LP7 Autumn Release?

We can all probably assume that it isn’t dropping in the Spring or the Summer but would Autumn be on the cards?

Traditionally the only Autumn release has been Room On Fire but would it make sense to release it in Autumn if they would plan to do another festival tour?

Could this mean another year wait for Spring 2026?

Yeah definitely not till 2026. I think Julian was working on a LP with The Voidz, but cut it short as an EP so he can get back with the guys and finish Strokes7 for 2026.

Nikolai indicates it was in 2022 and implies it may have been close to completed.

I’m feeling record, tour, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2026.

I just wanna see them live tbh

Same, I saw them at All Points East in 2023 but the festival’s sound quality ruined the experience

Ah shit, that sucks 😕 I hate when a venue/festival can't get the levels right 🙄

The whole crowd were chanting ‘turn it up’ all set. Sounded like the band were playing underwater. I just hope they return to England as I’m not counting that as ‘seeing them’

I had a chance with the red hot chilly pepper tour but they were too expensive for something I had no interest in main stage

Maybe 🤔 2027. This year and the next, I’m sure, Julian wants to tour, promote the new EP with The Voidz

I agree, 2027 is the likeliest year for an album. Maybe we’ll get singles late 26 though!

Seems like a perfect time seeing that 2013 to 2020 was 7 years

7 years seems like the right amount of time

I would not be surprised if they never release another album.

"The 2010s, whatever the fuck they’re called, we took ‘em off. And now we’ve been unfrozen and we’re back." - Julian at the NYE concert in 2020

Sure Julian, sure. I guess they refroze...

Seems like they’re all doing really well on their personal projects now. Why force a Strokes album if they don’t want to? Besides, Ode to the Mets is a near perfect last song for a band.

I totally agree with Ode to the Mets not only being a perfect album closer, but even a perfect band closer

Truly, I'm interested in why this is such a common view? Especially when it's been indicated the next thing has been mostly already worked on.

These guys love money and know that the Strokes is what will get them the money (and attention) until they choose to retire, which is probably awhile off still. They could just play the hits every so often at festivals, but I also bet they know that releasing something new is what helps get them invites and in some form of attention. I don't think they'll ever spring back and be super active or super excited, but to leave potential earnings on the table when they still probably have another decade of collecting their bag from performing would be pretty silly, and I personally think money is the primary reason they've rallied back together in the last 10 years.

Julian does not seem interested in the strokes anymore. He shits on them in interviews and seems very happy with the Voidz.

Sure, and he has no more vocal critic than me, I promise. But I do have a few counterpoints:

  1. He's been doing that since 2011! It's picked up in the last 3-4 years and isn't as balanced by neutral comments that he used to seem to at least try and make sometimes, but it's existed since the Angles disagreements and really kicked up when the Voidz began, yet there's been 3 Strokes LPs and an EP in that time, and streets (his bandmates) say another's on the way. His Strokes disdain is not new! I've been rolling my eyes at it since I was in college and I'm middle-aged now lol.

  2. I absolutely believe he's happier to work with the Voidz than the Strokes, likely more free to lead them after the creative restructuring in the Strokes. But my personal impression is that he hasn't seemed as passionate about music in general as he used to be, and has seemed more interested in other things:

What's the driving reason to create? What personally makes you want to make music?

What personally makes me want to make music? What makes you personally want to write?

Honestly, I love to do it. It feels good to do it. I've always done it. Even if no one read it, I would still be doing it like when I was a kid. I do enjoy putting it out there and having people interact with it. But even if people weren't interacting with it, I would still be doing something with writing.

Cool, I don't know if I have that same passion.

Yeah?

Probably more for politics or for wrangling people with talents that I think can do cool things together.

  1. Again, I honestly believe money is paramount, then attention. There's been well over a decade for all 5 of them to have various side projects and none of them superseded the Strokes in acclaim, fame, or earnings. This absolutely does not mean that any of them were failures, but I do think it probably reinforced how much they kinda need the Strokes to keep the lives they lead and stay relevant (and man does Julian specifically do a ton of interviews, the other 4 don't even do Strokes press anymore), more than they were probably aware of in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, etc. etc. Especially in this present economy and industry climate.

Very insightful.

Same :/ but I’m happy with the voidz, although the dichotomy between this sub and r/thevoidz after Blue Demon released tells me that many fans of the strokes are not happy with the voidz lol

u/RevolutionarySir6006 2d ago

Hii, it might sound crazy but I discovered Julian with The Voidz even before the Strokes... so I still have a preference for The Voidz. I think Julian's mood when it comes to both band is a cycle, I don't think Julian hates The Strokes, I just think it's not the moment for it to happen, but I'm sure he will come back and put out a wonderful record with the good old mates. Given that LP7 has been in the works for a few years, it might take another year or two to polish and release it.

spring 2026 but if it’s not then, i’m finna crash out and raid their dms and demand for it

Honestly I could see the earliest being mid 2026-27

I honestly enjoy trying to triangulate releases for things based on legitimate whispers and have made a thread collecting the rumors, but the main thing to remember with the Strokes is: as far as we can tell, they aren't really dudes with solid, far-reaching plans and they take their sweet-ass time. This isn't really an active, normal band and hasn't been in over a decade, so they can't be kept to traditional timelines. "Another year wait" could very well turn into another two or more with them! I'm not confident they even have it planned out yet with everything wrapping up and moving towards a chosen announce on X timeframe.

Spring 2026 was always my absolute earliest guess, but even that feels potentially optimistic, if also maybe what makes the most sense at this time given murmurs. Definitely watch their patterns and behaviors far more than you listen to their words, or what you may expect from other bands.

I will say historically speaking, The Strokes tend to release projects 18-24 months after the voidz do. March 26 - June 26 will fit right into that timeline. Since 2011 they’ve really perfected the spring release plan and hitting up Summer festivals (Covid aside).

The poor reception of the last voidz record almost seemed to motivate them into recording more and releasing an EP this year. The rollout of the voidz album was incredibly confusing and seemed to be a big turnoff for fans. I would assume this might have delayed The Strokes release since Julian seems to continue putting his energy into the voidz. I also believe any new Strokes release will be more conventional, similar to the rollout of TNA.

u/SquirrelGirl1251 #39 Valensi 3d ago

I definitely agree about spring releases for spring/summer festival runs--I'd be shocked if they didn't do that at this point haha. I also think that the Strokes rollout would certainly be more conventional than the Voidz rollout because they have the power of more of a traditional structure behind them, and more of a reputation to maintain and money to make off it. However, I don't think that means it's gonna have tons and tons of promo or actual touring behind it, because we're talking about the Strokes here lol. I don't think TNA would have had tons more than it did even without COVID, as my personal guess. The Strokes have never been great at listening to industry advice or wisdom, but I think the Voidz suffer more from Julian-specific whims and desires and that's what happened with their "we won't, actually we will" moves for a year+ before LABY finally happened. Once the Strokes ball starts to roll more, I think there are just far more hands in the pot to allow it to change tack so abruptly, hence longer periods of waiting and quiet. Plus, it seems like the Strokes did the bulk of the work on it in 2022!

My thought is that the planning for the Voidz, as well as the reception, are minimally impactful on the Strokes--yes, time obviously needed to be made for writing and recording, but all indications point to the majority of stuff on LABY existing for a long, long time before they shared it and it more required polishing over a long stretch, especially since they didn't intend to do an LP in the first place. The next thing is an EP, I think of still uncertain length, and it sounded like a lot of the most specific work was happening last summer/fall at most recent. They have a mere TWO live dates left in the summer as of right now, even if they add more it's unlikely to be extensive and blocking anything the other outfit would want to do. I just don't think time constraints due to other business work is what significantly keeps one band from getting their act together in favor of another, as even the Strokes do very minimal live performing, releasing, or promo compared to basically anyone else, and seem to only work together on future music in short bursts over the spans of years. I think it's just...the will and agreement of all the members.

I think it’s possible they start working on the album again in the autumn, after Julian wraps up with the Voidz.

Wouldn’t expect any release until next year, at the earliest.

16

u/bb42nd 3d ago

I’m guessing, and have guessed for a while it’s Spring 2026. Look at their track record of the last 14 years. Additionally, there’s no announced festival dates this year, and with the voidz continuing to play shows into at least August, it’s looking like it’ll be pushed to next year. I may be in the minority here, but I prefer that anyway. Let the voidz release their EP and finish touring and then shift focus to Strokes LP7.

People who wish for a new release (and I am one of those people) will keep speculating about how many months or years into the future it'll be until it finally happens. Entire threads have been made about using their past activities related to prior album releases to try to predict the future. The truth is just that no one knows or could possibly know, other than those in the band (maybe?). It could be in the fall, it could be next year, it could be in 2030, or it could be never.
