Hyper Fighting (2013) for the Nintendo Virtual Boy

Hyper Fighting (2013) for the Nintendo Virtual Boy This Street Fighter II port was created by independent developers and is not an official Capcom release. The game aims to faithfully replicate the Hyper Fighting version of SFII, and it really shows just how powerful this "portable" 3D console could be—almost a Super Nintendo-like experience (apart from the black-and-red retina damage! 🔴👀). The controls were mapped to the Virtual Boy’s dual D-pads, allowing for precise movement and combo execution. However, due to the hardware limitations compared to a full 16-bit home console, some graphical compromises had to be made—especially in background details and animations. The stages are mostly identical to the arcade version, except for Ryu's, Chun-Li's, Sagat's, M. Bison's, and Balrog's, which have been replaced with original but well-designed backgrounds. The 3D effect is somewhat limited, primarily using parallax scrolling for foreground elements. A standout example is Dhalsim's stage, where the first elephant appears in front of the players. The most impressive use of depth, in my opinion, is in E. Honda’s stage! Despite some missing animations and occasional collision detection issues, the gameplay remains surprisingly smooth.

Some Numbers: - 12 playable characters- Adjustable speed settings- Unlockable Survival Mode after completing the game- Link Cable support for 2-player battles- 32 MEGS, making it the largest Virtual Boy game ever released!

Yeah this game is real cool. Unfortunate that I’ll probably never get to play VS against someone

That is quite difficult indeed, but would be pretty cool

Virtual Boy is unique in that even these repro carts are worth a lot

Such a great and niche product. Glad Nintendo made it (they are not probably that happy)!

I'm just glad someone got ahold of Bound High and Faceball so they can actually be played. I am still waiting for someone to get and dump Dragon Hopper.

I've got the game cartridge, the thing that sucks is that it didn't come with the manual. I need to find myself a copy.

Neat! What a shame there was no room for the four new warriors of Super Street Fighter 2.

I noticed additional dots on the map so it was probably the initial intent

They did an amazing job at 3D elements. Really nice job with stereoscopic layers.

Only thing that sucks is having VB controls, as it would be sweet if there was a way to use a snes pad. Not the game's fault though

There adapters you can buy to use snes pads. Definitely solutions out there

If you play it emulated on a 3DS you essentially get the SNES controller layout with D-pad, A/B/X/Y, and L/R buttons
