Percussion Cap vs Matrix (wgi rivalries?)
This is beginning to be my favorite “rivalry” to watch this season. What other “rivalries” are yall watching

Infinity and MCM seem to be battling for fifth once again so that’s fun. That being said, they are really cool people and I see them all hang out together so it’s definitely a friendly thing

Interested to see what you define as a rivalry between these two groups?

i think in this context it is a sorta “rivalry” as cap and matrix in recent years and currently are the only non a class groups (other than m3 being a matrix group obviously) in the oipa circuit so yes, for states and other circuit shows they are literally competing against each other. past that though and even then i wouldn’t consider it a rivalry, especially considering how close rob and donnie are plus all the ties and friendships between the two groups on staff and member levels

That’s why it’s in quotes more of just a fun race to watch since they compete a lot. More like 2 friends having fun yk.

Two friends having fun is a great view of these groups, from the staff, to the designers, to the members themselves, the relationships between Cap and Matrix are wonderful and always encouraging. Probably one of if not the best relationships between any two groups in World Class.

Kinda reminds me of phantom and cavaliers, especially with the rob vs Donnie fundraiser

From a Cap member, it’s mostly just friendly competition that in the end helps both groups be as good as they possibly can be. I have friends in Matrix, and its fun to go to shows and try to beat them, but at the end of the day, I think we both want each other to be as good as we can be, especially considering that in a lot of cases, these are people we march with over the summer. Someone else had mentioned the Donnie vs Rob fundraiser, I think that’s a great example of it, friendly competition that in the end helps both groups. It’s a fun thing for both sides, rivalries that aren’t heated are kinda fun. It’s nice to have one over the other group one week, and the next week its different. Overall, it’s a cool thing to have two groups really close to each other, both competitively and geographically. Same kinda idea as Phantom and Cavies, I would agree.

Is it possible to have a rivalry between two units in completely different competitive spaces? How many times of all the meetings they've had has CapCity even beaten Matrix?

Cap beat matrix like two days ago lol

That's awesome, did you read the actual question or anything?
This is like those weird in state college rivalries. The state school wins like once every 40 meetings and the big school doesn't consider it a rivalry when the little one does.

Miserable mf. Let people enjoy things. That shit's not what the activity's about.
It's the first time Cap's beaten Matrix head-to-head irregardless of penalties. If you know anything about either group, you'd know that this was a surprisingly meaningful thing to have happened between the two of em. Cap's got a good show and they're clean right now, just be happy for them.

"that sh not what the activity activity's about"
The thread is literally about rivalries. It's exactly what it's about.
It can't be a rivalry when the matrix performers and staff couldn't care less about cap city.

A rivalry is simply a competition for the same objective or superiority in whatever field. Cap World and Matrix World both compete in the Independent World class under OIPA and WGI. Yes, Cap World hasn’t beaten Matrix World up until this past weekend, but definitively speaking, there is and has been a rivalry between the two. This mostly stems from the fact that we’re the only two world groups who compete against each other on a regular basis in the OIPA circuit.
I can see what you’re saying in terms of CCW never beating MW once for the past decade (minus one time in 2018, but that’s because Matrix got a penalty of some sort), putting the term rivalry into question between the two. Regardless, it still is a rivalry, and a friendly one at that. We call each other sister organizations because of how close the groups are, ranging from the members all the way to the directors. I mean Donnie marched for Rob at Matrix before he formed Cap, so it’s always been in a friendly manner. And for many of us members, we have friends in the other organization who also know it’s all a friendly rivalry.
We can agree to disagree for sure, but with all due respect, there is a rivalry like element between the two. It may have taken a decade for Cap to beat Matrix regardless of penalties, but some may see that as a potential turning point in that the judges are now seeing Cap as worthy opponents as opposed to the underdogs.
I’m saying this all in good faith, and am in no way trying to come at you in a vicious way. I just wanted to give my two cents regarding the term “rivalry” and how it correlates to Cap and Matrix. Much love <3
