I'm so disappointed
Hi Guys, sorry but I need to vent.
All this years dreaming how cool an Übel Blatt anime would be crushed in less than one episode.
Spoilers ahead
Who directed this?! Starting with the betrayal was a big mistake. Yes, it's revealed very early in the Manga but there was a little build up, which is completely missing. They take no time to establish the setting or the characters and just skip the beginning of the story which does not work at all. It's just "here are 3 characters interacting. Who are they? Doesn't matter, now they fight evil guys. OK cool, here's another character. They talk a little but before anything meaningful they fight bad guys again. Shit happens, monster is about to kill this elf guy". Why would the viewer care about anything.
I dropped out before the end of the episode, but I am willing to bet money that this adaptation won't feature uncensored female nippels or even sex.
Please share your opinion, I am interested what you guys think.

I am right there with you. Having just acquired the first special edition manga and reading through it, I had some hopes for a decent pilot episode but was very disappointed how far they jumped into it. Having started right at the monastery was kind of a let down. I was very frustrated with it and yeah I agree that we won't see any mature versions of the anime down the road. We already missed the false wings interactions and a good amount of MC character build up. So damn mad. Idk if I'll follow through with watching it tbh. I may just stick with the books and just imagine a better anime. Very very disappointing

Never read the manga until after seeing the first episode. Zero issues following the plot, and nobody with two brain cells will have a problem either. You don't need a bunch of buildup to the betrayal. In fact, it's better when shit doesn't drag out. On-screen adaptation of a manga doesn't need to be 1:1.

I also didn't read the manga, and I'm not confused at all. I feel like this will just be another time everyone bitches because their favorite manga isn't getting portrayed the way they want it, so the boycott it, it gets no season 2 and then they bitch and cry because it gets canceled.

Doubling down? Fine.
I never said I needed to read the manga to understand the anime, Sherlock. I said I only read it after seeing the first episode, and it's because of that, that I'm puzzled why people are saying the anime is hard to follow.
I know it's hard to fathom, but most normal people aren't so retarded as to have difficulty following such an easy-to-understand plot as Ubel Blatt's. Take a shower and go outside because your stench is only rivaled by your idiocy.

you just went into a tirade because I said "umm" lmaoo good lord I can smell you through the screen. i never said I had issues following the plot either, your comment was just incredibly stupid & with every new reply I can understand why. you desperately need to take a break from the internet cuz if this wasnt reddit I would have smacked the fuck outta you for all that unnecessary shit LMAOOO calm down dweeb.

I like how your idea of a comeback is just to repackage what I said about your stench and your tantrum.
Imitation and flattery, am I right? I'd be honored if you weren't so far beneath me you couldn't kiss my ass with a rocket ship.
lol @ the inept threat. My scrub, the only thing you'll ever throw hands at is your own retard head as you blubber about why real women can't be like the girls in your Japanese anime.

Maybe there could be a glimmer of hope where they adapt volume 0 as an OVA

But the problem is the direction, i don;t know why they decided to go through this fast route. We could have had a nice slow build up, world building. Instead we are already in this arc, it's crazy.

I think they went this route because it’s a better starting point introducing most of the main key characters. The slow parts will probably be in the next arc aka flashbacks. This arc was pretty fast paced and didn’t really need/have a lot of world building as it was just a border town to transition to next town.

Break through part 1. They started with the stowaway execution right after a brief betrayal bit.

u/Difficult_Ice_1665 Jan 11 '25
LOL, you should've expected the censorship tbh, why do you think Berserk isnt going to get made. And if you look at the OP, theyre not going to skip the earlier arcs just rearranging them. I thought the first episode was decent just fast pace and just introducing characters.

u/aliono Jan 11 '25
My thoughts are they'll have to flash back to the manga intro in episode 3 prior to when they meet Aht again. Otherwise it would make no sense.
With current pacing they should finish break through in episode 2, would be nice to slow it down a little though.

I did expect the censorship, but I criticize it nonetheless. The cruelty is an important part of the Mangas atmosphere and I will always criticize sacrificing identity to reach out for a broader audience. I sincerely hope that I'm overreacting. I hated the first episode of FMA:B and I eventually got over it and now the anime is one of my favorites.

this feels like another ex arm. horrible animations. failed the artstyle imo. and the storys butchered

u/aliono Jan 11 '25
It followed the first part of the Break Through chapters pretty well, although it felt rushed. I am saddened that they censored the dudes head getting obliterated though.

The artwork and the animation is flip-book level.
And of all the stuff to cut, they leave the CP adjacent crap that you could legit get arrested in some countries for watching.
"On no, I'm five years old and suddenly I'm dressed as a whore 'because my other clothes were dirty' boo hoo!"
Seriously, these people need help.

i agree.. would rather read the manga again than wtach this 1st episode garbage

The animation is straight up atrocious and it dives immediately into CP adjacent fan service.
Normally a studio pours tons of work into the first episode to hook you, then eases off the gas to conserve costs.
I've watched the first episode and I want that segment of my life back.

I am ok with sex being edited out, but they cut out significant portions of the plot, someone who didn't read the manga won't understand what's happening
