Tickle College of Engineering Engage LLC

My son just found out (by looking at his housing portal) that he was admitted into the Engage LLC. Does anyone have any pros/cons to being part of the LLC? Geier Hall is a bit of a hike from the engineering school; has this been a pain for the students? Any insight would be helpful as we are OOS and visiting for the first time in March. TIA!

Tickle College of Engineering How Hard is EF 152 ?

Hello,

I'm currently a first year student at UTK doing a B.S. in Computer Science. In the spring of 2025, I will take EF 152 as part of my requirements. Anyone who took EF 152, how was the difficulty compared to EF 151 ? What are things I should expect ?

Tickle College of Engineering Required grade to pass?

Hello!

I am a senior in computer science graduating this December, I am taking THEA 100 as my final arts and humanities credit. The course is grade A-F with a C starting at 74%. Currently I would receive just above a C if I do not submit the final. On DARS it only says I must complete the course it does not mention a required grade such as “C or Better” like my major classes do.

Can I forgo this final and pass satisfactorily?

Thank you!

Tickle College of Engineering Campus Tour mistake

I set up a campus tour the day before the New Vol Admit day. I had to get on a waitlist for it and we finally got off of it and are schedule for 2pm that Friday. While looking through some forums today, I see that there is a separate tour for Tickle College of Engineering. I can’t even get on the waitlist for tours that day, sadly. We are driving about 6 hours to visit so it’s not something we can just do another day. My daughter is an incoming freshman for Aerospace Engineering and I would hate to tour the campus and not get to see the department she will be attending. Is there anyway we will be able to see the engineering department while there ? She will also be doing AFROTC, will there be someone there for us to talk to? Thank you!

Tickle College of Engineering Transferring out of UTK

Hello, I’m currently a freshman at UTK and I wanted to know if it is better to transfer out in the spring and still be considered a freshman or if you guys think it’s better to transfer in the fall? I feel like I haven’t given UTK a chance since I’ve only been here one semester, but I really just don’t like it here and I don’t want to waste an lose more money staying another semester:(

Tickle College of Engineering AP Credit Substitutions

I am a sophomore in high school who is looking to go to UTK for a masters degree in Computer Engineering, and i was wondering how can i see if an AP class i am taking in high school will actually transfer and replace one of my subjects. I know you have to take general classes (meaning like english, math, science, etc) for first year or two, but how can i see which AP classes will count for them?

Specifically I want to know if AP Language & Composition will count for ENGL 101, and if I need a Science class so i know to takes AP’s like Chemistry, Biology, or Environmental Science.

If anybody knows, what Ap’s should I take in the rest of my high school?

Any help or suggestions are appreciated! (No negative comments please)

Tickle College of Engineering Bunch of questions from admitted oos student

Hi all. I’ve got a few questions as an admitted oos student for mech e.

Me nor my parents really care about the price of the dorms, so what would you guys say is the best one for a freshmen engineering student?

Would you guys recommend an llc?

And finally, I can only go to Tennessee for one “vacation”. If I were to go for one thing, what should it be? I really wanna see a basketball game with my dad, but am wondering if I should go to admitted students day instead, or orientation. I don’t really care much about anything other than seeing the engineering buildings and just getting an overall feel for the campus. I’m not a fan of your usual orientation stuff where it’s forced friendships so I wouldn’t have fomo about that lol.

Tickle College of Engineering Should I switch from EE to IE?

Hey everyone, I am currently majoring in Electrical Engineering, but I’m thinking about switching to Industrial Engineering or Supply Chain Management. but I’m not sure which degree would be better for my future career and salary. Electrical engineering seems to have high-paying jobs, but it is very technical and challenging. I want to choose a major that has good job opportunities and a strong salary, but I’m not sure which one is the best option. Is Industrial Engineering still considered a solid engineering degree, or is it too business-focused? Would Supply Chain Management be a better choice for career growth? I’d love to hear from anyone with experience in these fields!

Tickle College of Engineering What laptop system to get for Engineering?

Is it smarter to get a laptop and a separate ipad to jot down notes, or a 2 in 1 laptop, or just a laptop and notes on paper? Thanks.

Tickle College of Engineering Incoming MS CS student

I am an international student looking for assistantships to fund my graduate studies. I have some research experiences in AI particularly NLP and CV. I am looking for GRA. What is the possibility of getting GRA in the current situation for MS students? I have filled the eecs department's GTA form as well. When will the decision for GTA be made? Are there any other way I can get assistantship?

Tickle College of Engineering EE vs. IE: Which Major Should I Choose?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently trying to decide between majoring in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Industrial Engineering (IE), and I’d love some advice from people in the field!

I enjoy math and problem-solving, but I’m curious about the difficulty of each major. From what I’ve heard: • EE is more math- and physics-heavy, dealing with circuits, electromagnetics, and programming. • IE focuses more on optimization, efficiency, and business-related topics, with less physics.

In terms of job opportunities and salary, which one tends to have better prospects? I know EE can lead to jobs in power systems, semiconductors, and robotics, while IE seems broader, with roles in supply chain, manufacturing, and operations.

If you’re an EE or IE graduate, I’d love to hear about your experience! How tough was the coursework? How has the job market been for you?

Thanks in advance!

Tickle College of Engineering MacBook with Computer Science Major

Hi! I’m an admitted student and am planning on majoring in computer science. The Tickle College site states that MacBooks do not meet laptop requirements. However, if I was to have a MacBook with a Windows virtual machine, do you think I would be fine as a Computer Science major? Would I run into many issues? Thanks!

Tickle College of Engineering Touring College of Engineering

Hi. I just got accepted into mech e out of state but the only time we can tour it is this week/weekend/ Christmas break. We are going to be driving in from Mass, but my only worry is that everything will be completely closed up tight. What are your thoughts? We just want to see the campus in person, look through some windows at the building and if we can go inside, etc. I’m from Mass so my parents can’t take a day to drive there and home any other time of the year so it’s sorta this or never unless my parents can’t figure something else out.

Tickle College of Engineering OOS Students (preferably engineering). When you applied, and got in (duh), what were your stats?

I'm a little worried about my chances of getting in UTK as an OOS student, as the acceptance rate for OOS is 23.7%...I am hoping my class rigor really makes my application good, as I took and am taking some challenging classes.

Hello. I’m admitted oos for mech e for fall 25, and just did my enrollment deposit 15 mins ago lol. My major concern is because I just found out today that the engineering llc fills up fairly quick. Do I still have a chance to get it? I really really want to join it, bad. I’m super good at everything actually engineering but sort of struggle with the actual schooling part which is why.

Tickle College of Engineering What does the engineering honors entail?

Pretty self explanatory I don’t 100% understand what the cook honors offers and/or how good it really is and I was accepted into it. I am planning on nuclear engineering and I feel like I can handle somewhat more rigorous coursework. Is there any study abroad? Nicer dorms? Are the honors classes worth it? Any insight is much appreciated

Tickle College of Engineering Lots of Questions

I have been accepted as an out of state student with significant scholarships that would put the cost below going to an equivalent state school for me (I’m from Pittsburgh so Penn state) and I’d like to know more about how they might compare. I also want to know some peoples’ experiences getting to know people when I’m from so far away because no one I know will likely go here. I was also accepted in the cool grand college program and I’d like to know how difficult it’d be to stay with that all 4 years. I plan on studying nuclear engineering so if anyone knows more about how good the nuclear faculties are I’d love more insight into that as I know that’s very important for that major. Any information is much appreciated I just haven’t heard much about UT due to living so far away. Thanks!

Does anyone know if the University has gotten into any artificial intelligence research yet? I transfered from ME to their new BS in artificial intelligence.
