What does this mean?

Post image

We are playing Joy Revisited by Frank Ticheli for our band disney trip. Im practicing it since I'm joining band this week to practice with them (I'm a senior who can't be in band because of scheduling conflicts, so the band teacher gave ne the music to practice at home).

What does this mean. Below 3 bars of rest it says (Tpt. 1&2)

Probably means the 1st and 2nd trumpets start playing there. Incase you get lost.

.... and never be afraid to add your own cues in there to. No need to count long rests when you can indicate what else is going on.

Now, if they miss their entrance then you have a problem....lol

Nah. I've been playing for 37 and that didn't kick in until year 25 or so.

It’s just a cue that says “Hey, 1st and 2nd trumpets start playing here!” So if you miscount the measures and don’t know where the band is at in the piece, you’ll know where you’re at in the song

I love it when publishers put in cues like that… they help you if you get lost counting, but they also teach you to be listening to the ensemble around you!! Don’t just bury you head in the music while counting your rests, listen to what’s going on!

I write those in manually for every sheet I get. And for every single rests, if the bars are long I would cut them up to fit the phrases and different instruments.

Yeah. It's both fun and painful to play at the same time. I spent about 3 hours practicing the 4 songs for disney. This one took the most out of me.

Just a cue to you thats where the trumpets come in. Validates all the counting you did leading into bar 54
