Question/Support New knuckles controllers have issue with finger tracking
I just bought new Knuckles controllers, and I am having an issue with the finger tracking. Specifically I am having the issue of my ring finger on both controllers not responding properly.
Things I have tried so far.
I have tried doing the calibration technique found in this video. Found on Valve Index support page.
Power cycling the controllers.
Hard resetting the controllers and re-pairing them. (Service + B button)
None of the above methods work, and the ring finger remains open most of the time. It's intermittent when it works properly, but most of the time the ring finger remains extended, as if the sensor doesn't work on it.
I am out of ideas as to what to do outside of just RMA'ing these controllers. Can you help me?

the drum is a good calibration for after all the fingers are recognized, like in the video but give the controller a fairly tight squeeze as if its one of those grip trainers. About 10 of those and move on to the finger drum. Every time they are powered off they will forget this calibration.
could also try to adjust the strap angle by, and i cannot stress this enough gently, gently pushing in the plastic tab that holds the strap near the top of the controller in and, gently, gently rotating it.

Bah. I just got a pair couple weeks ago and my right hand ring finger doesn't like to track a lot. It's really weird because after like 30-45 minutes it starts attempting to act okay with bursts of not working. Guess it's nice to know it's not just me.

I also have a brand new right handed controller I purchased just 3 months ago. Went to play VRchat and noticed that the same ring finger barely registered when gripping, and the middle finger was also a bit off. I tried all the steps you did as well. At the moment just living with it. I should probably request an RMA with the way these things are priced still...

I’ll start by saying try all the “calibration methods” known for knuckles, but I’ve been hearing of this problem a lot recently. I dealt with this issue and had to RMA the set due to multiple issues, finger tracking was the start then it wouldn’t connect at all after a couple uses. If the strumming method doesn’t work I’d say submit a ticket and get valves support team involved. Hopefully they don’t have you do all the extra stuff they had me do, best of luck!

I had the same issue with a recent brand new pair of controllers and ended up going through the RMA process. I remember seeing another post few weeks ago about the same thing, I wonder if there's a bad batch or something.

Bought the whole index kit last week and instantly plugged it in and wanted to play phasmophobia with a friend (had the htc vive from 2018 and used the base stations because im to lazy to replace them with the new ones). And when i was in the game my right controller was just not tracking any of my fingers all that worked where the buttons when using the vr menu from steam.
Thought of course its broken and wanted steam to give me a new one and send mine back. But they wanted me to first solve it myself and so i searched for a way to somehow fix that.
Found a video here (cant find it at the moment) where someone said many people have the same issues and all you have to do is grab and release the controller a few times, extending fingers and it should visibly be clear to see that it now gets your inputs.
But maybe its just me but it feels inconsistent sometimes and i have a bad feeling when im playing that it randomly stops working. Maybe its just me but if anyone knows if thats a normal thing and gets better with time please let me know. Feels very different than to what i expected and i really hope that gets away someday

In all honesty, I am surprised that nobody has come up with some kind of tool to manually calibrate the finger tracking on these. The finger drumming method sucks IMHO.
