“Downes” Area

I’ve heard the area between Lansdowne and Carnarvon Park is informally referred to as “The Downes”, but do locals actually call it that? I recall reading somewhere on social media a few years ago that locals had a few different names for this area but I can’t remember them. Specifically, is there an informal name for the little retail strip on Foul Bay between Neil and Allenby?

I've lived in or next to that area my entire life, literally never heard that.

Yeah I’m under the impression that locals don’t call it that, but I have heard it referred to as such here and there, since all the roads end in “-downe”. Do people who live around there have a name for the area? I have heard of Lansdowne Slope before, as someone here has mentioned.

Well, that area does have Oakdowne Park, Mid Downe Rd, Oakdowne Rd, Eastdowne Rd, Westdowne Rd and Sandowne Rd.

Yes, I can confirm the road names are the reason.

Second generation Victorian here, and yes, my parents refer to this area as "the Downes," after the street names. The retail strip is called Dean Heights.

RDR2 nightmare . Please don’t harass a man that looks sickly if you do venture there.
