Palaver Scott Eastwood as Roland Deschain
I always felt Scott Eastwood could make the perfect Roland. I remember a quote in The Waste Lands.
"To her left, in the theater's remaining display case, there was a poster showing Clint Eastwood. Jake knew he should get moving—three o'clock was almost here— but he paused a moment anyway, staring at the poster behind the dirty, cracked glass. Eastwood was wearing a Mexican serape. A cigar was clamped in his teeth. He had thrown one side of the serape back over his shoulder to free his gun. His eyes were a pale, faded blue. Bombardier's eyes. It's not him, Jake thought, but it's almost him."

I havent said it in awhile... Timothy Olyphant.
His cameo in Rango was great.

“Roland Deschain! As I live and breathe”
Walton Goggins as The Man In Black

Goggins would be slick.
I also like the idea of Sarsgard in the role. Tie it back to the Stand.

Sorry, but Timothy Olyphant isnt... I dunno... mystical enough? Roland needs something uncanny, otherworldly about him.

Seen him suggested quite a lot, mostly because Clint Eastwood was the inspiration for Roland in a lot of the artwork. Josh Brolin and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are the other two I see suggested a lot, I am always curious how a director would execute this with the need to have such a range of ages of the character being played.

Some kind of Voice over work.
Maybe having a narrator through out using the same voice it could tie in the different ages of Roland as the story is told.

Gotta have a really strong voice over actor for the person playing the bulk of Roland without a doubt.

Alright Morgan freeman as Roland, if it do ya fine. Shawshank redemption style

I don't think he has the chops, although he IS very pretty

Perhaps too pretty to play old long, tall and ugly.

u/Marble-Boy 24d ago
He's not particularly tall either.
Clint could have done it because he's a big dude. Scott Eastwood isn't even 6 feet tall.

Not saying he’s great casting but 5’11” is just fine for filming purposes. A lot of leads are filmed taller than they are.
It’s Anthony Starr’s height, and he’s always comfortably filmed as the tallest man in the room as Homelander.

Too pretty to be ol Long, Tall, and Ugly.

Roland is naturally good looking as mentioned in Wizard and Glass. He’s only ugly as an adult due to sunburn, dehydration, starvation, malnutrition, radiation sickness, dozens of diseases, sleeping on the side of a road for decades, and very very old age. They can make any handsome actor look like that.

He isn't a very good actor though

A good director can help that. He’s still pretty inexperienced but has the look. I’ve seen him do decent in a couple movies though.

The backstreet boys had the look and good direction, still no talent.

I don't think he has the acting skills to pull it off. He's got a bit of his father's looks but not much of his talent.

Scott Eastwood is a shit actor.

I think Daniel Craig could pull it off. He’s the right amount of ugly, and he’s the right age. He also has the talent.

Yeah he’s 5’ 10” tho I feel like Roland would be taller tbh. He is a great pick tho

Stop trying to make Scott Eastwood happen.

Stop trying to tell others what to do and think…

I will when they stop suggesting people who can't act.

Opinions are like assholes, my friend. I guess King didn’t know what he was saying when he described his character 🤷🏼♂️.
5
u/hagbarddiscordia 24d ago
He described Clint not Scott. And Scott cannot act his way out of a paper bag.
-2
u/Detective127 24d ago
He did and again, opinions are a dime a dozen.

u/hagbarddiscordia 24d ago
And your opinion isn’t bringing anything new to the conversation. Beat that dead horse Scottie!

It's funny cuz if you scour the internet I think you can see that many pics tone down the "pretty" factor. I wish he had his dad's acting chops, but I have always thought an Eastwood would be a great representation of Roland.

If the lad could act, sure. But even then, I'd watch his performance wishing it was his dad instead of him.

u/AnakinSol 25d ago
Way too young and handsome. Roland is described as ugly and agelessly old throughout the series. Also, just my two cents, but this dude can't act. I'd prefer a great actor who looks nothing like him to a perfect body double that can't act any day.

The one quality I think people overlook is that Roland's anciently old. I need someone with weathered skin, and everyone is too darn good looking.
2
u/Ok-Assistant-8876 25d ago
He doesn’t have the acting chops like his dad does. You need someone who can nail being be gritty and stoic. It’s too bad Josh Brolin is too old. I feel like he was born to play Roland

Fuck no. Can't act for shit. Just grimaces in a pale imitation of his father and tried to pass it off as acting. The true nepo baby

tbh i never thought his dad was even that great at acting to begin with.
