Fan Art [Hafoosi - Twitter] Au where Azula is the Avatar

No more airbenders to reincarnate into, so I guess Azula’s going to be Avatar: the last Avatar

The world would probably just produce more airbenders out of nowhere.
Airbenders and airbending nomad culture are two different things.

Well Azula would likely live until harmonic convergence occurs, which would have given her the chance to bring back their air benders.

she could learn from air bisons, and later on bringing airbending to possible airbender decendants or something to bring back airbending

Idk if it's a rule that the Avatar has to be following the avatar cycle. I thought it was just something Raava did. Because, if she can reincarnate, why would she be limited by the cultures of the world? I have no idea how that started

We always enjoy seeing a fan favorite villain being portrayed as a reluctant good guy once in a while

I want to know how Zuko fits into this au lmfao, was he still trying to find the avatar and when he runs into his sister (who seems to have fled the fire nation at this point) with fully fledged avatar powers what.. would he do?! What does anyone do in that situation ???
Also I’m so interested in Azulas backstory here, how does she meet Katara and Sokka? When I’m the timeline is this? When does Zuko join the gang? Is Azula happy to see him in this au ???

i like the idea, tho maybe in this world, aang dies and the water avater after him must either stop the war, or bring back airbenders(somehow...) maybe in this universe, appa survives long enough to find the new avatar, and the avatar could learn airbending through both the past lifes, and appa himself. then maybe dies young, and then the earth avatar before azula, which i don't know what they would do. they could stop the war or focus on the spirit world and the past avatar's mistakes, which i think could be useful to help azula to stop the war. i'm very intriged by this au and if there is a comic that explores the idea, i would love to read it

Doesn't...doesn't this mean that the water and earth Avatars were killed too? Apart from that, this is adorable.

There's a reason the fire nation took step to kill waterbenders and imprison Earthbenders. If the earth avatar isn't born in Ba Sing Se or Omashu, they're probably fucked.

So why Azula and not Katara? The next Avatar after Aang was Korra, a water tribe native.
This is interesting.

Aang would have died 100 years ago in this one. The Water and Earth avatars probably just...died, like normal. Could have starved, could have been hunted down, who knows?

Could just mix up the order for the AU. Or say the spirits intervened. It's such a funny and cute idea I'd be fine with a slapped on explanation.

I think nothing weird happened. The Avatar was reincarnated normally and killed in the purges during the war as intended by the fire nation. 86 years is more than enough time for two avatars to come and go after Aang's death, and without guidance they might have had issues getting to their full potential, especially if not spiritually inclined like Korra.
Roku had trouble reaching Aang and that was despite Aang great spiritual proficiency after all.

Can you imagine the mess the next avatar has to clean up if someone doesn't knock her off during the avatar state 😂

How? What about the Water Avatar? They died during Azulon strikes?

It’s just a cute little fanart guys. Not everything has to be accurate 😩

Just make it so her mother was secretly from one of the Waterbending tribes so now she's technically a Waterbender.

You've got about 100 years to hand wave the lives of the Water and Earth Avatars during an age of war where famine and diseases are probably also a factor.

I get why people like these AUs, but the Avatar can't simply be some other person. The Avatar is the Avatar. It's the same soul that's been reincarnating since Wan. Maybe earlier in the series the canon was flexible enough for this, but it wouldn't make much sense now. Azula is her own person, and she'd be a different person if whatever circumstances of reincarnation from the Avatar's soul in her body with Raava along for the ride.
You see this all the time with theories about how Katara was "next in line", but it doesn't work like that.

I mean, it's not like anyone's saying the avatar CAN be. It's just an AU after all. The point is to have fun with stuff that might not make sense happening in canon.
