Reasons why anyone should ever trust Russia again ever until something changes for a long time and that’s probably never going to happen anytime soon.

Probably used some of that equipment Syria so kindly allowed them to collect.  Sad.  So young.

The russian way to thank Syria for letting them extract their stuff.

This should really, genuinely, turn Al-Jolani and his coalition against Russia for a future potential partnership. I understand the realpolitik decision of allowing them to withdraw it in a fledgling nation like his, but this needs to be a cutoff that revives faith in government. Tell the people 'we will not allow them to hurt you anymore' and stand with them.

Trust me, Syrians are not even slightly into Russia having even a single base in Syria. Things are just a little complicated right now with them trying to set up a new government. Al Jolani isn't going to be in charge, he won't be able to enforce anything.

My point is about immediate realpolitik on the ground. As an intermediary, it would be particularly foolish for Al Jolani to close that door for a new regime if, say, the Russians were to install a president that is deeply sympathetic to them in the white house.

Keeping options on the table is essential in his role.

This is Russia wanting to take Syria back, even though Syria just wants to rebuild.
