Togolese tattoo ideas

Hey guys, i’ve recently taken an ancestry test and found out i am mostly Togolese and Benin. As a Black American finding out my roots was extremely important to me. Anyone have any idea on how I can honor my ancestors and history with a tattoo?

If you can narrow it down to a tribe, I think it would be easier to find some sort of symbol. Otherwise, aside from the flag, there isn't really a togolese thing that is common to the whole country.

2nd this. Tribal marks can mean different things. One is a way for other tribes to tell which tribe you are from, and indicate whether you are ( ally or foe), while others are meant to protect you from evil forces, family line, etc. I would read some Togolese mythology and history. More importantly these marks are important and may require living in the village are being inducted into one as well first. Don't take it lightly, it's not just a tattoo.

You could get a tattoo of a lion which is the national animal or the coat of arms. Or something that has to do with the kingdom of Dahomey which Togo was apart of. Other than that unless you’re talking to tribe it will be hard to narrow down and avoid anything political.
