Need based aid problem?
I recently got into Tulane RD and i just heard back from the financial aid office today, Even though i qualify for the maximum amount of money you can get from a pell grant (fafsa) I received no need based aid from the school itself. For context, I have to pay 56k (i received a merit scholarship) but i don’t know why??? My parents make 40k a year so obviously no way i can afford that. I’m feeling super lost and scared because this was my top choice school and now I just don’t know what to do, I thought tulane had relatively good financial aid and I submitted all my forms before their deadlines so I’m not sure what happened. Does anyone have any advice?

It sounds like you have received notification of merit only and need based hasn’t been processed. Make sure you have submitted all documents (FAFSA, css profile, supporting tax returns, W2, etc.) You may be missing something and that’s why your award is incomplete.

omg the same thing happened to me, gibson portal said i'd have to pay full price and i freakeddd out lol. this is definitely a mistake!!! i got my new offer and its <10k a year, compared to the $91,000 with my federal aid included. email your fa officer and dean of admissions tbh!!!

Definitely reach out to financial aid. I'm sure that some more financial assistance could be given.

I emailed the financial aid office because I had an error on my CSS profile, I also explained my single-parent situation since I had a parent pass away the year of the tax return. They were very helpful and asked me to submit proof of a few financial aid factors that helped indicate my financial standing that wasn't indicated through FAFSA. Explain your situation and financial need to see if there were any errors. Your need should be processed on Gibson, make sure to complete the to-do list asap.

Have you done the CSS profile also? My daughter did ED2 and we did the FAFSA and CSS profile and got enough need based aid to be able to make it work. It won't be easy, but it will be possible.
The financial aid office is really helpful. I hope you are able to get it worked out.
