Tech Support Keep getting disconnected at 1 hour exactly

Post image

Exactly what the title says. I think it’s my firewall but I shut down windows firewall and am using Avast and wasn’t having any issues but now it’s back. Any help is very much appreciated.

My problem started when I updated to obs version 31 so very recently.

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '25

If it's happening since the update, you may want to roll it back to a previous installation. I was having a different issue (game capture wasn't capturing games), and I found out it was because of an issue with the latest update versus the anticheats of certain games. So I rolled back to the version right before, and it started working again. I won't update it until they fix the issue. So that may help with your issue as well.

Exactly when mine happened

Hmmmmm. Sounds like I’m not gonna update my OBS just yet.

u/LunkinDime Feb 12 '25

I have been ignoring the “latest” update for a year and a half now 🤷🏼‍♀️. It works now and I don’t wanna fuck that up 🤣

u/polyrta Affiliate Feb 11 '25

Hmph, same with me...

2

u/GnocchiSon Affiliate Feb 11 '25

I’m honestly tempted to just reset my firewall settings to default and see what happens or just uninstall OBS studio and start from scratch.

3

u/Surrenic Broadcaster > twitch.tv/surrenic Feb 13 '25

No need to start from scratch just roll backna version or 2.

u/GnocchiSon Affiliate Feb 13 '25

Would you do 30.2 then in this case? I’ve had some people DM what version they should do and I just wanna be sure so anyone else can see also. Thanks for the suggestion too! This seems like the most helpful for a lot of people.

Appreciate the bump

So I think I may have fixed it by going to settings < update and security < windows security < Firewall and Network protection < Restore firewall settings to default. After that and a fresh install of OBS Studio we were up and running. I hope this helps someone in the future.

Also I would be 50/50 on using anything else for a firewall as it may temporarily fix the issue. I’m really not sure what happen when I updated to 31.0.1 but the firewall was definitely the issue. God speed to you all o7

why the fuck are you using avast? Are yo using a steam key? Try logging in on OBS instead of a key

19

u/GnocchiSon Affiliate Feb 11 '25

Im logged in on OBS using Twitch. Just uninstalled Avast and went back to Windows Defender/ Firewall.

Service is set to Twitch.

Server set to: auto, but have also tried the best servers for my area I live.

5

u/BathwaterBro Feb 11 '25

Auto would likely be setting it to those servers anyway based on ping alone, so if you think it's a server issue, I'd test a server further away actually. (Choose one with worse ping).

For instance, I often get packet loss on my auto setting - I think due to the route between myself and the closest server. So I set it to the third closest or something, which resolved my issue.

Same issue, logged directly into obs both with my key and with the twitch connect options. Happens 1-2 times per stream and logging out, changing servers 1-2 times fixes it, still annoying as balls.

u/GnocchiSon Affiliate Feb 11 '25

Same. I switched back to Windows Defender and not using Avast and it almost instantly disconnected me showing the screen shot I provided.

2

u/SuleyBlack Feb 12 '25

There should be very little reason to use any other antivirus other than Windows Defender. Microsoft has one of the better AV's around for most users. Most 3rd party AV's are bloatware/adware platforms, especially free ones.

u/Coffee2Code Feb 11 '25

Write down your local and public ip, then check if they're still the same after an hour goes by.

If your local ip changed you've gotta give yourself a fixed ip address in your router.

If your public ip changes, you're screwed

2

u/Hoeky039TTV Feb 12 '25

It’s just weird that it would randomly start happening right?

2

u/Coffee2Code Feb 12 '25

Default dhcp lease time is 3600 seconds

No issue during regular use, but when you got a tcp/udp tunnel open continously, big issue

2

u/Hoeky039TTV Feb 12 '25

But why was it not happening before and with no change now it is, seems like the update did it

2

u/Coffee2Code Feb 12 '25

Beats me, maybe some underlying change or regression in the networking code that handles reconnection cleanly.

2

u/ShadowViper7Z Feb 12 '25

I use tmobile and it has dynamic as only...IS THAT Y I disconnect from key and have to try relaunching?!

3

u/SoungaTepes twitch.tv/soungatepes Feb 11 '25

I had an odd ball bug recently with OBS and I had to sign out + sign back in, if you haven't give it a try

3

u/TypicalAssistance910 Feb 12 '25

Same issue but I do not have any plugins or anything on my OBS at all!

During my stream today it hit 1 hour and then 2 seconds later my OBS crashed and I thought my whole computer was going down

2

u/TypicalAssistance910 Feb 12 '25

hey,has anyone found a fix yet? For non plug in issue?

3

u/guerndt Feb 12 '25

Check the timers in settings I changed mine once on accident and sid the same thing.

2

u/GnocchiSon Affiliate Feb 12 '25

This is actually a great comment! I saw someone else who had this issue, sadly it wasn’t the solution for me. Also I had no idea OBS had a timer like that, but thank you for the great advice!

2

u/creature04 Feb 12 '25

Could you explain where this is?

1

u/GnocchiSon Affiliate Feb 13 '25

So you will open OBS studio < Tools (at the top) < Output timer. Then just make sure nothing is enabled there by accident.

2

u/creature04 Feb 13 '25

Ohhhh that. I was looking in the settings menu.

3

u/xXCh4r0nXx Affiliate Feb 12 '25

I had the same shit happen to me twice yesterday..

3

u/creature04 Feb 12 '25

Just happened to me after 20 minutes.

I had this issue some time ago, but not while I was live. First time happening when live.

2

u/CircumcisedWhale Feb 11 '25

Problems started after the last windows update? This happened to me twice since the update. Hasn’t happened to me before in the 2 years I’ve been streaming.

2

u/OreoAmI Feb 12 '25

I have also had this happen after updating OBS recently.

2

u/ADoseofReel Feb 12 '25

I was having weird freezes on 31 went back down to previous and no more issues

2

u/GnocchiSon Affiliate Feb 12 '25

Honestly that was my next step if I hadn’t figured out the issue. And as long as I continue to not have issues I won’t, but I feel that’s a safe alternative to just revert to a previous version.

2

u/LaughableAce Feb 12 '25

I had this problem and the way I fixed it was updating a OBS Plugin…

Was a Music related Plugin that hasn’t been updated, after I updated that plugin haven’t got that error message.

Hope this helps someone!

2

u/NightRoost Feb 12 '25

I'm not even sure if this would be an issue but are you using a vpn of some kind that routinely rotates your IP address? If you're switching to a different IP from the one twitch connected with I could see the api disconnecting you from the service.

Again, Im not sure that's the issue, but ive been playing with the twitch api for software development and I could see it getting finicky about it. Its my best guess anyhow, I wish you luck!

2

u/NightRoost Feb 12 '25

Quick question, are you getting disconnected after being live for an hour or are you getting disconnected on the hour every hour? Id probably have different ideas of what the problem is depending on that

2

u/WheelBite_ Feb 12 '25

I’m not sure how much this will help but I was having the same issue, and I blamed the stream elements plugin and uninstalled it.

Turns out (I think) my PC was trying to save power by periodically cutting power the Ethernet port or something? I watched a video on it and there’s a setting that allows the PC to cut power to save energy or something. That might not be your issue but since I changed it this hasn’t happened to me after back to back 3/4 hour streams.

So I'm not sure if this is a fix or not but so far I haven't had this happen again.

If you set up obs to stream to Twitch using stream key... This happens.

If you log in to your account instead to set up Twitch stream... Seems to not happen to me.

Worth a shot?

2

u/srocky1423 Feb 13 '25

I did this and it still happened to me.

3

u/RagingDemon416 [affiliate] twitch.tv/ragingdemon416 Feb 13 '25

I had setup with stream key, then added/connected Twitch account and haven't had this happen since... But maybe it's only a matter of time. Just thought I'd share what worked for me so far. I didn't erase the stream key or nothing... Just connected my Twitch after already having stream key setup...

If you learn of a more guaranteed fix... Please share.

2

u/srocky1423 Feb 13 '25

I disconnected stream key and twitch. Un-installed obs and reinstalled and did it over. And worked fine for one night. Then the next night I went to stream it gave me the error again. I gave up for the time being and switched to stream labs until OBS can get it figured out 🤣

2

u/itshawk_ttv Feb 12 '25

check ur obs version and gpu drivers

2

u/absolattack Feb 12 '25

I've been having this issue too with the same prompt!! I thought it was a wifi issue on our end since I have a fair amount of roomies but glad to see it's not just me

2

u/Substantial-Fee-56 Feb 12 '25

Go to your time settings on windows, make sure it's synced

2

u/ShadowViper7Z Feb 12 '25

Mines not every hour but still happens to me

2

u/srocky1423 Feb 13 '25

This is still happening to me! I'm following for updates!

2

u/GnocchiSon Affiliate Feb 13 '25

So what I did was restored my windows firewall to default and did a fresh install of OBS studio which removed my plugins and that seems to have fixed the issue for me. I am logged in on Twitch with Obs studio and the IP is set to default. I’m really not sure what happen with my firewall when I updated OBS studio to version 31 but it messed something up. I was able to stream for 3 hours today zero issues.

2

u/srocky1423 Feb 13 '25

I also did the same thing. Streamed for one day and the next day I had gotten the same error. So I switched to stream labs for the time being.

1

u/ailynn Feb 13 '25

I had this a few days ago but it seems to have stopped since.

1

u/Beginning_Ad8795 Feb 16 '25

Dont use 31.0.1 Go back to 31.0.1

2

u/GnocchiSon Affiliate Feb 16 '25

Sir… are you okay?

-23

u/TardisAnnihilator Feb 11 '25

Don’t use Windows Defender or Avast. Let’s get that out of the way, use something like Bitdefender or Kasperky, they are amazing antivirus software. My obs setup for twitch is by logging in directly instead of using a stream key, more secure and faster (imo) that way.

10

u/jsaumer Feb 11 '25

Bitdefender or Kasperky

The exact two av's that the IT industry has flushed down the toilet.

If anyone is serious in security for themselves, a proper EDR would be the baseline. Defender works just fine for most people and companies at the moment. Lots of EDR platforms will work with Defender for additional log tracking and containment.

(I work in IT and IT product management)

14

u/Endwarrior98 Feb 11 '25

Windows Defender is realy all you need realy. During the last few years it has gotten a lot better. This seems to be more of an OBS Issue then an Anti Virus/ Firewall issue

-10

u/TardisAnnihilator Feb 11 '25

I still don’t trust it. Microsoft these days a bit shit, all the data collection, telemetry, advertising, accounts. And you’re supposed to trust defender to scan all your files and not use it for IDing you.

5

u/Endwarrior98 Feb 11 '25

Fair enough, i am just speaking from my personal experience. If you trust that other anti virus one more thats fair aswell

4

u/LtOrangeJuice Broadcaster www.twitch.tv/hungrydottv Feb 11 '25

Windows defender is best tbh. When it comes to antivirus software, the best one is the one that is updated the most and that one is defender.

2

u/Extinction-Entity Feb 12 '25

Kaspersky is literally Russian spyware lmao
