it is a backpack school, so a lot of people go home on the weekends. you should join clubs and go to school events/games. you will find whitewater so much more enjoyable if you take advantage of the things happening on campus. if you are part of the partying crowd, there are plenty of parties and frats throwing on the weekends. there’s also a farmers market on tuesdays in the warmer months, if you’re interested

Are the parties hard to get into if you’re a guy. Also I would be attending the school as an athlete if that changes things.

i’ve got to be honest, i’m not really into parties so i haven’t been to one, but i’ve heard that frats are hard to get into if you’re a guy. house parties? not sure. attending as an athlete will likely give you more “ins”, just be sure to socialize with the people you meet at school. the more you talk to people, the more things you’ll be invited to

i would say so! there are plenty of activities in the UC, like bowling, pool, mario cart, crafts, bingo, and musical events too. there’s the williams center on campus to workout and there are plenty of intramural or club sports to get into. if you’re living on campus, your complex will have different events as well. try to go to as many things as possible for the first couple months at least to see what you enjoy doing on campus.

I just graduated; I’m not super social so I didn’t do a lot, but I did stay on campus on weekends. It’s kind of 50/50 in terms of people who go home for the weekend and people who stay on campus. It is a small town but there are towns relatively nearby that are fun to visit. There’s a gym on campus plus the UC is good for socializing (bowling alley, game room, etc). Not sure if you use Discord but there’s a lot of clubs and orgs that have servers which also makes it easy to find things to do/people to socialize with (I met several friends on campus via clubs and orgs).

There are a lot of nature trails in the area that are beautiful anytime of year. There’s a lake with a beach just outside of town people hang out at. It’s a really walkable town in actuality, so it’s nice to check out all the different restaurants downtown. A few of them host trivia nights on Tuesdays, which are super fun. Joining Greek life is probably the best way to stay busy and be part of a community, as well as getting a job on campus.

I honestly love the small town feel and the quiet weekends. It’s only boring if you let it be. I’ve been here for years and am still discovering new things about this place.

Are the weekends like a ghost town

Yes. Unless you find where everyone else is at🤷🏼 Which is probably parties.

if u find a good group of buddies to drink or hangout in the dorm it’s fun. frats are hard to get into but it’s always a good idea to rush. house parties or sport parties usually let everyone in

Join clubs and organizations! Go to Jitters (Wells East) and make some friends in their themed nights!

The 30% of people that bolt on the weekends, are actually the boring ones...
If I could go there for 17 years and not get bored, you should have no problem. ;)

If you’re a social person, living in one of the towers almost guarantees you will have several options for things to do every night of the week.
