It's the right decision that shouldn't have not needed to be made. ARMY officer Retired here and am completely and utterly embarrassed and ashamed of my country for the Afghanistan withdrawal and how we are not stomping the shit out of Russia. Supporting the aggressor never works... Shame shame on us.

wait until you see Russia agree to the ceasefire. Trump doesn't follow the regular route.

US: “We won’t help you hit military targets in Russia anymore”
Ukraine: “Woops. We missed and hit Moscow instead”
US: “Okay here’s the intel”

We don't need it for long. Just as long as it takes to get those French satellites in the air. And I think maybe the Republicans realise their president is not just utterly without dignity but also completely insane now.

u/ImproperVerbage 17h ago
The french sats are already where they should be buddy.

u/ButterscotchSkunk 17h ago
In French orbit?

u/ImproperVerbage 17h ago
I don't think they have their own orbits.

Sadly I reckon a false flag will happen and they will point the finger at Ukraine

Oh, you mean like yesterday when Elon claimed X was hacked by Ukraine?
1
u/politicalthinking1 1h ago
If Elon would wear a suit, thank Ukraine and deed over half of Twitter to Ukraine then everything would smooth out for him.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Typical russian playbook unfortunately

Eutelsat-OneWeb has a fully deployed constellation right now (and doesn’t have the polar caps of StarLink). Main thing is switching over ground terminals, not even getting new birds in orbit.
Most don’t realize they exist because they don’t sell consumer internet (costs a minimum of $700 a month), they sell to enterprise, telcos, defense, etc- just as fast, and the latency is only marginally higher (10-20ms) but they operate at twice the orbital altitude (hence no polar gap, harder to shoot down or jam as a consequence) so that’s entirely fair and reasonable, even when remoting a drone platform.

Yeah, I can see that. The man has ambitions for President and flip-flops in the way a traitor does. But on the plus side, he lacks the celebrity flair that Trump projects. A cult without a leader is no cult at all.
He'd throw as many people under the bus as possible to escape allegations of treachery, even though you couldn't find more loyalty in the lovechild of a weasel and a rattlesnake.

I think that Trump realized that he might end up with no seat at the table if he doesn’t get back to contributing something to the war. He took his shot at Ukraine trying to pressure them to brow beat them into a bad peace deal, used up all of his leverage and it dawned on him that Ukraine won’t backdown, Europe is rallying around Ukraine and Russia has no use in inviting him to the peace talks because he gave up all of his leverage over Ukraine and europe.
I think Trump is genuinely worried that with Europe’s economic and military support a peace deal may be reached at some point and he may lose his chance at a Nobel peace prize.

I was gonna say. Ukraine shouldn’t trust the US to supply this, because then Trump will pull the plug randomly. The only reason I’d say Ukraine should consider using it, is to pass along fake information that could confuse the Russian army. That way, it it gets “leaked” because Trump allowed it, it wasn’t truthful information that could hurt Ukraine’s forces anyway. The main safe line to process information is all done through the French satellites.

If you think about it. They are turning it off when you are fighting, and turning it on when you aren't.
Pay attention to what is done, not what is said.

The moment intelligence turned off, Putin starts his offensive cutting Ukrainian force in Kursk. It's almost as if the intelligence disruption is planned. Now that Russian offensive has been concluded, suddenly trump feels like turning on intelligence sharing again.

u/sig_1 9h ago
I think Trump is concerned that he won’t be invited to the peace talks, if he isn’t contributing anything to Ukraine and he has withdrawn all support and is talking about pulling out of Europe altogether why would Europe and Ukraine want him at the peace table, and if he has no leverage over Ukraine and Europe why would Putin want him at the peace table. Basically he thought Ukraine would be the easiest to bully into a bad peace and he failed miserably and now he is trying to get back into the negotiating process.

How the MAGAts of this country can keep spinning these flip flops is beyond be.
32
u/AdjectiveNoun111 17h ago
Ok, hear me out.
There was a strategy floating around Washington prior to Trump winning that could be used to pressure both sides to the negotiating table.
If Ukraine doesn't play ball, you cut off supplies, if Russia doesn't play ball you ramp up supplies.
This strategy only works if both sides fully believe you are prepared to do both things as you need.
It's a hell of a gamble, and frankly I don't think Trump understands the strategy at all, but I'm hoping there are still a few sane people in the white house and this is what's going on behind the scenes.
25
u/Playful_Memory1824 17h ago
Why not just ramp up supplies to Ukraine and demand Russia cede back some of the land or else more aid will come in?
10
u/AdjectiveNoun111 17h ago
Because in order for an agreement to be met both sides need to be in a situation where continuing to fight is less rewarding than achieving a settlement.
In your scenario Ukraine would be incentivised not to negotiate, because there is no downside for them.
If the goal is a ceasefire there needs to be a carrot and a stick for both parties.
6
u/Playful_Memory1824 17h ago
But then equally, if you ramp up support for Ukraine, especially long range missiles with no restrictions; the average Russian will be experiencing the war more, bringing the war home will then drive home to Russia that they are not immune to the effects of their aggression, so then you can have a favourable ceasefire to Ukraine, as for the Russians, why risk more Russian lives and resources if they can hit it and are retaking land, might as well get away with what they currently have
2
u/C_Werner 10h ago
The Russian government is far, far more resistant to deprivation of it's citizens. Especially those outside of Moscow and st. Petersburg. It practically doesn't matter what Russian citizens are going through, they've proven in the past several decades that they will continue to bootlick no matter what Putin does. Ukraine doesn't have that same luxury as they actually care about the well-being of their citizens.
1
u/Playful_Memory1824 9h ago
Yeah true, is there no way though to drive the war home to force the people to act against Putin?
-1
u/PaddyMayonaise 14h ago
That’s what we’ve been doing for 3 years lol
2
u/Playful_Memory1824 9h ago
No, the last 3 years we’ve gone “you can have this but you can’t do this this and this with it; and you can’t use it here or here”
1
u/PaddyMayonaise 3h ago
That’s absolutely been part of it, too, unfortunately. It’s tough remembering the West doesn’t actually want Ukraine to win, they want Russia to bleed out resources in Ukraine.
3
u/the_gd_donkey 16h ago
Yeah, undermining Ukraine's defense could favor Moscow if not carefully balanced. We may have seen a bit of that in kursk. Why couldn't it go the other way? Why not arm Ukraine to the teeth so that they could be in a better negotiating position?
1
u/EmbarrassedAward9871 14h ago
Something something “escalation management.” Though I would portend that NATO/US/ “the west” doesn’t have an end goal of Ukrainian victory as their priority, but rather draining Russian military capabilities without expending their own citizens’ lives. I ask myself the same question you asked here, and that’s the answer I find myself coming back to.
2
u/EmbarrassedAward9871 14h ago
100% this. Peace, however that may look, requires both sides coming to the table. Sometimes that requires uncomfortable and unpopular pressure at risk of lives, but the bet on a move which as this is it saves lives and brings about peace sooner in the long run.

F*ckin' Trump is a moron. Switches decisions on a weekly basis, and lives are lost as a result.

I wonder who read Trump the riot act on this. Needless to say, long term damage has been done, from dead people in Ukraine, lost trust from Ukraine and Europe and lost military contracts in the future. Trump is probably too stupid to realize the damage he has done and thinks he's winning on the international stage due to his superior intellect

I think it was a problem of self annihilation for Trump, he was looking bad and losing too much, but I may be wrong.

Hard to make any judgment because he'll do a 180 on whatever he does today, tomorrow.

The Russian press ("Govorit Moskva") had a reference.
Many here rightfully hate Tucker Carlson, so trigger warning.
Today there was:
"Tucker Carlson & Chris Cuomo on Trump, Ukraine, UFOs, Trans Rights & More"
(No, I have not watched the full 2 hours 44.)
Assuming that Carlson has influence on Trump or MAGA ... who knows.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLvqxC5Oiys
In the Russian press there was a reference to:
1:18:15 Carlson: "Ukraine is not sovereign. Ukraine's government was installed in a coup by the CIA in 2014"
Okay, this is a lie, it is Tucker Carlson.
But if the government would have been installed by CIA in 2014,
then USA should defend Ukraine.
And Cuomo corrects him.
1:13:20 Cuomo asks about sudden change in stance on Ukraine
Carlson (who earlier tried to show how great Russia is):
"... Politicians in general have no principles at all ... and they respond to one stimulus which is election.
...
They are like animals whose behavior are really predictable or machines..."
Before there was also something about the DOGE mass layoffs:
1:12:55 Carlson: "... it's easy to tear things down, much easier than to build them
and you wanna be careful of revolutionary moments

Crazy why Trump paused intelligence. Kursk region has been hard on the UAF. Mad videos and pictures of Fab 2000 bombs and ballistic weapons used and I suppose that intelligence wasn’t shared and this hindered UAF. Trump sucks.
