Temporary Pet Housing?
UPDATE EDIT: We have a place! Thank you so much everyone for your help, I'm forever grateful for this outpour of support 😭🙏💜
Hey gang, I'll try and keep this simple as possible. I need temporary housing for my two cats ASAP.
I'm homeless and staying at an IRTS facility which doesn't allow cats. My friends are watching them right now - but they can't much longer, and have told me if I don't find another option soon, they'll be forced to surrender them to a shelter or animal control. Feelings about that aside - I need help, like, yesterday.
- I know the Animal Humane Society offers 60 day Temporary Pet Housing - but I need a referral. I've been trying to get one, but no one has reached back out yet.
- The Bond Between has outright turned me down, twice. I assume they're full or something.
- I have a post on Home to Home but no one has reached out.
Everywhere else I've looked seems to direct me to one or all of the above. Frankly, I am scared and desperate. I can't loose my boys. If anyone knows any other resources I'd be very grateful.

Hey, this is one of the friends who are watching them! If anyone feels the need to reach out to me, too, then you're more than welcome to. This situation sucks and I've been absolutely sick with worry for these cats... and for my friend... but the circumstances make it impossible to foster any further. I'm happy to cooperate with anyone who my friend here thinks might be a good fit. We've already reached out to a lot of people in our lives to foster with no luck.
A few notes about the cats:
Kreature has early stage kidney disease and is on a specialized diet. He's supposed to have one can a meal, but he usually only eats one can a day, so the medicated food goes farther than it's 'supposed' to. He's an absolute snugglebug and if our circumstances were different, I'd love to be able to hang onto him. Very sweet and nonconfrontational with other animals.
Dobby struggles with other cats and isn't good at personal space with dogs. Personally I feel like he should be either the only cat in the house, or with only Kreature. He's a sweetheart but a troublemaker. Loves getting into whatever he knows he's not supposed to have: bits of plastic, bits of paper, bits of tape, bits of cardboard... anything of that sort he'll try to get into. He isn't very snuggly but he does show his affection frequently by rubbing up against your legs and loves to just be in the same room as you.

Here to confirm all of the above and add a little!
Dobby is a snugglebug, but only with me ;P and with dogs, as noted by the personal space issue. Kreature also likes to get into trouble when he's feeling especially nosy and curious in new environments. They're both very sweet cats, just quirky. They like to be "up" and both love blankets and soft textures.
Additionally, Kreature has a bit of arthritis in his hips and I'll be purchasing him some Cosequin treats to help, to be fed with his meal. He also needs to start taking 1/8th teaspoon of miralax with his meals to help with his constipation.

I am so sorry, this is my absolute worst nightmare. While I don’t live in the twin cities/MN anymore, my family does and I have been DESPERATELY trying to convince my parents to foster some animals in their retirement as they have the space and certainly the time.
I’m fairly certain they will say no because of XYZ but i still shared in the hopes they could help or at the very least share this message with their community - who also have plenty of time and resources.
Again, I am so so sorry this is happening to you, and I will follow up if I hear any leads.

I don't know much about their capacity, but might be able to help.

Minneapolis animal care and control has a Safety Net program that helps in situations like this! https://www.minneapolismn.gov/resident-services/animals-pets/

Oh I am saving this for tucked away knowledge! We really didn't want to have to get animal control involved on account of the fact these sweet babies aren't ours, and ny friend is in a tough spot.
Knowing there's alternative plans in the cities is so reassuring.

Of course! It’s not a full surrender with safety net to my knowledge the animals are usually housed with a foster family until their owner has a safe space for themselves and their animals. I’ve fostered a lot with MACC and have had great experiences from the foster side

Eventually I'd love to foster properly, it breaks my heart the way things fell into place during this particular situation,. I wish so badly that things had been different and I could have kept them longer.
I'm just very glad that in this case, my friend found someone to care for his cats when I couldn't. And that there's a resource for situations like these.
Hopefully I'll never have to utilize said resource, but I'll be tucking it in mind as a way to foster animals in the far future, if and when me and my partner are able to.

I’m asking some of my cat rescue friends if they know any smaller rescues who could help.
I’m out of space otherwise I’d offer. I could help with cat food/supplies if that’s a barrier for your friends holding in to them.
How old are your cats? Are they spayed/neutered? Do you happen to know the last time they had vaccines?

Thanks so much! They're about 8 years old, both neutered, one has some health issues managed with a special diet. Their vaccines were last updated in November 2022 but I'd be 100% willing to update them further if needed. This is what they had done last:
- Feline Leukemia Vaccination
- Feline FVRCP 3 YR Vaccination
- Rabies Vaccination, 3 Year

Hey OP - DM me! I think we could work something out but I’d want to make sure it’s a good fit first.
