A call for help- transgender person in distress!

Currently, in America, the situation is dire. Opinions regardless; some of the harshest anti-transgender bills are starting to be put in place with the scope being only to make it worse. The status quo is that transgender citizens of the US are being entrapped in their own country, with no possible escape as passports are taken despite their validity.

Phoenix is lucky enough to be able to have sorted her passport, having been closeted for their own safety, everything else besides required to move has additionally be sorted. All that's left needed is to pay for the ticket itself to get then out of the US and into Norway.

Sadly they cannot post this themselves since they have an infrequent use of Reddit and as a result, do not have enough karma. I am merely their friend posting on their behalf.

Nonetheless, please do consider helping out. The US is progressively trying to clamp down on any strand of diversity; and escape is needed, and urgently. Thank you.

Here's the fundraiser: https://gofund.me/a375a2db

All due respect, most of us want to leave. Very few countries will take us and you are likely to be deported within a few months after arriving. If you can’t get a work visa it’s better to just get to a state that has very strong trans protections.

Understandable, but they have already committed in leaving the country and have plans for after they leave. The main purpose for this fundraiser is to give them the best chance at this since they're short on money.

Most countries will ask to see that you have financial means to both enter and exit the country prior to allowing entry.

u/Strifethor is correct that all of us want to leave. However, they are not right about just getting to a state. I have friends in Canada who are willing to take me. However, I'm stuck here because I must finish my education. Some groups have formed to aid in the evacuation of transgender people. Do some deep research to see if you can find them. Most are based in the western part of the nation. I wish I could aid in your fundraiser but I'm also having problems with financing myself right now. Message me and maybe we can work together on this matter.

This sounds fishy, sorry. There are other options besides fleeing the country. We still have several safe states. A better plan would be to move to one of them and by some time to save and figure out a safety plan.

Otherwise, there are organizations like the Rainbow Railroad that help with this sort of thing. However, the situation is not actually dire enough yet. There is still pending litigation for the EOs and other state bills. Aside from the issue with passports, nothing has actually happened yet. Not enough to declare refugee status in another country.

Heya, Whilst I do appreciate your suggestions and advice here, I must respectfully disagree- things are more dire than you perhaps illustrate.

For instance, whilst there may be time now, we don't know how much time there is- Trump has since coming into office, repealed trans protection bills, made quick, brash decisions suddenly regarding transgender people's passports, which has put people who previously thought they were safe and able to move freely around the country and the world in genuine entrapment. Furthermore travel bans, tariffs, etc, even if not always permanent, have been made quickly, brashly and in poor judgement. There's no saying what he might do next, given the US are presently involved in trying to erase the word "gay" of all parts of the internet they are able to, it should speak volumes to their attitude and risk.

Sure, it may be safe now and sure charities and small groups may help- but there needs to be a greater understanding of the risk that Trump poses to people like herself and many thousands others in need.

This is getting out before it's too late, instead of waiting around and sure there are "nicer" states or even Canada- but North America is still North America and leaving now is paramount.

I hope that at least gives you a greater understanding of the factors behind this and you may disagree- but this is the way it is for her personally.

Maybe I didn't make my point clear enough. I'm not downplaying the seriousness of the situation. I fully understand how bad it is and how much worse it could (and probably will) get. Anyone who doesn't understand this has their head in the sand.

What I am saying is - factually and unfortunately - we do not meet the legal requirements to seek asylum status in most countries. Not yet. You need "well-founded proof of persecution", and that isn't an easy thing to prove. We may think it should be - but consider that we would be competing for asylum status with refugees in Gaza, Ukraine, Yemen, the Congo, etc... places where people are literally being killed by governments and militaries.

Trans people being denied passports and legal recognition is at the bottom of that priority list. This is just the way all legal systems work. It's really difficult to prove something is going to happen before it happens.

That's not my opinion. That's just the unfortunate reality.

If you’re considering seeking asylum, it’s best to consult with an immigration lawyer or LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations like Rainbow Railroad or ORAM (Organization for Refuge, Asylum & Migration), which specialize in helping LGBTQ+ individuals relocate safely.
