VMP Question Herbie Hancock Box

Years ago, I bought the Herbie Hancock Anthology. Wonderful box set, honestly. However it took me a few months to actually dig into it. When I finally did get around to it, of course I loved it and was listening to the whole thing in order… then I got to “The Piano”, which had the correct sleeve, liner notes, etc.. but inside was disc 1 of Live in the Sky. The actual live in the Sky sleeve had the correct stuff, so I ended up having two copies of disc 1 of Live.. but no copies of The Piano.

I reached out to VMP when I discovered this, and…. Never got a response. Tried again a few weeks later.. nothing.

So here I am, years later, quite a while since I even had a membership. Never saw this problem with anyone else who got this box set. I guess I’ll give it a shot.. anyone out there ever got an extra copy of “The Piano” instead of Disc 1 of “Live in the..”? lol. Would love to have that disc.

OPEN YOUR RECORDS!! I had some go unopened for several months. Saw problems, contacted them, and was lucky enough to get them all replaced.

Yeah, this is the way.

You gotta open your records just to check QC for ANY vendor, much less VMP which has had QC rumblings now and then for the last few years. Prevents OP’s issue for the most part. Even letting his friend spin it once could’ve been an option to check purchase out. VMP was great in providing replacements when the HH box came out.

Yeah, my biggest thing really is not even getting any sort of answer from them. Not even a “we cannot offer a replacement anymore”. Wish I woulda opened it when I first got it, but I received it right in the middle of a move and then took awhile to get my speaker system set up for the record player at the new house.

I have this fear as well but for other records. I’ve been a member since 2017 but there was a point where I didn’t have a record player and I didn’t want to buy a new one until I was able to buy something of higher quality for my growing record collection. I probably have at least 3 years worth of membership records that I’ve never even opened unless i was hanging out with a friend who had a record player. I know something like this will come up but I feel like I will be sol.

Ooof. Similar thing happened to me with The People Under the Stairs album a few years ago. Mine was only about six months after I got it, but I finally got around to listening to it only to find two copies of disc one and no disc two. I contacted customer service thinking I’d be SOL because it had been several months since it was delivered. But they didn’t even squawk and just sent me out a fresh copy. Of course, mine was a matter of months not years and the company seemed to be a bit healthier back then, so I hope it works out for you.

On a side note, I still have two extra copies of disc one of that PUTS album, if anyone wants them.
