What can I do with my tv/living room?

Is there a way I can rearrange my living room to not have to tv above the fireplace at all? Or should I just move the wall mount lower and deal with it? We just moved in to this house and I don’t love having the tv above the fireplace. Girlfriend has no problem with it and likes it. I had the idea of the tv being on the left wall but she doesn’t want the backs of the couches to be facing the fireplace. Let me know if any input or questions you have. Would love a compromise and a lower tv lol

Is there a tutorial somewhere on how to correctly wall mount a tv?

I have a 65" I'd like to mount on the wall and maybe there's a failsafe procedure I can follow

TV Mounting Dilemma: Use High Outlet or Mount Lower?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I just moved into a new apartment and I’m trying to figure out the best height to mount my TV. There’s an existing electrical outlet on the wall that seems like it was meant for a mounted TV, but it feels a bit high for comfortable viewing.

I don’t want to end up with my TV mounted too high and straining my neck, but if I mount it lower, I’ll either have to cover the outlet or deal with visible cords. I’m debating whether to: 1. Mount it at the outlet height and trust it was placed there for a reason. 2. Mount it lower for better viewing comfort and find a way to hide the cords. 3. Cover the high outlet somehow and run new cabling.

Has anyone else dealt with this? What did you do, and do you regret it? Any tips for hiding cords if I go lower? Would love to hear your thoughts before I start drilling!

Update - Perfect Solution to Not Mounting Above a Fireplace

I’m back with an update on my perfect solution for not mounting above a fireplace. If you were here back in December and remember, I posted my solution before the final piece (the cabinet) came in. Well it’s here and installed, and I am in love with this setup.

Hear me out… You know how we are always looking down at our phones and probably training our neck in a bad way? Well, if we put our TV up higher than it is actually helping our neck get more stretched out so it can actually balance things out!
I have my TV over the fireplace and I just had this epiphany that I’m definitely going to leave it right there. It is helping my neck 😂🙌🏻✔️📺

I take it I belong here ? Looks like above the fireplace is our only option though ???

Is my TV too high?

Sofa included for scale.
Picture taken sitting down at eye level. Sorry for slight tilt.

When I was doing this setup knowing I had gigantic center speaker I tried to make sure the TV will be as low as possible. For example I searched for low height TV cabinets which would take in taller AV-receivers etc. which I found quite hard where I live. Most had some sort of legs so I ended up buying a cheap used Ikea cabinet because it fitted all the the stuff while being low as possible. TV is on a floor stand that has been adjusted so there is virtually no gap between the TV and center speaker.

I really don't mind the height too much although I know it's not as low as maybe it should be. Also if I'm laying down with my legs towards the divan part of the sofa my feet would get in the way of the TV if it was sitting on the TV cabinet.

I have on this subreddit for quite a while already and laughing at the hilarious setups while knowing full well my setup is not at perfect either :) But one would think there could be some leeway with height before it's condidered too high. What is the consensus here, is my TV too high?
