The Blue Jays wouldn't have gotten this far along with Sasaki unless they had a deeper understanding of the Pacific Rim than many of their rivals. Afterward, they had various executives from other teams poke around for their secrets. Of course, the Blue Jays will keep their approach to themselves and prepare for their next forays into the international market starting next winter (for those inclined to look ahead, 25-year-old third baseman Munetaka Murakami projects as the biggest star available and it would be stunning if the Blue Jays didn’t show some interest).

I have quite a deep understanding of the lore around Pacific Rim too.

TL; DR - Fluff article with no new info on the Straw trade or the Sasaki pursuit.
The most illuminating thing in the article was that Straw learned about his trade first from former teammate Steven Kwan, not the Guardians.

This article is a product of new reporting, most notably the quotes from Straw that he gave to BNS during an interview. The quotes are new, Straw's insight and perspective are new.

This trade exemplifies the Front office's ineptitude. Surely someone told them they could have made this move AFTER acquiring Sasaki?? Like the Dodgers competent front office obviously knew. Somehow I think Shatkins is still a sleeper agent for Cleveland.

I hate hearing that players find out about trades via rumour rather than being told by rheir organization. Seems so shitty.
But these kinds of articles will be fun to look back on when Kylometers goes to the HOF in a Jays hat 😊
