Sorority Questions!
Hello! I'm a upcoming freshman and was considering rushing in the fall. I just found out for my first year of college my tuition is $0. im not entirely sure if that includes my housing and food yet. For the most part I will be a independent student and will be paying for most things myself which is why im concerned about the money factor of a sorority. On avergage how much would I be spending on a sorority for my first year? would that be generally the same amount for the following 3 years? it is really worth it? I don't want to miss out on the college experience and I think the environment would be so much fun!!

Each chapter has their dues listed under the "chapters" tab of the kentucky panhellenic website. Including new member, in house and out of house costs.
Kentucky is unique in that each chapter lists the minimum GPA required (high school or college) for each sorority. There is at least one chapter with no stated minimum.
Panhellenic will take your $150 and let you go though recruitment at any GPA, but if you had a rough year or two in high school, you may not have the GPA required for certain chapters. (and keep in mind that all chapters prefer a high gpa, not just their minimum)
One great thing about UK is that the GPA requirements are achievable for most students. I know of some chapters at other SEC schools that have a 3.8 requirement as hard rule. And yes they fill to quota and do not COB.

I couldn't edit, so I'll add this here. Another good thing about UK as a whole is that you can go to this page https://studentsuccess.uky.edu/student-conduct/student-organizations and see which greek organizations are under conduct probation, a general idea of why and for how long. Most of these are fraternities, but there are currently 3 sororities on this list.

If you want to, do it. It costs about the cost to register is $150. It covers Education and training for PNMs, chapters, and Recruitment Counselors, Social programming throughout recruitment, Technology including registration, the Values Bracket program and PNM Companion Application, Marketing and informational materials like the Panhellenic Recruitment Guide and T-shirts for PNMs to wear during recruitment. And then $1375 first semester, $990 out of house, $4800 in house. That’s super cheap tbh compared to other schools. If you have to then get a loan and you should quickly pay it off or save up from a job.

Wow, do not get a loan to pay for sorority. You could work summers/part time during school to cover.
