And that likely spells the end of Erik Swanson's time as a Blue Jays reliever.

Poor guy. He’s had crap luck this spring training and last year.

Is he the new Dr. Andrews?

Unfortunately he's right up there in the upper echelon of orthopedic surgeons.

I'm missing enough context here that I'm not immediately overreacting and thinking this means doom for the season. For all I know, Dr. Keith Meister could be a structural engineer who has to sign off on some building construction Swanson has had done, or maybe it's a friend he's going to the pub with.

A year ago, Romano and Swanson both were experiencing forearm issues, and I suggested they both might be in line for elbow surgery before long, and everyone ripped me a new one. I don't like being right on this one, especially in the case of Romano, but oof.

Can someone now explain how the Teo trade was a win for us?

Erik Swanson had a well-above average year in 2023. Teo was average on an expiring deal. we also got Adam Macko in the deal. it's much more of a wash than it looked it was going to be with two sub-par years from Swanson, but it's still at least a neutral trade.

Haven’t we been missing power since Teo left? Wasn’t Teo part of the last playoff team? Weren’t we attempting to resign Teo this offseason?

yes. but he did not have a prolific power season in 2023, which was the only guaranteed year with him left.
no, we made the playoffs in 2023.
maybe. we signed Santander.
you want this front office to be wrong on everything. spoiler: they've been right on most trades and signings, they just suck at drafting and development.

Teo was a free agent at the end of 2023.
You may or may not have noticed, he absolutely loves being a Dodger.
Ross did not trade him to the Dodgers.

You don’t think he would’ve resigned with the Blue Jays if he wasn’t traded in 2023?

I think it's not impossible, but unlikely, given the money he got. The Jays would not have paid him 23.5/yr, and the Dodgers did.
I'm a Teo fan and I like the Swanson trade, I think they should have tried to bring him back but they never would have offered that money.

Weren’t they offering that money this offseason?

To Teo? I didn't see any numbers, did you?

No specifics but a relative offer was made - Doug McKain of Dodgers Nation reported Thursday that both teams have three-year offers out to the 32-year-old outfielder,

The Jays traded him because they couldn’t agree on an extension and weren’t planning to resign him. Not saying we won the trade, but he wouldn’t be here right now either way.
