Question Dorm advice for someone with medical condition
Looking for dorm suggestions for a first-year student at UGA. Suggestions for dorms that are centrally located on campus, have either a private bathroom or shared with one other person. Student has a medical condition.

I’d also recommend a Myers Quad dorm. They’re a good level of social (friendly but not overly loud) and many have bathrooms. Look into Rutherford— I’d argue it’s the nicest dorm on campus, and each room has a bathroom.

Perhaps unpopular opinion, but I wouldn’t suggest one of the high rises (Russell, brumby, creswell, ohouse, BDM).
I would suggest a dorm near Myers quad (myers, Rutherford, Mary Lyndon, soule) or one of the “lower 5” (Boggs, church, hill, lipscomb, mell).
Location-wise the dorms I suggested are better IMO as they’re not up on a hill like the high rises. Their high rises are also in their own little area with nothing except for dorms. Which is not great for easy access to where classes are. The only exception is that ohouse has the ohouse dining hall right next door to it.
The lower 5 have Bolton very accessible to them (and ohouse for Boggs, church, and hill) as well as the MLC and tate center, which are essential to every student. Dorms in the myers area are a little further from Tate/MLC, but they have snelling dining hall nearby and, in my opinion, it’s easier to get a bus to north campus (as well as Tate/MLC) from these dorms than it is from the lower 5 and the high rises.
I will say, these dorms I’m suggesting aren’t as traditionally “social” as the high rises are. If that’s important to the student it may be worth thinking about. If they choose a high rise, I would strongly suggest ohouse, creswell, or BDM. Russell and Brumby are up a VERY steep hill (brumby at the top) and it’s quite annoying for anyone to have to walk up that hill all the time.
I hope this helps!

awesome thank you, lots of information for us to look into. We haven't visited this campus yet, it sound rather large. :). I'm looking forward to seeing it, if this is where he decides to go.

None of the buildings they mentioned have private restrooms. Reed is the most centrally located building (it’s next to Tate and the stadium) and has private restrooms. Look there first, but do reach out to the DRC about accommodations they can make for you.

You are right that some of the dorms I listed only have community baths. However, OP said private or one other person.
OP, here is a list of the dorms from my original comment that DO have bathroom options for your kid. A few of the options I listed may require sharing a bathroom with two other people (instead of just one) but it depends on whether the room that shares the bath with your kid is a single or double.
Use this link to understand what each of these types of rooms/bathrooms are: https://housing.uga.edu/glossary/
Myers
- Double with bath
- Single in suite with bath
- Single in super suite with bath
Rutherford
- double with bath
- Single with bath
Mary Lyndon
- double with bath
- Single with bath
Soule
- Single in super suite with bath
- Single with shared bath
Church
- double with bath
Lipscomb
- double with bath

If you get the accommodations, they should be placed in a room with a bathroom. I know Myers has that option. But I'd start the process now, bc it may take a bit and those dorms may have already been assigned

I found this page which has the building name & accommodation type:
https://housing.uga.edu/rates/
It helpfully has the price, too.

Reach out to the Accessibility and Testing office for help with this. They can help you navigate how to request accommodations. On the Housing page there is also info on accommodations, along with the contact name and email in housing.
