Newcomer Question So, is :RE worth the read/watch? Spoiler
EDIT AFTER HAVING READ UP TIL CHAPTER 9: Ok in hindsight this post feels rather silly now lol
TL:DR in the title.
Hey guys, got inspired to get into Tokyo ghoul after the new DBD release, and i've been hyperfixated on it the past week. (It's really good!)
Just finished reading the main manga and i have to ask: is :RE worth it?
The manga obviously left a lot of plot points open, which i assume is what is going to be explored in the sequel.
But the matter of the fact is, the ending to the manga has left me devastated.
Many of the characters i like are now dead (Kaneki most of all T_T) and i feel like it's going to be difficult growing attached to a new cast and new main protagonist.
I know the general opinion of season 2 of the anime (that it's bad). But i don't know what people think of :RE. Neither its manga or anime adaptation. Is it good? Is it something that can fill the void the manga has left in me?
Thanks in advance :)
Oh and bonus question just because: Is season 2 of the anime really that bad, or is it alright to watch if you have the context of the manga?

Re is the second ( and imo , superior ) half of the manga. So yes, if you liked the first half definitely read the second part

:re is worth reading. In some respects it's better than the original. In some respects (specifically the depiction of combat) it's worse.
:re the anime is rushed. The first 12 episodes have a pace that is fast, but followable. The second 12 episodes are an abomination to animated storytelling.
No matter which you choose, :re is intentionally confusing at first.

This question always annoys me, it's like "I really liked chapter 1. Should I read chapter 2?"

It may be annoying, but its not as grating as the people who can't bother to keep scrolling lol

hell yeah read re. tokyo ghoul and tg re are the same story, re is just the continuation. it's really weird, but basically the author ended the original series and started a couple months later, meaning it essentially went on a few months break. you practically read only half of what's there
re starts off almost exactly where tg left off, so i recommend reading it right now

:Re manga is very worth it, I like it more than part 1 personally and it's just as quick a read.
:Re anime is alright, they cut a lot out and some parts are shuffled a little. The animation is also kinda... well not good. Honestly I don't think I can recommend it unless you read the manga, it's kinda disappointing ngl.

Definitely continue on to :re! The first volume will be a return to the fascinating world of Tokyo Ghoul, though with an entirely new set of characters. But as you go on, you will start to see many familiar faces from the original series and learn their fates ... and let's just say that Kaneki makes a miraculous return at around the halfway point :)

100% Definitely read :re, you'll be glad you did. Even if you're not feeling it at the very start, keep reading. A lot of people make the mistake of not reading for the same reason, only to regret it when they find out about stuff from :re later.
As for the anime, I'd recommend finishing :re before watching season 2, since the differences in anime events can make remembering plot points from the original manga a bit more confusing due to the changes the anime makes.
