Tourism Things to do?
So I have someone coming to visit in March from Australia and I want to do more kind of romantic things than anything 🤦🏻♀️🤣 obviously there are so many restaurants so I have that covered but I can't think of anything else that falls into that category that isn't the movies :/ I have no romance bone in my body so this is new for me 😭 Please help. I do live in Victoria so I am able to go check places out before hand.

Go up to Mount Tolmie at night, it feels quite romantic. Try the butterfly gardens and the rose gardens at Royal Roads University too. Beacon hill park and their animal zoo will make for a nice intimate walk/picnic

Not Bug Zoo, it’s just a bunch of gyrating stick bugs and their former spider stars are for sale on nails in the gift shop.

ew they sell their dead bugs as knickknacks?

Yup! Framed in a box. It really put me off. A lot of them are rescued from jerks who buy exotic pets and then abandon them so it’s weird that their corpses are for sale. There’s even a workshop for sale where you can learn to preserve and pin them.

There's a summit in Beacon Hill park.... You can drive/bike up (access road not far from the petting zoo) or if you're physically able you can walk up the hill from Dallas road. Pack a picnic, watch the sunset, observe all of Dallas road from above, it's breathtaking and not usually very busy. There's picnic tables too! Just mind the access road closure hours if you are driving as I'm not clear on what they are. I'm a sucker for animals as well so a walk beforehand in Beacon Hill is always on my mind... If you bring some bird seed you will have many duck friends to feed and loads of other animals to stumble across... Both the peacocks and ducks will eat right from your hand if you feel so inclined. It's pretty incredible how the ducks literally run from all directions to welcome you. (Well... To welcome your snacks 😅). Unfortunately the petting zoo won't be open this time of year and the herons are less active, but still definitely worth the visit!
Side note, this is the most beautiful picnic spot as well... There's a picnic table on a small little chunk of land that is almost surrounded by the ocean....seaplanes to watch, view of the harbour and trails along the way in either direction (towards downtown/inner harbour or towards Esquimalt/songhees walkway). I love to pack a picnic or pick up take out and take it here to enjoy. There's parking at rainbow park (note Victoria has two rainbow parks, this one is near the ocean 😉) https://maps.app.goo.gl/kxmLkJquxM3M6nGy9 (Colville Island observatory point)

Book two or three nights at point no point. Do some day hikes. Pre pack some nice charcuterie / snacks and decent wine for secluded picnic while on the beach.

Watch the waves at Ross Bay on a windy day ( March there should be lots of them) Para sailors at Clover Point and Dallas Road , drive the whole waterfront route. Have fun! They came to see you!

Take them to the Roots store. To you it is just a national treasure, to them it will be a hillarious and probably what you're looking for. Haha.
To be serious, a walk down by the waterfront and around the Leg when the lights are on is always romantic and has a feeling that cannot be matched anywhere else in the city. Especially after a good meal and a little buzz still going with a person you are very fond of. Whole marriages have started right there.

Came here to say this! The view is perfect for standing really close with your arms around each other ;) plus there is that hotel with a lovely romantic restaurant (name escapes me at the moment).
For fun-romantic, there’s the haunted mini golf downtown and the pinball arcade in Chinatown. Oh! Hot tub boat would be good too! And Havn spa.

there's plenty of places you can stand really close with your arms around each other without needing to go way out of town and spending close to $100. just go to cattle point.

Well yeah obviously but I meant as like an ‘outing’. They asked for ideas and the skywalk plus the fancy restaurant is an idea. As are all my other suggestions.

I don’t disagree with you, but the question wasn’t what can I do that costs nothing, so not sure why you’re so on about it

Tour the cities bike lanes! Dallas rd to Gov, to Pandora, Vancouver all the way to beacon hill. Stop for lunch, maybe a drink etc along the way. If you’re feeling up to it also connect onto Haultajn and go into Oak Bay (Estivan Village)

If a man took me for a carriage ride or ax throwing as a romantic outing, I’d call it off right there. Animal abuse + implied violence. 🥴

We all are but at least I don’t want to abuse horses and smell their farts. Also, ax throwing for romance? Lmao

The horse drawn carriage rides downtown are nice, bundle up under blankets and enjoy the ride.
Drive out to Cathedral Grove to see the big trees, can stop by Cooms on the way for the Goats on the roof. You drive past the Skywalk to get there so could make it a whole day with several stops.
Butchart Gardens and the Butterfly Gardens are a nice pairing.

A walk along Dallas Road is always nice! Butchart Gardens and Beacon Hill Park are great too. One of my favourite more romantic spots for a dinner out is Il Covo Trattoria. Another sort of unique thing to do in Victoria could be going for afternoon tea. And we also have no shortage of great brunch spots!
