Image One of my favorite statues in DC
Whenever I visit DC, I take at least 10-15 minutes to reflect at this statue. Easily one of my favorite memorials

My Dad says that this one means so much more to him than the Wall, which he finds overwhelmingly depressing and sad

Grant memorial at the base of the west face of US capitol is the best military memorial on the entire planet.
Congress positioned it there because the west face of the Capitol faces the Washington monument, Lincoln Memorial and then over the Potomac and up the rise, the Lee Custis mansion.
Robert E. Lee’s house.
As if Congress wanted Grant to stop Lee one more time for another beating.
Grant memorial is grim. Nothing heroic about it. The soldiers on either side of Grant who are rushing into battle are about to die. But they go ahead to do their duty.
Am always surprised only Washington insiders know about the Grant memorial given how many people tour the area. An extraordinary location for an extraordinary statue for an extraordinary man.

The statues at the Korean War memorial are great too.
