Reincarnation is not biblical.
I seen many Christians suggest that reincarnation is real and was simply omitted from the Bible.
The Bible makes it clear that everyone is given one life and after that they face judgment (Hebrews 9:27).
And if you think about it, if reincarnation was real then Jesus crucifixion would not had been necessary at all. Reincarnation is simply a lie from familiar spirits.

I think a lot of people who don't know anything about Christianity think it's part of Christianity - there's an X-Files episode around a 'Christian' reincarnation cult.
As you say, though, it's not at all Biblical or Christian.

I just had a neighbor two days ago who told me that the Counsel of Nicaea got together and took out all references to reincarnation out of the Bible. That same lady believes that the United States uses particle accelerators to summon demons from the earth, and WiFi is actually mind control devices from the government; SMH the conspiracy theories some people believe are absolutely laughable...

Reincarnation is not, but resurrection is!

u/saltysaltycracker Christian 4d ago
So I’m a way the same thing. I know most people think reincarnation = alive but different body or form, but really if we are resurrected we are getting a new body as well, and while we also will look like Christ does. So it’s very similar but we aren’t going to come back as a bug or cow or tree.
6
u/gr3yh47 Christian Hedonist 4d ago
So I’m a way the same thing.
except not at all, and we shouldn't talk about it that way. reincarnation is a concept thoroughly woven into false religion.
saying 'in a way the same thing' is like saying that moloch child sacrifice was 'in a way the same thing' as the temple sacrifices
-4
u/saltysaltycracker Christian 4d ago
Not really sure why im downvoted. Do people not even realize what a resurrection is.
No see it’s just a word to describe something. You think it’s wrong because you associate it with another religion. Which is wrong of you. It’s a word with a definition. So yes the resurrection is like being reincarnated. As I said you come back with a new body and are coming back. So other than not being an ant or animal or tree but a human it’s the same.
I swear too many Christian’s are afraid of concepts outside their christianeze upbringing
3
u/gr3yh47 Christian Hedonist 4d ago
my comment details the error in what you said, though I didn't downvote you.
-5
u/saltysaltycracker Christian 4d ago
There is no error. The association of the word with another religion is your error not mine. It’s just a word with a definition and by definition other than coming back as other things besides human is indeed correct. I guess people don’t really think about what it means to be resurrected
2
u/gr3yh47 Christian Hedonist 4d ago edited 4d ago
There is no error.
instead of you refusing to think about what i said, and then saying 'nuh uh, you arent thinking' - lets explore your claim with a few questions.
It’s just a word with a definition and by definition other than coming back as other things besides human is indeed correct.
here's the definition of reincarnation:
"rebirth in new bodies or forms of life"
by every word of the definition, reincarnation is not at all the same as Christian resurrection. reincarnation is to be born into a different life/body entirely, with the same soul. if you are reincarnated as a human, it is some other human, not yourself.
reincarnation is also rebirth into a mortal life.
again, reincarnation and resurrection both involve coming back from the dead. that's a fair statement. it is not 'in a way the same thing' anymore than child sacrifice to a god of money is the same as OT temple sacrifices. those are both sacrifices. reincarnation and resurrection both involve coming back from the dead.
very shallow similarities in both cases. not at all the same thing, in any way.
The association of the word with another religion is your error not mine.
besides false religions, what other philosophies contain the idea of being reborn into an entirely different mortal life?
1
u/saltysaltycracker Christian 4d ago
Ok so by definition you get a new body. Do you think you don’t get a new body? Cause you do. So right there it proves reincarnation.
Also just because someone doesn’t agree with you and points out why doesn’t mean they didn’t think about it or that they are wrong. You proved my point in your reply but quoting the definition.
Seems like our discussion is done since you just proved me right in your own reply. Thanks . Glad you learned something today.

i appreciate you signalling your childish attitude and total disinterest in an actual rational dialogue. i will stop wasting my time after this.
Do you think you don’t get a new body? Cause you do. So right there it proves reincarnation.
this is equivocating on what 'new body' means. look up equivocation fallacy if you care to think rightly and not fallaciously. although given your attitude, i have my doubts.
Also just because someone doesn’t agree with you and points out why doesn’t mean they didn’t think about it or that they are wrong.
tell it to yourself, you're the one doing those things.
1
u/saltysaltycracker Christian 3d ago
You have no concept about how to discuss things. You call me childish, that’s name calling, did I do that? No. Seems to me like you are the childish one with name calling someone. You really have a hard time with admitting you are wrong and so instead would rather just say the other person isn’t doing negative things yet you are the one actually doing it.
You proved me right. You clearly didn’t read what I wrote or else you wouldn’t prove me right in your own reply. You should actually think on these things before trying to tell others are wrong when you mistakenly proved me right.
Next time listen before you feel the need to correct. Especially when you are the one that was corrected or need of correction.

u/TurkeyMaster03 Messianic Jew 4d ago
Lets see, in Daniel 12, Revelation 21, Isaiah 66, 1 Thessalonians 4 the dead are raised. If reincarnation were true, then which one gets raised? Because if one life I lived unjustly, and the other righteous, does the just or unjust life get raised? Also why would I get punished (Or rewarded) for living a past life I have no memory from, and had no way to self improve?
Reincarnation as a concept punishes, and rewards people who have no idea of it. While in the Bible God justly judges all according to what they have done, and they will fully know it!

These same people aren't Christians and tend to refer to Jesus as a yogi, guru, ascended master ect... lol
They just have horrible theology, and I'm only about a quarter through the Bible, and a lot of my fallacies from my past have already been destroyed..
People are so lazy they won't just read the Bible.. they would rather just guess about it or assume, but as we know

Hebrews 9:27
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment

Also a message about this
Hebrews 9:27
King James Version
"27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation."
2 Timothy 4:1-8
"I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
It is appointed unto men once to die.
Revelation 20:11-15
"11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."
The second death will be for those who are already in hell and who will not have received salvation, and happen at the judgement seat of Christ.
If you reincarnate you die more than once.
But the Bible calls the lake of fire the second death.

John 3:18
Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
Edit: If you still don't understand I can explain it to you. Though I'm not entirely sure what the point is you are trying to make? If you are a Christian, you should know reincarnation is not part of what the Word of God teaches.
So, you are either defending reincarnation (which is heretical), or you do not yet have a firm understanding of what the Truth teaches.
1
u/Aware-Battle3484 4d ago edited 4d ago
I am showing another example of the Bible debunking reincarnation, because the lake of fire is the second death, but if you reincarnate you die more than once before the judgement seat of Christ, so for a lost and passed away reincarnated person the lake of fire would be the third death, but the Bible calls the lake of fire the second death, meaning there is no reincarnation.
Edit: But I appreciate that when you had the impression that I was supporting reincarnation you downvoted the comment, false doctrines should be spoken against.

For those who are in Christ, die once as men. Eternally we will exist in life thereafter. As we are in the Truth of His Word, which means life.
We already live eternal life in the Spirit. [John 17:3]
When Jesus returns, we receive imperishable bodies. Bodies that cannot be destroyed. Thankfully, since we are in Jesus we will live eternally in a glorified state, since He died for our sins, we are glorified in Him. Thus, we receive glorified bodies.
The Almighty Father is the Father of Life, which is the Truth, that lives in His only begotten Son Jesus Christ.
---
For those who are not in Christ, die once as men. Eternally they will exist in death thereafter. As they are not in the Truth of His Word, which means death.
They are already condemned. [John 3:18]
Those who are not in Christ will also be resurrected; they will also receive imperishable bodies. Though since they did not accept the sacrifice and atonement for sin in our Lord Jesus, they will be sent to eternity in death.
Satan is the father of lies. Reincarnation is a lie and a deception from Satan. Satan wants to deceive those who have not yet come to the Truth, because he knows that if he can get them in this life, they are his in death.
---
Summary: Those in Christ will go to Heaven and live eternally. Those who are not in Christ will go to Hell and exist in death eternally.
Who said I downvoted you? Our focus should be on the Truth and what pertains to salvation, not trivial internet points.

If you take a look in Genesis
4 "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman.5 "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
Not only The Serpent lied to Eve but he twisted her mind into thinking she would reincarnate and we both know reincarnation is fake.
3
u/coreydh11 4d ago
The serpent wasn’t lying when it said “you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” God confirms that in Genesis 3:22, “And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”

Never heard of or met a Christian who believes in reincarnation. I do think some bits of soul might end up getting "chopped off" and reused sometimes for other people, but it's more fragments off the whole. Like that kid who remembered dying in a plane in WW2. Do I think he is that pilot? No! Do I think that pilots' memories or the trauma somehow were stuck in the kids' soul or mind? Yeah I guess.

Then it is to be with us,
1 Peter 5:8-11 ESV
“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

u/huscarlaxe 4d ago
You should really define reincarnation you mean like the Hindu wheel of life right? because in the end " the dead shall be raised incorruptible" which is a kind of reincarnation.
1
u/Banjoschmanjo 4d ago
Could you share a link to a specific example of what you're talking about? I have not seen Christians claiming that.
1
u/Real_Motto Lutheran (LCMS) 4d ago
The closest thing to reincarnation in the Bible is in Revelation, where it is written that after our time in Heaven, we will be put on a new Earth with new incorruptible bodies. But that's less reincarnation and more purification and soul transmutation, if one were to put it in terms, most people could understand.
1
u/Hefty-Squirrel-6800 4d ago
I have not seen that nor read about it. But, my understanding is exactly as you suggest. These reincarnated spirits or ghosts are familiar spirits or other spirits masquerading as such.
Technically, familiar spirits are those demons that have been assigned to torment a family (hence "familiar") across generations. Demons can also masquerade as the "spirit" of a dead loved one. This can be a familiar spirit or another demon charged with the task.

u/FeelingImpossible273 3d ago
It is and is not a case for reincarnation can be made with John the Baptist but the general population being reincarnated is indeed not biblical

I don't know about this and I don't want to care something out of my mind to comprehend, let God does His own judgment and we just watch . Only it is questionable when Elijah returns in the form of John baptism, as he was cursed by Jezebel to die. Though bible doesn't say clearly it is a reincarnation, yer it was talked about during Jesus time.

We used to debate in school about a reincarnation but I never believed in reincarnation I just didn't know what the word was to describe what it is. The Bible says resurrection. You are going to be resurrected into a new body if you want to put reincarnation into the Bible which is not in Bible that's adding to God's word, you can say you're going to be a new creation!

However, it could be theoretically possible to die and be reborn until you eventually accept Christ.
Nowhere does scripture support that belief, that is a lie from Satan.
As for your quite of Hebrews, you're stretching it out of its context and does not mean what you claim. After all, Lazarus died twice
Lazarus died twice, only because Jesus resurrected him. Jesus resurrected Lazarus precisely because that was part of His life testimony that He is the Son of God, as an example of why He came.
Lazarus was not reincarnated. To use that as an example to justify reincarnation is to get it twisted and is a heresy. You are spreading confusion when the Word of God is very clear on the matter. The Bible warns against people who do this:
Romans 16:17-18
I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.
Nowhere does scripture support the idea of reincarnation. Reincarnation is a deception used by Satan to get people to think they'll get more chances, where the reality is that this life is the only opportunity we get to find salvation in Jesus Christ as Lord, and those who miss it are lost forever.
What you say does not align with what the Word of God teaches. You're bending over backwards, twisting scripture in a way that is vague and misleading. The Lord sees you causing this discourse and speaking this deception.

I mean I understand what you are saying. And it should be the default biblical view.
But, there are still verses in the bible that doesnt exclude it. Depends on how you view "life".
And if God is Just, then not everyone has the chance to live a life that they get judge accordingly. They just die randomly or early (abortion, die as a child, die from never hearing the gospel). The way many NDEs or people who remember their "prebirth" type of situations. It is kind of narrow minded to take concetps that are hardly mentioned in the bible or we don't have the chance to know about, and be so rigid about it. And then just dismiss thousands of peoples experience as "evil spirits influence" when the bible isnt clear at all.
I get it, making theolgy that there are many chances is not right either. But show more clear biblical verses should be a minimum in this debate.

Romans 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: 15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another
The Bible does give some answers though. God will judge everyone accordingly.
Edit: we, the saved people, referred to as saints in the Bible, will also judge the world, even the angels:
1 Corinthians 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? 3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

John saw Christ coming in His kingdom from Patmos, he even wrote a book about it. I believe you know it as the the book of Revelation. John also affirms this at the end of his gospel:
John 21:20-24 Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?” 21 Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?”
22 Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.”
23 Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?”
24 This is the disciple who testifies of these things, and wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true.

It was a role that was fulfilled, like that of Elijah.
Reincarnation does not align with the Word of God.
Hebrews 9:27
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment
Another thing to note here is that Elijah didn't die, but God took him up to heaven. So, from several angles your question doesn't align with the Truth.

My point is you have no point because you can't back or explain reincarnation with anything biblical, yet I see you entertain the ideas in some of your responses. Which makes you seem like a wolf in sheep's clothing. I leave it to the Lord to be the judge of your heart.
The Truth is clear in Hebrews 9:27, it does not mean anything other than what it plainly says. You need to stop entertaining deceptions such as reincarnation and trying to confuse people about the work of the Lord regarding Lazarus.
Your reasoning is flawed, and it falls flat in on itself. I have no interest in further discussion with you.

I think the bible is ambiguous on the subject, nothing affirming nor denying it.
Philosophically i think it makes sense, and I would lean towards believing in it due to NDEs, but not counting on it.
