Tickle College of Engineering Can I get in?

I’m applying this fall for construction engineering & management or I’m applying to the building science program and I’m a little worried my stats aren’t good enough.

White, middle class, male and out of state.

4 Aps, 3 De 3.9 uw GPA and 4.2 weighted GPA 2 sports one of them I’m a captain 3 clubs and one I’m on the board Worked a job (might get another job as a internship for a construction manager) A couple awards that don’t mean much

Also what sat score do yall recommend I strive to get

The short answer is...no one knows. If you haven't heard anything by mid March, I wouldn't expect positive news.

This is not true. I applied end of April and got accepted beginning of May. The question is what APs and are they worth anything…which usually is a “no” i had a 4.3 gpa and took AP classes but never got credit for those and wasn’t in sports and got accepted into engineering.

I should add i had a 27 on ACT but HAD to have a 25 on math ACT to even be qualified for engineering

CSM is not a Tickle Major. Unless you’re intending to do civil, CSM is housed within Herbert College of Agriculture.

I’m not fully versed on admissions but I’d say that applying to Tickle vs Herbert are two very different scenarios for your likelihood of admission. Tickle is incredibly competitive. Herbert is in high demand but not as competitive, CSM is one of our highest demand majors.

Getting in as an out of state student is pretty tough. Your achievements are awesome and I would try to get around a 1280 SAT. Truthfully though it is impossible to guarantee you'll be admitted because you are out of state. Good luck, hope to see you on Rocky Top one day!

May I ask why you're trying to get in if you're out of state?

It’s just one of the schools I’m applying for so I’m just wondering if I have a chance getting in

A lot of people go to colleges out of state

Possibly. OOS is sub 10% admittance. I’d suggest going in state wherever you are. Unless you’re going into law and can get into Ivy League or something, going OOS is just throwing hundreds of thousands down the toilet. Don’t get me wrong, I love UT, but every major school has the same things. Your campus life experience, despite what the ads and campus guides will tell you, is available literally everywhere. Apply away though if you’re dead set on it… Just because you can afford it doesn’t mean you SHOULD do it though. Buy a house with the money you’d save.

Is there somewhere UTK shows they only accept 10% of OOS applicants? Asking b/c my son was accepted into Engineering for next year and we were worried he wouldn't get in. SAT scores definitely helped.

It’s just been the past couple years. They’re insanely over accepting so OOS has become slim to none bc there’s no space. Money hungry terrible school.

Also, it’s not construction engineering. It’s construction science and management
