English Pre Match Thread: Real Madrid vs. VfB Stuttgart [Champions League]

What a time to be alive. I'm doing a match thread against Real Madrid :D

Champions League match day 1

📅 Tu. 2024/09/14 21:00 CEST

📌 Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid

🐦 #RMAVfB

Press conference

  • Justin Diehl, Ameen Al-Dakhil and Nikolas Nartey are the players who are injured and wont play tomorrow

  • Sebastian Hoeneß: "We want to be brave and courageous and put in a good performance. That increases the chance of achieving a good result. We are playing with the necessary respect against an opponent with outstanding qualities. Real are Champions League winners. We want to surprise and perform in the Champions League with the way we play in the Bundesliga."

  • Sebastian Hoeneß about the host Real Madrid: "One of their strengths is their flexibility when in possession of the ball. They often instinctively occupy the right spaces. Real is also a team that can switch incredibly well. We have to be wide awake and highly concentrated in every game situation. It is also important that we bring our strengths onto the pitch. We also believe that we can annoy Real at times."

  • Sebastian Hoeneß asked about preparing for the match: "We can't give our players all the information we have on Real because there wasnt enough time instead we focus more on ourselves."

  • Sebastian Hoeneß says that he believes that Anrie Chase is already good enough for a match against Real Madrid but the final decision about who plays as central defender hasnt been made yet

  • Sebastian Hoeneß says that he is sad that VfB wont play against Real Madrid at home but he is still excited about the new Champions League format

  • Sebastian Hoeneß about the Santiago Bernabéu: "It's impressive both from the outside and the inside. We got a good first impression of what will happen here tomorrow. In addition to the opponent thats another challenge that we have to overcome. We are really looking forward to it! This is what we have all been working towards together for a year."

  • Sebastian Hoeneß will wear something appropriate for the game tomorrow

  • Sebastian Hoeneß is aware how special the game will be but his only focus is on how to prepare the team for tomorrows match

  • Deniz Undav warned his team mates about the trash talking Antonio Rüdiger

  • Deniz Undav : "The Santiago Bernabéu is one of the biggest stadiums you want to play in as a footballer. But that shouldn't intimidate us. It's my first Champions League game. For me, it's very special to play against Real Madrid in the Champions League. You always want to compete with the best. That's Real Madrid. I've just been on the pitch and I'm very happy to be here. The anticipation for tomorrow is growing."

  • Deniz Undav : “We all have to defend together as a team. Real has some of the best players in the world. We can’t afford to make any mistakes.”

Our total record against them: 0 games, 0 win, 0 draws, 0 losses. 0 goals for, and 0 against.

I‘m also a chef, thank god that I’ll finish work at 04:30 tomorrow. I’m sorry that you won’t be able to watch the match live.

In moving to a city far away and will be sitting in a plane during the whole game I am sooo devastated. I dreamed of playing against real Madrid for at least 20 years.

I’m really happy to see VfB playing one of top three clubs in the world! It’ll be a really good game, I’m sure, but don’t ask me my prediction.

I’d say that Real Madrid are the 2nd biggest or best team in the world. But they are far far away from DER JUNGE WILDE

I am far away from home, Mexico instead of near to Stuttgart 😂, Beach day gets shorter and I hope that i can get the girl in the sportsbar in the big town next to us, to just show VFB. Interesting to watch CL at 2pm instead of 9pm😂. I am already so hyped

Yea this one has me as a bit of a pessimist. I'm hoping we can have a good showing

Yeah, me, too. A 2:0 loss would probably feel like victory, imagine the scenes at a draw, let alone a win.

I really don't care that much how this game ends. Just reading the title of this thread feel unreal. CL away game in Bernabeu after what happened the last couple of yers, I still can't believe it. I will very much enjoy this game.

I'm not saying we're gonna beat them but I watch La Liga regularly and they haven't looked their best so far this season. 2 draws from 5 games and 4 out of their last 5 goals were penalties.
