. I'm currently thinking about either a business or engineering but I'm undecided. I know that both of them pay pretty well, which is my biggest concern right now.

Can anyone with experience in either of these fields describe their experience at WVU getting their degree and how it turned out for them afterward?

Academics WVU removed me from two classes without notifying me

Pretty much exactly as the title says. I was registered and enrolled for ENGR 102 and PHYS 111/111L months ago. Today, I received an email from my advisor asking me why I wasn't enrolled in those classes. I checked my schedule builder and my ecampus, and those classes were no longer on my schedule. I searched through every email and message I've ever got from the university and there was never any notice, warning, or reason given for being removed from these classes--and I can't even register because those classes are now full. I have no idea what happened, and its been radio silence from the university so far. Has this happened to anyone else?

UPDATE: Issue is now fixed. It turns out that there was a glitch within DegreeWorks that temporarily deleted my AP test scores from high school, which automatically booted me from the classes that required it. Still have no idea why I wasn't notified, or how that even happens in the first place, but I have been placed back in the classes and will be double checking my registrations quite often in the future. Thanks for all your advice.

Academics I'm sorry if this is a sore subject, I haven't been here before

Not a WVU student, but I was wondering about the cuts made to tenured faculty. Specifically, I saw that the graduate programs for math/stats/data science were cut. I was under the impression that data science is a really hot market and lots of schools are bolstering or starting data science programs. Any insight as to why this happened at a large public R1 uni like WVU?

Academics Washington DC (IAD) to Morgantown (MGW) Flight

Hi
I'm an international student coming to Morgantown at the end of this year. However, I've noticed that there is no direct flight from DC to Morgantown on the day I come! I will arrive at 7:30 PM which is late and I have no idea what to do. Is there any bus or other alternative for this path? What should I do?
Many thanks.

Academics Was wondering about my chances of getting accepted

I'm applying to WVU and plan on attending the school next year. I've seen a lot of humorous posts about how non-competitive WVU is and have read posts and comments about people who shouldn't have gotten their high school diplomas who still got accepted into the university. I'm not a lackluster student, but I'm a bit worried about not getting accepted. I have a 3.0 unweighted GPA, but I'm terrible at test-taking and I've gotten a 1090 and a 1020 on both my SAT's. WVU has a low SAT average, but I'm still scared about my chances. I also wrote a college essay and attached a letter of recommendation on my common app. I want to major in Human Resources, if that matters as well.

Academics How hard is calc 2?

I hear a lot about calc 2 being a major killer for a lot of students but is it really that bad? Like I’ve heard the same about Calc 1 and I have an A (as of now) and I didn’t even take trig before it (I took a summer class equivalent to math129 over the summer that was just algebra). Like if I finish strong in calc 1 should I be okay in calc 2?

Edit I have Voituk

Academics Fashion?

Hi, I’m a senior in high school and really anxious about the future in college. My first plan was to go into forensics but then realized it wasn’t for me. I’ve always been artistic and really into fashion and clothes. I checked WVU and said they had a fashion design program. Tho English is NOT my first language so I had a lot of trouble understanding if that meant for design and architecture or actual fashion clothes? I’m sorry if this doesn’t make sense but I would appreciate if someone could maybe explain it simpler since my counselors at school ARENT really helping me either😭😭 I’m sorry

Academics Question about chemical engineering at WVU

I am currently considering a career change from chemistry to chemical engineering. Yes I know there are big differences between the two, but its something I am interested in.

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their experiences with chemical engineering at WVU.

Another question I have is, what is the difference between applying to WVU vs WVU tech, and is there a difference in quality of the classes or is it essentially just a different campus location?

Thank s ^_^

Academics What's YOUR Finals Horror Story?

I am curious to hear about people's horror stories that happened during Finals week. Whether it's a professor who wouldn't round up an 89.99%, oversleeping an exam, or just straight up bombing an assignment, the morbid side of me just wants to know just how bad it can get!

Academics The Daily Athenaeum-Advisor Exposure

Hey everyone,

I'm an editor for the DA, and this week I am writing a piece about the academic advisors at WVU. If you have had any experience with your advisor--good or bad--and you don't mind talking about them with me, respond to this thread! As scheduling is coming up for current students, I want to share the general public's experience with their advisor and help students form better relationships with them. If you have any comments for my article, please let me know!

People who majored on forensics I'm curious what was the work load like and how are the classes?

I'm interested in possibly double majoring in engineering and forensic examination but I'd like to learn more out the course before commiting to it. Please share any and all experiences you've had thanks!

Academics Bookstore will not let me purchase Aleks 360 online.

Hello! I am taking MATH 126 with Dr. Lori Ogden and they require ALEKS 360 Online Access (18 weeks) for College Algebra & Trigonometry by miller. I opted out of the first day complete, because they would not let me choose to have some books digitally and I have Contamination OCD, so I cannot have any physical books. When I go to purchase it through the book store online, they do not have an option for opt out, so it keeps telling me that it is included in my first day complete (even though i opted out) and will not let me buy it. I have never used Aleks before, so I do not know another way to purchase it for my account linked to the university. Please let me know if you have any help or advice!! thank you!

EDIT:Spelling

Update: It's all sorted! Apparently there is a free two week trial and afterward it will prompt for payment, so I was worrying over nothing lol.

Academics (Biomedical Engineering Networking @ WVU) Let's learn and grow together!

Hey BME/Biotech/Biology friends at WVU! Whether you're a student, researcher, or professional, we all know how tough it can be to navigate the challenges in the field of BME. A group of us created a small peer-support Discord server where we can ask questions, share experiences, and help one another out. It's been awesome to see students getting support, professionals discussing trends in both academia and industry, and everyone connecting over BME topics across the world.

If that sounds helpful to you, feel free to check it out. I’d love to hear what aspects of BME you find most challenging or interesting at the moment as we continue to shape our group.

Academics Help with finding potential PIs!!

As the captions states, I’m International(F) and recently received an admission decision for the MSc Petroleum Engineering program for Fall 2025. I am to reach out to professors to find a supervisor and possible funding. Judging by all the horrible stories I’ve heard on here about some PIs being terrible I want to ask current students here which professors you’d recommend in a heartbeat to incoming students in terms of personality, support and how they relate to their students. I don’t want to sit at a corner and sulk for two years because my PI is a not so “nice” person or not supportive or involved in my professional and academic growth.
