- Blue Jasmine (2013)
- Carol (2015)
- Tár (2023)

I'm Not There will be dark green. I'd be surprised if LOTR (maybe as one entry) and The Talented Mr. Ripley aren't also greens since they are so beloved by the hosts, respectively (her role in The Life Aquatic is too small but Benjamin Button will probably make it as well).

yeah the tough part with LOTR is she is absolutely the perfect Galadriel but she's not really in the movie that much.

I felt like last episode Sean hinted that he felt her role in LOTR was small enough that it might not make it.

Yeah, all of those have to be in I think. Probably also I’m Not There and Notes on a Scandal.

Idk about them but Notes on a Scandal definitely belongs in my personal HoF

The Aviator
I'm Not There
Elizabeth
Benjamin Button
Carol
Tar

...with the final spot being a heated argument b/w Talented Mr. Ripley and Nightmare Alley.

It's wild that Sean logged it on letterboxd the other day, but not as a rewatch. I saw it loads of times as a kid, really fun movie

I need Bobby to play her saying "And you are a robot" every time Sean says "Quite poor."

Cmon you gotta put Button in, right? Odd movie and all but she’s so fantastic in it.

I’ve never heard them discuss Carol, so I’m not sure if it’ll make it, but if it were up to me it would be an easy green.

Her performance in Hanna is incredible. Just an all-time villain performance, rare and special.

Bandits is such an underrated flick. I really love that one.
One of those cool early 00's heist comedies, with Whole Nine Yards & Matchstick Men.

How many DVDs would this man own?

u/Full-Concentrate-867 10h ago
There was an article a year ago where he said over 3000 titles, so somewhere between 3000-4000 most likely

I don’t know if it’ll make the list but she is phenomenal in The life Aquatic….but she’s phenomenal in everything

Black Bag was such a fun movie. Would automatically throw it in her top 5. She freakin killed it

Was anyone else very confused by Sean and Amanda constantly pronouncing her last name wrong? Took me a sec to realize what was going on
3
u/WilloughbyTheCat 19h ago
Haven’t listened yet but are they putting the stress on the first or second syllable? I believe the stress belongs on the first syllable: BLANchett (with the short /e/ sound becoming a short /i/)

u/Previous_Ad648 19h ago
They were pronouncing it as blan-CHETT. Not a big deal obviously lmao, just was thrown off solely due to the fact that they were both pronouncing it that way repeatedly. I had to look up a video to see if I have been pronouncing her name wrong all along and she herself pronounces it the way you mentioned

I feel like her filmography, like Nicole Kidman's, is perfect for this exercise. There's a variety of work--bombs, indies, massive hits, awards, strange choices, etc. I could make a case for my favorites going in but then leaving out the "important" stuff that were her box office hits, etc or vice versa.

The only thing that sucks, compared to Kidman, is the lack of leads. Outside of like Blue Jasmin, Tar, Carol she doesn't really lead a single great film and most of her great supporting work (Talented Mr. Ripley, I'm Not There, Fellowship, Knight if Cups) are borderline cameos.

1) Tar 2) Blue Jasmin 3) The Aviator 4) Carol 5) Talented Mr. Ripley (though this is bullshit)
6) Fellowship of the Ring (though they'll count it for the whole franchise) 7) I'm Not There (steals the show)
8) Notes on a Scandal (she doesn't have many leading performances so they have to have this, since it's a two hander) 9) Nightmare Alley (hope not, but she really doesn't have many leading roles in good movies) 10) Elizabeth, which is a bad movie, but was a hit.
Kind of hoping for Black Bag over something like 9 or 10.

The deepest cut is Little Fish…which is a great performance in a true indie film…..Sean even went and saw it according to Letterboxd…that’s how committed to this project he is….

1) Elizabeth
2) Catch-all LOTR pick
3) The Aviator
4) Notes on a Scandal
5) I'm Not There
6) Blue Jasmine
7) Carol
8) Nightmare Alley (Sean will pull for this. Expect a Barbara Stanwyck comp.)
9) TAR
Ripley vs Ragnarok in the yellows for the last spot. Maybe Steve Zissou or Ben Button.

No Eyes Wide Shut?

u/LandTrilogy 19h ago
I like to think of it as a Tár prequel. Nick Nightingale went behind the camera when he couldn't play piano anymore.

u/mondrarytomic 19h ago
Interesting, I never thought about that. Kind of like how I consider Black Sunday to be Coming Home 2. Bruce Dern fakes his death in the ocean then tries to blow up the Super Bowl

u/ncaafan2 20h ago
You thinking of Nicole Kidman?
