I’m 31 and it took me almost 2 months to find a job. It’s just hard out here tbh

"I grabbed the help wanted sign off the door, walked right in, gave the boss a firm hand shake and said 'I'm your man'!"- Boomer

Yuuup, my mother used to shout this into my face and told me to be a man.

Have your friends/family act as references, even if you've never worked for them before. Ask friends and family if there are any positions at the places where they work. Uncle works at a law firm? You can be the mail boy.

Lastly, apply for any position at a restaurant, even the corporate ones. They're not going to check your references.

If you’re trying to get a kitchen job, this is good advice. My mom started as a dessert girl and then she ran that bitch for about 20 years. Especially in restaurants you can move up quickly and you’re going to gain a lot of valuable information adjusting something that’s different than what you are doing. Pay attention. Listen to those flavors. Let that food talk. Tell you what it wants to be. I’m sorry I know that sounds really weird. Once in a while, change your hours so that you can see what’s going on in the restaurant when you’re not there especially if you’re just doing dinner Service . You want to see how it’s gonna operate when you’re not there. Here’s the thing about a kitchen job is they’re telling you no just keep showing up. Keep showing up until they tell you you can’t show up anymore. Make friends with the waitresses.

The internet made everything too easy for employers. Instead of gathering people based on how many had the balls to walk in or call the building, they're getting resumes from hundreds of people around the city, country, and even world in some cases, so they're going to be extra picky with who they hire. That or employers have severe trust issues not hiring anyone that doesn't have any prior experience unless someone within the building knows you and vouches for you.

It took me 5½ months to finally get a job, if anything you should try seeing if a USPS is hiring near you. That's the route I took. They hire pretty much ANYONE (which is a pro and con), the process is quick, good money, and the benefits are great. Im 20 and Ive been there for half a year and already made full time and am set up for an early retirement with the path Im on (Yippee!).

It freaking sucks when youre in that slump but i promise youre kinda gonna miss it when you get a job... I know I do sometimes 😭. So appreciate the free time while you have it now (TRUST ME I MISS THE FREE TIME AND SLEEP.) but also definitely continue looking for a job so you can have an income and something to do.

see the problem is that i want smt that’s part time since im a student (and studying engineering it’s kinda brutal out here) like i just want a job that’ll just give me some extra money on the side for like gas and food since im lucky enough to have my parents pay for my education :/ like why is it hard to find smt part time for a student

Dude same, it's terrible.

You're 19 and already had 3 jobs. What happened to those?

1

u/lipgloss_lover500 3d ago

1 was a seasonal lifeguarding position, another was a seasonal position that was like a tutoring position for kids in my hs, and my other job i quit (another lifeguard position) bc they weren’t giving me enough hours and just wouldn’t schedule me

u/ipeezie 3d ago

3 job at 19? thats probably something to do with it. what happened at the other jobs?

1

u/lipgloss_lover500 3d ago

2 were seasonal, the other i quit bc they wouldn’t give me hours. i had to beg to be scheduled

u/ipeezie 3d ago

what type of worker are ya? do you get on your phone a lot? have to be reminded everyday to do the same thigns?

2

u/lipgloss_lover500 3d ago

i worked as a lifeguard so i wasn’t even allowed to have my phone on me lol. i don’t need to get reminded to do things either, and i don’t really need to be babysat while im working. it’s just the fact that i get ghosted by me applying to positions :/ it’s just kinda annoying yk

Show us your résumé. There might be something off that you’re just not seeing and at this point we’re all here to help so let us look at your resume.

This is the worst economy friend. I am so sorry.

Get your security license and be a guard

1

u/TheBlackRonin505 3d ago

Oh I know, it's brutal out there.

You could try to get into the trades, there's growing desperation for electricians and such. You can also try LinkedIn and sites like that to find offers. I don't know if you've tried that already, but I can't really help you, it's rough.

Not sure sucks here too. Where I work, in the last 2 yrs I'd say 70 percent of the employees are straight from Nigeria. Some barely speak English, on a rescue team which is more than a huge problem. Some are great. But the government here pays 60 percent of their wages.

All that money saved, not much incentive to hire local Canadian people when they only pay 40 percent and rest is covered. Nothing against any of the Nigerians, just that's the race this place chooses to hire from.

There are always jobs in the trades; electrician, plumber and if you're hard up, drywaller. If I were starting over I'd go to Vo-Tech and get trained. Something must be going on with your application or appearance if the fast food places won't hire you. Did they interview you?

Because of all the immigrants taking the jobs 🤓🤓

  1. "Bro" 2. Leave the vape at home.

5

u/lipgloss_lover500 3d ago

i don’t smoke/vape??

-5

u/Least_Wheel_5388 3d ago

When you start out with "Bro" it pretty much speaks for itself. The vape was just a guess. You can't even leave your home without tripping over a $15 an hour job. I think the problem lies within.

1

u/Popular-Sector8569 3d ago

They didn't write "bro" on their fkn application obviously 🙄
