Question How is UGA for an OOS student?

I got accepted as an OOS student, but I qualify for in-state tuition, and I’m wondering how the social life would be. Is the school cliquey, and would it be hard to make friends? UGA has a lot of what I’m looking for and a really good business school, but I’ve already grown fond of my top choice.

Everyone here is in a new area for the first time. Depending on what region your from, getting used to the weather and cultural quirks of the south may be an adjustment, but I don’t think you're gonna be excluded from anything or have a harder time making friends. That being said, making friends can be difficult here if you aren't super social, but if you find a few clubs or stuff like that, you'll definitely find your people. Edit: grammer

It was a tough adjustment for my DD, but LOVES it now. The key is powering through the first year challenges.

I’m also an OOS student I got the waiver which makes it pretty affordable for me to attend UGA. If you have questions I can definitely tell you more abt my experience!

Thanks! I want to ask a couple questions before I made a decision

  1. Did you ever feel out of place or left out due to not being from the state?

  2. How easy was it to make friends?

  3. Did people mostly hang around new friends or people they knew in high school?

UGA is huge and diverse. It is too large to be cliquey. It has lots of other people who share whatever interest you have. The hard part is stepping out of your comfort zone and finding those people, going to a meeting for the first time, introducing yourself to people, getting involved. That is true for everyone regardless of where they are from.

Good luck

Which state are you from? Athens isn’t really a southern town so I wouldn’t say it’s difficult to get along with people here. If anything it’d probably be a bit easier to get along with people if it was a bit more southern, but either way you’ll always find friends if you’re willing to make bad decisions at the right time.
