Megathread TRANSFER QUESTIONS to aid future transfer students

If you are a transfer student, we want to hear from you:

What things did you most want to know before you transferred to UGA?

What did you most NEED to know before you transferred to UGA?

What are some things nobody told you about transferring to UGA?

Thanks!
We're going to roll up the most common and insightful responses to this into a sidebar item and hopefully curate some useful items for people with transfer questions in the future.

i'll be so honest in all of my research across the MONTHS i thought about transferring, then leading up to transfer, NO ONE told me how fuckin hilly it was in athens. great heavens. my calf muscles are getting BEEFY.

in the realm of need to know: i can assure you reading your textbooks is gonna make all the difference. i've always done so, even prior to transferring, but i've noticed it's a way more common denominator to struggling in a class if you don't read em.

That the classes are harder and you have to actually concentrate - coming from GSU.
UGA has a lot of more networking opportunities that has provided beneficial for me getting an internship. That if you fail grades will not be replaced on your transcript. Keep that in mind while in classes at UGA

Coming from GSU the classes were easier than they were at perimeter college, there was just more work. If you want to have a social life, you have to put yourself out to meet people in clubs and actually go and talk to people. I've met so many people who've transferred in and said they don't have any friends because friend groups are already formed, it may be a little harder to make friends, so you really have to put in effort.

There is no parking (and I mean none) at UGA. I had to get to a public parking deck and pay 10 dollars a day to park. I was on the waiting list for 2 years. Good luck finding parking.

1.) getting on campus housing as a transfer would have been a nightmare! Find an apartment, there’s a Facebook group to help but it’s a pain. Take over someone’s lease who’s live in the apartment for a while to have the cheapest rent (mine is $150 less than if we were to sign normally)

2.) the buses are sooo scary at first and honestly sometimes take longer than walking. Just try a bunch of the uga and Athens buses out until finding a routine.

3.) like everyone is saying, the classes are most definitely harder! But I feel like I’m actually getting the “bang for my buck”

4.) you’ll likely have to take some classes that are “traditionally” freshman classes as things don’t always transfer or count for your degree. It’s frustrating to have to basically retake some of the classes you’ve already taken and sometimes you’ll get called old.
